2 Overview Location detail One of KubeData s large mining clients tracked the cost of building a data center at a remote mine site project. This project was a brownfield build at a mine site that had been shut down for a number of years. The client chose to build their primary onsite data center inside an existing building. This project was being managed and built by a large, well known EPCM company. While the build was remote, it was near a small town, 150 km from an airport and accessible by road. Methodology All costs were tracked and accounted for, including costs incurred by the EPCM for materials and labor, IT specific infrastructure costs as well as the client s internal management labor to complete the data center. These costs are compared in this report with the costs to build the equivalent Bulldog Mobile Data Center. Project detail The data center build was a 3 rack configuration with redundant 3 ton high precision cooling units. A 60 Kw genset with Automatic Transfer Switch and Active Tracking Filter was installed. The cost comparison included racks, cable trays, security cameras, and physical access security. The decision was made not to install fire suppression in the new build, so it was omitted from the Bulldog Mobile Data Center. The costs of UPS, structured cabling, PDU s and any IT equipment was not included in the pricing comparison as they would have been the same in either installation.
