In 2011, over 212,000 students enrolled in college credit courses at these institutions throughout Ohio. Two-year colleges consist of three types: technical, state community, and community. Technical colleges provide hands-on education in a specific field. Many technical college graduates transfer to baccalaureate programs. Both state community and community colleges offer technical programs and university parallel programs providing students with a variety of options. Students who choose to begin their college careers at a two-year college cite quality of education and reasonable cost as the main benefits. Completing the first two years of a bachelor s degree at a twoyear college can save the student several thousand dollars. A variety of technical, career-oriented degrees offered by two-year colleges can lead to employment immediately after the student completes his/her associate degree. 4 Belmont College 120 Fox - Shannon Place, St. Clairsville, Ohio Profile: Belmont College offers more than 25 degrees and 11 certificate programs. In addition, the Workforce Development and Community Education Department offers classes for those seeking a specific skill-set without the extended time commitment of completing a degree. Belmont offers credit and non-credit programing at the Main Campus in St. Clairsville, Ohio. The College also has off-campus locations in Cadiz and Woodsfield, Ohio as well as online classes. In addition, Clark State has articulation agreements with area four-year colleges and universities allowing students to complete the first two years of a bachelor s degree at Clark State and transfer as a junior to four-year institutions. 7 Eastern Gateway Community College 4000 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, Ohio Eastern Gateway Community College is newly expanded to serve the residents of Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning and Trumbull counties with two-year associate degree and short-term certificate programs as well as courses that will transfer. Profile: The college offers technical training in over 60 programs leading to one-year certificates and/or associate degrees.
