Our Transport Plan to Keep You and Glasgow Moving
What is the Games Route Network (GRN)? The Games Route Network is a crucial part of any major multisport event. It ensures athletes and officials are able to get to venues within a reasonable and, more importantly, reliable time and it minimises conflict between Games transport and other city travel. It doesn t mean swathes of road closures, or mile upon mile of Games Lanes. The GRN is to help Keep Glasgow Moving. The impact of the GRN will be proportionate, temporary and only in operation when required.
What is the Games Route Network (GRN)? A 4.5 million investment to Keep Glasgow Moving Covers around 30km, out and back Just 13.5% will make use of dedicated lanes for Games travel When will it be in place? Work is underway and will continue into June Will be fully operational from 21 July
Core Route GRN
GRN Measures Games Lanes GAMES ROUTE NETWORK Location of Games Lanes
What are Local Area Traffic Management and Parking Plans? (LATM&P) Traffic management to protect the residents and businesses around competition venues (like on event days around the football stadiums) Not like London 2012 measures. Less access control. Key objectives: Protect residents and businesses from informal spectator parking Ensure Games related traffic can access the venues

Making it an Active Travel/PT Games 700 cycle parking spaces will be provided across venues Cycle Hire in place for Games Time Additional capacity on core Glasgow rail routes that serve venues Additional capacity on the wider rail network Free public transport for ticket holders Park & Ride for spectators 8 Designated Sites. Pre Book Shuttle buses to venues for spectators
Further Information Guide to delivering to venues V2 released Further details of roads to be closed for road races Out Now Maps of road and public transport hotspots June 16th Community events in June at Glasgow venues All information on website and in workshops
Helping everyone get ready We have developed tools specifically for spectators - providing information, advice and opportunity to plan their journey with tailored information We are developing a cross-media marketing campaign that will target those living, working and playing in Glasgow ensuring they too understand that things will be different And of course you, the business community.
Glasgow and the surrounding area will operate differently in transport terms - It will be busier than usual This is an excellent trading opportunity for some, a logistical challenge for others. We are here to help you get Games ready but we can only help you help yourself. To keep your business running smoothly and make the most of the opportunities that the Games present, it will be necessary to understand how your operations may be affected and Plan Ahead.
We are asking businesses to plan using the 4 Rs and to use all the information we have available. Retime, Reroute, Re-mode, Reduce Retime - Reroute - Revise mode - Reduce - Starting earlier / later, deliveries outside of operational hours of LATM&P/GRN, before competition starts, on less busy days Avoid driving around venues and along GRN at competition times, ask staff to use a different station if yours is likely to be busy Could you walk or cycle for all or part of your journey? Could you ask customers to pre order non perishables, could you reduce unnecessary business travel?
27
28
29
30
Talk to your customers everyone is in the same position Talk to your staff Understand how you will be affected and when Identify your priority issues Nominate an individual to lead the planning process Communicate the need to plan to the whole organisation Do you have core staff you can prioritise support for? Do you have options to increase frequency/load before Games measures kick in? Communicate to all staff that travel during the Games will be affected Understand where staff are travelling from, could you map their home postcodes to see who can walk or cycle? 31
Next Steps Ask staff to create an alternative travel plan avoiding busy routes and consider flexible working Consider what maintenance is planned to be carry out during the Games period and look at bringing forward Contact your suppliers and customers to ask what you can do to ensure you can still conduct your business during the Games Write it all down in your Action Plan and share this internally Test your Action Plan and adapt as necessary 32
Conclusions To keep Glasgow moving and businesses doing business will require a concerted effort from everyone. We are here to help businesses get ready for the Games. Our support consists of : Transport maps, LATMP maps, GRN route, road routes and measures Input to your communications materials, attendance at events etc. Updated information on Information via social media follow enquiries: traveladvice.business@glasgow2014.com 33
