2 CSCE login CSCE login Getting started Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to log on type in your User Name type in your Password it is case-sensitive User Name Password 8 9 CSCE User Name = GUID GUID password User Name is constructed from two items: your Registration Number = Student ID 1st letter of your Surname/Family Name Put them together: RegistrationNumberSurnameLetter e.g w Initially, your Password is your date of birth in the format: YYMMDD (i.e. three 2-digit numbers run together) Say you were born 5 December 1994 Year = 94 Month = 12 Day = 05 add a leading zero Password = Password Self Service to change your password If your username (GUID) is w then your address is w@student.glasgow.ac.uk Details of how to access your /services/it /student using a laptop using a mobile phone using a client e.g. Outlook, MacMail using a web browser Most staff have addresses of the form: John.Bloggs@glasgow.ac.uk
3 File store - Disk drives Printing C: Hard drive of the PC do not use to store your files M: Network file store home drive (200Mb) permanent storage, accessible anywhere ( H: drive is simply an alias for M: drive ) K: Secondary network file store (300Mb) supplementary network storage Do not store files on the Windows desktop P: Local cluster teaching datasets read access only P:\SocSci\LBSS or P:\SocSci\Edu J: Shared file store PGR students only, content varies by individual All computers have USB ports (for flash memory drives) most also have DVD-RW drive Chargeable except PGRs Purchase credits online or from machines on level 2, University Library Click on MyPrinting shortcut icon on desktop to check you credits and print history Can print to PDF from computer (not chargeable) Can use MFD to copy (chargeable) or scan to Pull Print Managed Printing WARNING!!! Print your document(s) to the PULLPRINT queue Go to any Pull Printer Swipe your student card or type in your GUID and password Press "Pull Print", then "Print All" or select the desired document Can only use paper provided If a document contains any colour and is collected from a colour printer, it will be charged at colour prices. Pull Printers also allow copying and send to When you are finished with the computer, do not just walk away from Start button select Log off and wait to make sure it happens PGR students in offices Shut down your computer when you go out of your office for a while or leave for the day Remember to Log out when you have finished printing Computer lab etiquette Training courses College labs are Quiet work areas switch mobile phones off take conversations outside keep volume on headphones low: must not be able to be heard by anyone else No food or drink allowed Do not unplug equipment (even if it is not in use) Computers can not be reserved maximum 15 minutes absence once you have logged on IT Training IT baseline IT courses On-line materials Don t forget the Help menu in many software packages

Personal use is permitted only so long as it is demonstrably reasonable and judicious. x You may not use someone else's UserID. x You must not store or to make publicly accessible any data, text, image or programme which is unlawful. x Access to or publication of material of a pornographic, criminal or offensive nature is not permitted Use of IT Monitoring of use of IT x Installing, copying or interfering with software on University computers is prohibited. PGR students should seek approval before installing additional commercial software on their office computer You must comply with relevant copyright legislation, and terms & conditions of use. applies to audio, video and image downloads; not just text or software. the computing network is for academic use. x The unauthorised use of any form of peer-to-peer or internet telephony is prohibited. 32 The University may monitor communications but this is always in the context of what is permitted by relevant legislation and University policies. If there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that an individual is engaging in activities which are in breach of the Regulations the University may include direct monitoring of the use made by the user. If misuse is established, disciplinary action will be taken, referring the matter to the Police in the event of contravention of legislation.
