1 Community & Business Frequently Asked Questions* Waverly, Iowa *Answers are all subject to change. What is the Gentlemen of the Road (GOTR) Stopover Event? A GOTR Stopover is a celebration of a real place, with real people. It s a 2-day music festival produced by Mumford and Sons, an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-award winning British rock band from London, England. GOTR expects to bring in approximately 20,000 visitors and guests, half of which will camp in Waverly. The festival is a bridge between the culture of a music festival and the culture of a small community. GOTR Stopovers have taken place in tiny rural towns (Dungog, Autrailia), small cities (Portland, Maine), places rich with history (Bristol, Virginia) or ancient tradition (Lewes, UK), as well as small town gems just waiting to be discovered, like Waverly, Iowa. Mumford and Sons and the GOTR tour bring the music, the stage, the flags and the fans; everything else belongs to the Stopover community. Each Stopover community, like Waverly, has the opportunity to imprint its own experience into the event, sharing with guests the experiences of the community. What does this event mean for Waverly? GOTR will bring the festival, and the rest is up to us, the residents and businesses of Waverly. We get to do what we do best showcase our civic pride and engagement with the energy and enthusiasm that belongs to Waverly. Undoubtedly, the event will have a multimillion dollar economic impact on Waverly and the Cedar Valley. It s also a once-in-alifetime opportunity to put Waverly on the map internationally, as our community will host thousands of people from all over the world. The spirit of the project is to create a music festival that celebrates local people, food and culture, where everyone pitches in and everybody gets something back. What is the event schedule? The music festival will feature more than 10 bands on the main stage over the course of the two-day festival and. The main stage entertainment will feature Mumford and Sons along with internationally known acts such as My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips, Jenny Lewis, Dawes, The Maccabees and The Very Best, and others. Because Stopover events are not just music festivals, but celebrations of communities, events with smaller stages and local bands will also take place in Waverly s Main Street District. The festival is organizing late night and midday downtown concerts the evening of Thursday,

2 June 18 through. Check back for more information regarding bands and performances. O The main stage will be located on the Wartburg NW athletic fields and the downtown stage will be located in the heart of Waverly s downtown district, on Bremer Avenue. O Official GOTR campgrounds will be located just north of the main stage, within walking distance of the festival. O Downtown events will be on Bremer Avenue east of the river between 1 st Street and 4 th Street. O Check back for traffic and event maps closer to the event. Where will parking be located? O Parking will be located on event grounds north of the college and handled by event staff for both campers and day use attendees. Parking at official GOTR lots is included with the price of tickets, and signage will direct visitors through town. To help alleviate traffic and congestion, guests wanting to experience downtown entertainment will be encouraged to park in the official event parking and walk downtown. How will the festival affect traffic and street closures? O There will be designated routes in and out of town for festival attendees using the 218 interchanges at Highway 3 and near the airport. O Downtown traffic will be detoured around three blocks of East Bremer Ave. The detour route will be from 1st Street SE and E Bremer Ave, south to 1st Ave SE, then

3 O O east to 4th Street SE, then north to E Bremer Ave. This detour will be in effect from Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. to Noon on Sunday, June 21. To assist with the overflow of festival vehicular and pedestrian traffic, 5 th Ave NW will be closed to thru traffic from 12 th St NW to 1 st St NW and 12 th Street NW from 7 th Ave NW to Wilson Ave (new The W parking lot) from Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. to Noon on Sunday, June 21. Please note that regular construction work will be happening around town and might impede/slow traffic as well. Check back for traffic and event maps closer to the event. What are the demographics of concert goers? The majority of concert goers will be savvy consumers who support local businesses. The average age is 33 years old, 63% male and 37% female with a $96,377 average household income. How can my business take advantage of this event? Merchants are strongly encouraged to get involved and participate in the festival. Merchants are allowed to have stands directly outside their business. There is no fee to have stands directly outside of your business, as long as you are in compliance with City ordinances. Local business may also choose to participate in the official festival grounds vending area. There is a fee associated with the official vending area. All vending will be handled by Madison House Presents, the festival production company. Please contact Ethan Schwartz at ethanschwartz74@gmail.com. Businesses are encouraged to decorate to welcome guests and may have access to the official festival logos. There are restrictions, however, to how the logos may be used. A business window decorating contest has also been established. Please note: You may use GOTR official logos for decorating and advertising the event, but you may not produce items for sale using the logos. Where is the Downtown venue? Because Stopover events are not just music festivals, but celebrations of communities, events with a smaller stage and local bands will take place in Waverly s Main Street District prior to and after Main Stage festivities. The Downtown venue will be on the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of East Bremer Avenue, with the stage right on East Bremer Avenue on the corner of Bremer and 3 rd Street, facing West. The Downtown venue will be ticketed and have four access points for concert-goers. Tickets are $5 per person per day for guests. The downtown venue will be fenced (see map for details) and ticketed during the following days and hours:

4 Downtown Ticketed Hours 5:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. Noon 1:30 a.m. 11 a.m. - 1:30 a.m. How will my customers gain access to my business during the event? If you are a Bremer Avenue business located within the downtown festival area, you and your employees and customers will have access to your business at all times through rear entrances, though please keep in mind there will be traffic congestion and parking challenges while the downtown festivities are taking place. The downtown activities will take place as follows: Downtown Entertainment 5:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. Noon 5:00 p.m. 11 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. 11 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. During the downtown entertainment times, all individuals wishing to access the downtown festival area will be charged a $5 admission fee (festival ticket holders will receive access as part of their ticket purchase). This means in order for a patron to enter your business through the front door during the scheduled entertainment times, they must pay $5. The local committee will work to get the word out to residents, but it may prove helpful to start posting signs about rear and front entrance access early to help inform your customers. The best times for customers to access your establishment without paying the $5 festival entrance fee on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, are: Any time prior to 5:00p.m. Any time prior to 11:00 a.m. Any time prior to 11:00 a.m.

5 What happens if a costumer enters through my rear entrance, then proceeds to exit my front entrance into the festival? As business owners, you will not be asked to enforce festival rules. We want you to focus your energies on your business and costumers. If security sees individuals in the festival area without wristbands, they will ask patrons to purchase admission at the entrances. What happens if a patron enters my business with alcohol? You may ask the patron to leave, or you may contact a security worker or a police officer for their assistance to move the individual back into the designated area. If alcohol was purchased in the event area, it should not enter any business. Likewise, if it was purchased in a business, it should not leave the premises. Beverages should be left or dumped upon entering or exiting an establishment. How will my employees gain access to my business during the event? The only commercial area that will have restricted access is the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of East Bremer Avenue, as the businesses in those blocks with entry on Bremer Avenue will become part of the downtown entertainment venue during downtown venue hours. The downtown entertainment venue is a ticketed, fenced in area featuring a stage for local and regional musical acts. How will my employees gain access to parking during the event? The only commercial area that will have restricted access is the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of East Bremer Avenue. That area will be closed to all vehicular traffic from the evening of Wednesday, June 17 to the afternoon of Sunday, June 21. Traffic will be rerouted one block South of Bremer Avenue (see downtown map for details). By planning ahead, business owners may avoid some problems, such as locations where employees are accustomed to parking being restricted. Downtown business owners and employees are encouraged to carpool. Limited parking will be available on a first come first serve basis. Law enforcement officers on location will work with particular owners who are faced with unforeseen situations. What should I do regarding scheduled deliveries during the event? If your business is in the downtown event area, the earlier deliveries can be scheduled the better, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 18, 19, & 20. Businesses, especially those in the downtown area, should work with all their regular suppliers to coordinate a workable time for deliveries. Peak traffic times for both vehicles and pedestrians to avoid are as follows: : 4:00pm 2 am 10:00am 2 am : 10:00am 2 am

6 Will there be any noise restrictions in place? The City of Waverly does not have a noise ordinance. Main stage entertainment will end around 11:00 pm and downtown entertainment will end at 1:30 am. Will there be additional security for the event? The event company, Madison House Presents, is working closely with City officials to coordinate public safety and address community needs during the event. A private security firm will bring in more than 100 workers, and additional officers will be hired, similar to RAGBRAI. The cost associated with this will be covered through ticket sales. What happens if it rains? The festival will go on rain or shine. What will happen if there is inclement weather? Madison House Presents is coordinating with local authorities on emergency management plans. A large scale plan for the festival addresses numerous scenarios. Will there be disruptions in cell phone service? Cell phone reception and data service may be limited due to high use during the event, as was the case with RAGBRAI. Similar crowd sizes to RAGBRAI are expected and it was reported that there was little to no disruption during RAGBRAI. However, it is best to be prepared for cellular interruptions should it be a challenge during the festival. Internet interruptions are not anticipated; however, if you choose to offer free WIFI, you may want to consider bumping up your bandwidth during the week. Who is in charge of this event and how will it be similar to RAGBRAI? A partnership has been formed between the City of Waverly, Waverly Chamber of Commerce, and Wartburg College to host the event. Unlike RAGBRAI, the event company Madison House Presents, will be organizing the majority of the details, activities, and logistics. Similarly to RAGBRAI, we will need many volunteers to ensure the success of this festival and showcase our beautiful town. How can I volunteer for the event? Gentlemen of the Road production team is looking for community volunteers to serve as Fan Staff in a variety of capacities.
