2 MetroHealth SSLVPN Installation Instructions Requirements: Computer running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 (32/64 bit); Internet Explorer (version 6 or above), or FireFox (version 3.0 or above); Pop-ups must be disabled in Internet Explorer except for SSLVPN as described below; Google Chrome software cannot be on the computer it must be uninstalled; No other toolbars can be installed in Internet Explorer add-on toolbars from Google, Yahoo etc have their own pop-up blockers that interfere with SSLVPN they need to be uninstalled; The Microsoft Live One software cannot be on the computer; Administrator rights on the PC/Laptop; Active Internet connection; Only 1 version of anti-virus software can be installed; An R number if you will be using Epic through the Application Portal (if you know you will be using Epic remotely, request an R number when you request Remote Access security); Remote Desktop security is needed if you want to access your MetroHealth PC remotely; Device ID of your MHS PC is needed to access it through Remote Desktop. Note: you must have the Device ID of a computer that no one else will be using when you want to connect to it remotely and you must leave it turned on and at the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen. What is the difference between Remote Access and Remote Desktop? Remote Access is the right to connect to the MetroHealth network from a non- MetroHealth location such as your home; Remote Desktop is a Microsoft Windows application that lets you connect to a second computer and work on it just as if you were sitting in front of it. Security for Remote Access and Remote Desktop are different, so if you need both, you need to request both. Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 are the only operating systems supported by MetroHealth personnel. Internet Explorer is the only browser supported by MetroHealth. Although Mac and Linux operating systems will work with the SSLPVN system, support by MetroHealth personnel is not available on these operating systems or the FireFox browser. 3 VPN Installation Follow the steps below to connect to the MetroHealth SSLVPN. These instructions are for Internet Explorer but are essentially the same with FireFox. Open Internet Explorer and browse to You will see the screen below: Tip add this address to your favorites for quick access! Next, configure the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer. Click on Tools Internet Options, then click on the Privacy tab. If you have the pop-up blocker turned on, click the Settings button and add the address to the list of sites for which pop-ups are allowed. After pop-ups are allowed, enter your MetroHealth Network username and password in the textboxes provided and press the Logon button. (This is the user name & password you use to log onto your PC at MHS.) After successful log in, you will see your SSLVPN Home page. To connect to the MetroHealth network, click on the MetroHealth VPN link in the Network Access section. Page 3 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

4 The first time you connect, several pieces of software (called Network Access components) will be downloaded and installed on your computer. During the installation you may see screens that ask you to confirm the installation. Click Download or OK or Run or Install as needed to complete the process. Wait for the download and installation to complete. During the process you will see the status change from Installing to Loading to Authenticating (this means you are identified as a known, approved user). NOTE: Users with Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 with User Account Control turned on will be prompted by UAC to allow the installation to proceed. Select the appropriate option to allow the process to continue. When your installation is complete, and you are authenticated & connected to the MetroHealth network, you will see the window below. Press the OK button and the Network Access window will automatically be minimized. Page 4 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

5 Do not close any of these screens or you will be disconnected from the SSLVPN! You can minimize them to your taskbar. OK, I m connected now what do I do? The screen you will be looking at looks just like the one where you clicked the MetroHealth VPN link except that you are now connected to the network. The next step is to connect to the network resource you want to use. There are 2 ways to connect to MetroHealth via VPN: 1. MHS Application Portal 2. Remote Desktop to your MHS PC Set up a connection to the Application Portal: Open another Internet Explorer session. In the address bar, type You should now be at the Application Portal login screen: What Applications are available in the Portal? Epic GroupWise full client MIV Keane etc Tip add this address to your favorites too! NOTE: To access Epic via the Application Portal, you need to have an R number. If you did not get an R number and need one, you need to submit another security request to get one BEFORE you do this installation. *************************************** Download and install the Web / Citrix Client. Note the red oval below. Click on the underlined link to download and install the software. Page 5 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

6 You will see several screens where you will be prompted to either RUN or SAVE - choose RUN. During the download, you will be prompted for your R number, which is needed for Epic access. The R number tells Epic that your home computer is authorized to connect to the software Enter the R # provided to you in your VPN approval and click OK. If you do not have an R number, check the box that it is not required and click OK. You will get a second dialog box to confirm that you will not be using Epic and do not need an R number. Once the main installation is finished, look for a yellow Internet Explorer message bar at the top of your window asking you to confirm that you want to run the Active X controls. You must approve running them. Close this Internet Explorer window. Now open another Internet Explorer window and go back to You should now be on the Portal log in screen & see the information on the screen below, with no prompts to download. Enter your network user name and password and click LOG IN. Page 6 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

7 If you only need to use the Epic, Keane or the Lawson application, you can click on the shortcut on this screen to go directly to that application. In the Epic folder, click on Hyperspace, in the Keane folder, click on the application you want to use, in the Financial Apps folder, click on the Lawson shortcut. If you want to work from a Clinical Desktop to use GroupWise or the MIV in addition to one of the other applications, click the link to MHSRemote. You will now see the VPN Clinical Desktop where you can access Epic, the MIV, GroupWise etc in addition to all the standard clinical applications. Page 7 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

8 Logging off the VPN Clinical Desktop/Application Portal When you are done using the Application Portal, you need to log off. Log out of any applications you have been using. If you have been using the VPN Clinical Desktop, Log off by choosing: Start Log off. A box will appear asking Are you sure you want to log off? Click the Log off button. This will bring you back to the Application Portal Home page below. Log off the Citrix Metaframe Home Page by clicking the Logout button above. Close this Internet Explorer window See below (page 9) for how to log off the SSLVPN connection. Connect to Remote Desktop: If you have the proper security, you can Remote Desktop to your MHS computer from home. This allows you to connect to your work computer so you can use all the applications installed on it and access all your stored files. To get set up for Remote Desktop, you must submit an Electronic Security Request. (MIV Departments IS Forms Electronic Security Request). To access Remote Desktop from home: Connect to the network using VPN. Open your Remote Desktop Connection application (part of the Windows operating system). It will be somewhere in your Start menu. 9 You will see a box where you need to enter the Device ID of your MHS computer - enter D+ the device ID and then click Connect. Example: D (On this screen you will see your user name listed User name: METROHEALTH\jdoe). If your device ID is 6 digits with a leading zero, do not include the zero. Click the OK button at the disclaimer screen. Enter your MHS Network ID & Password and click OK. You will now be working as if you are at your MHS desk. Logging off Remote Desktop: To log off your Remote Desktop session, choose Start Logoff. You will see a window asking Are you sure you want to log off? Click Log off. See the below for how to log off SSLVPN Logging out of SSLVPN Make sure you have logged out of the Application Portal or Remote Desktop connection. If you minimized your SSLVPN connection page, select it on your taskbar and maximize it. Click the Logout button on your main page. You should now see a web page stating that Your session is finished.. Close this page & you are done! Page 9 of 10 Revised 12 July 2010

10 NOTE: The Network Access and Citrix Client are one time installations. The only time the installation would need to be repeated is with an upgrade to the SSLVPN system.
