Residence Life and Student Husing ffers three different styles f residence hall living: Traditinal (Hkna, Santa Clara, Crnad and Alvarad), Suite style (Laguna and DeVargas) and Apartment style Student Resident Center/SRC and Rednd Village Apt/RVA. The three living styles feature many f the same amenities, but each differs in cncept. While all f ur halls are c-ed, all rms, suites and apartments are single-gender. That the first semester at a university is crucial t the success f freshmen, there are a variety f prgrams available t incming freshmen. Academic Cmmunities are classes that have been linked r paired tgether t prvide greater learning experiences. As a student, yu are required t take bth classes during the same term. These classes will be taught by instructrs wh wrk tgether t link their disciplines thematically by wrking n a cmmn prblem r themes; ideas, assignments, and activities are integrated. Living Learning Prgram Residence Life and Student Husing prmtes academic and individual success thrugh cllabratin with ther university departments. The Living Learning Prgram prvides residents with the pprtunity t: live with ther individuals with similar interests and/r academic pursuits cnnect t academic and extracurricular resurces thrugh university departments integrate their classrm life with their campus life and vice versa When selecting yur hall preferences n yur husing applicatin, yu shuld indicate the Living Learning Cmmunity f yur chice (there are 15 designated Living Learning Cmmunities) in the space prvided. Many f the Living Learning Cmmunities require their wn separate applicatins thrugh ther prgrams. FLCs are tw classes that are taught tgether arund a theme FLCs explre cnnectins between the tw areas and hw they intersect and cnnect One f the classes is a Seminar (a small class with a theme) The Seminar is linked with a curse that s part f UNM Cre These classes are taught using cperative and cllabrative learning methds that engage yu as an active, invlved learner, with a minimum f lecture The discussins, readings, prblems, papers and presentatins f the Seminar and the linked curse are integrated and unified Each class hlds up t 25 students

14 STUDENT LIFE Hw many student rganizatins are represented n campus? There are ver 400+ fficially recgnized clubs and rganizatins at UNM. These include hnrary, religius rganizatins, service rganizatins, special interest grups, intramural teams, and spirit grups. Des UNM have a Greek system? Yes, there are 7 natinally recgnized fraternities and 4 natinally recgnized srrities represented at UNM. The Multicultural Greek Cuncil (MGC) is the gverning bdy fr 12 fraternity and srrity chapters. Members f UNM s Greek system are very invlved in a wide variety f campus and cmmunity prjects and rganizatins. What is the varsity athletic prgram like? The UNM Lbs cmpete in 9 men s sprts and 10 wmen s sprts at the varsity level. Mdern, wellequipped facilities include the famus Pit basketball arena, three gymnasiums, three swimming pls (ne Olympic size), a weight rm, racquetball and tennis curts, and several playing fields fr sccer, baseball, ftball, track events, and ther sprts. In mst cases, students must cmplete tw semesters at UNM befre they can participate in the prgram. What types f recreatinal activities/facilities are available at UNM? The Recreatinal Services prgram prvides students with a wide range f services and facilities. Amng the Recreatinal Services prgrams are: Recreatinal Outdr Shp, Sprts Equipment Checkut, Get Away Prgram, Team Activities, Individual and Dual Activities, and Special Events. Als, recreatinal facilities include 3 gyms, tennis curts, 3 swimming pls, a wrestling-cmbative area, several dance areas, a weight rm, and numerus playing fields. What types f entertainment are available at UNM? Year-rund entertainment at UNM ranges frm rck cncerts t chamber music, jazz ensembles t theatrical perfrmances, ballet t reggae. Mvies, musicals, mdern dance and lectures als are presented. UNM s Ppejy Hall hsts such prductins as Wicked and War Hrse. All f these events make UNM an exciting and culturally enriching place.
