1 COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS Unless otherwise noted, application for scholarships is through the Office of Student Financial Aid. * indicates graduate scholarships. Amy Allen Special Education Scholarship For full-time undergraduate students attending the Athens campus of Ohio University and majoring in special education within the College of Education. Recipients must have completed Blocks I and II of their academic programs and must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative g.p.a. Applicants must submit two or three references, a resume, and a philosophy statement. Selection made by the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Contact College of Education regarding application for this scholarship. Imre & Carolyn Balogh Education Scholarship The individual must reside in the city of Cleveland, or the counties of Cuyahoga, Geauga, Medina, Lake, Portage or Lorain. The recipient must be female and enrolled in Early Childhood Education full time at the Athens campus. The scholarship is renewable provided the individual maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5. Dr. Irene G. Bandy-Hedden Scholarship The scholarship must be awarded to underrepresented minorities. Preference for awarding the scholarship is as follows: African-American students (1st preference); female students (2nd preference); special-needs students (3rd preference). The special needs students are defined as individuals with physical disabilities. The scholarship is renewable until graduation (maximum of five (5) years). The individual must maintain a 2.75 GPA and remain a Science or Math Education major. If the individual changes his/her major from the specified areas, the individual is no longer eligible to receive the scholarship. In the event an individual is no longer eligible, the scholarship shall be awarded to a new incoming freshman. Robert & Eloise Beverage Scholarship Students majoring in Special Education -Moderate to Intensive Education Needs will be considered for this scholarship who demonstrate the following qualities (listed in order of relative importance): (1) Outstanding Work Ethic, (2) Passion to work in the field of Special Education, (3) Emotional stability necessary to persevere in the field of Special Education. Additionally, students are required to be an upperclassmen at the Athens Campus with a minimum earned GPA of 2.5. Selection of successful candidate will also be based on financial need.

Crow Scholarship Established by a 1923 graduate who received an Ohio University honorary doctorate of humane letters in Lester Crow was an innovator in education and authored more than 50 books. Intended for education majors, with recommendation from the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Alice Crow Scholarship Established by Lester D. Crow in memory of his first wife, who was a leader in the field of training guidance counselors. Assists a full-time undergraduate student with financial need in the teacher education program on the Athens campus. Selection made by the dean of the College of Education. L. Dale & Mildred K. Davison Education Fund Medical Service Corps Lt. L. Dale and Nurse Corps Lt. Mildred K. (Free) Davison met in the Philippines in They later established this scholarship as a means of continuing their lifetimes of service. For full-time undergraduate students, enrolled in the College of Education on the Athens Campus, who are residents of the State of Ohio. The number of awards and the amount of each award shall be determined by the annual amount available for expenditure so long as each award is equal to at least one-half the annual tuition and fees amount. The primary consideration for selection shall be the applicant's demonstrated financial need. The selection committee is urged to consider students who are intending to teach subject areas or grade levels in which there are shortages. All other things being equal, students who plan to teach those subject areas or grade levels should be given special consideration provided they demonstrate financial need. Clara DeLand Scholarship Awarded to outstanding full-time undergraduate students majoring in special education. Selection made by the dean of the College of Education based on scholastic standing, volunteer service and potential as a special education teacher. Dean's Scholarship For upperclass students with selection based on academic excellence and talent, with recommendations from the Scholarship Committee of each college on the Athens campus. Recipients must have at least a 3.4 cumulative g.p.a. and must have earned a total of 32 hours for Fall and Winter quarters of the application year. Clara Deland Award Fund Awarded to outstanding full-time undergraduate students majoring in special education. Selection made by the dean of the College of Education based on scholastic standing, volunteer service and potential as a special education teacher.
3 College of Education Scholarship for Minorities For full-time undergraduate multicultural students majoring within the College of Education. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of Selection made by the College of Education Scholarship Committee. College of Education Scholarship Awarded by the College of Education. College of Education Alumni Scholarship Awarded to full-time undergraduates or students entering the College of Education. Students must be majoring within the college and must demonstrate academic merit. Selection made by the College of Education and Recruitment Committee. Agnes Eisen Scholarship This endowment is to help fund a one-year exchange program between OU's College of Education and any other accredited educational institution. Selection by the dean of the College of Education and the director of the School of Curriculum and Instruction. Enlow-Whilhelm Scholarship Scholarship available to students majoring in Education. Mary Vickers Erskine Education Scholarship First preference should be given to residents of Athens County, Ohio, and second preference given to residents of the State of Ohio. John & Marguerite Evans Scholarship For a full-time junior or senior at the Athens campus majoring in secondary academic subjects within the College of Education. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0. Preference will be given to students from Licking, Knox and Summit counties in Ohio. If no such student can be found, any student from Ohio meeting the other criteria may receive the award. Irene Dates Fraser Scholarship To be awarded to a worthy Education major studying French or Spanish Secondary Education by the College of Education. Mary T. Gooding Endowed Scholarship This award is for a full or part-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary or secondary education. Applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance, have at least a 3.0 cumulative g.p.a., and must have graduated from Logan High School and be residents of Logan, Ohio.
4 Jeffrey T. & Rose L. Heintz Scholarship for Studies of Economics & Education Funds to be used on a rotating basis and awarded by the Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education. Education students must have a GPA of 3.4 or higher and be enrolled in good standing within the college. The recipients may major in elementary education, special education or early childhood education. *HVFH/Pi Beta Phi Endowed Scholarship For a full-time graduate student enrolled in the College of Education. Recipient must be an alumna of the Ohio University Chapter of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. If no such student is identified, the award will go to an alumna of any collegiate chapter of Pi Beta Phi Sorority who is admitted to the OU College of Education graduate program. If still no student is found, the award will go to any female grad student in the College of Education. Contact the College of Education regarding application for this scholarship. Julia Jolliffe-Woods Scholarship Restricted to full-time undergraduate females on the Athens campus who are majoring in elementary or secondary education. Students must demonstrate financial need and be dedicated to the teaching profession. Selection made by the College of Education. The Mary Elizabeth Keller Scholarship Fund This scholarship is administered by the Lorain County Retired Teachers Association. The Mary Elizabeth Keller Scholarship in amounts of $ is available to current college sophomores or juniors preparing for a career in the education profession. Applicants must be residents of Lorain County and/or must have graduated from any high school in Lorain County. For more information, and application please visit: Ann Kittle King Merit Scholarship Applicants will be limited to those who reside in the following Ohio counties: Athens, Adams, Brown, Fairfield, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton and Washington. Preference will be given to Athens and Perry Counties. Arthur & Kathleen Marinelli Scholarship For a full-time undergraduate student. Applicants must demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Major - Secondary Math Education in the College of Education. George & June Mattson Scholarship Scholarship award alternates annually between Chemistry majors and Spanish majors enrolled in secondary education.
5 Thomas C. McCracken Scholarship Established for a resident of Athens County who is majoring in education on the Athens campus. Selection made by the College of Education Scholarship Committee in consultation with the OSFAS. Mary Moden Teaching Scholarship The student selected will be a graduate of Nelsonville High School and have declared Education as their major. The scholarship will be awarded for one year only. Donald & Caryl Rentz Scholarship Named after Caryl Rentz, an OU graduate who taught at the elementary level in the Dayton area until her retirement, and Donald Rentz, who was an engineer in the Dayton area. For a full-time junior student majoring in Elementary Education within the College of Education. To be given to a student who shows potential for being an effective, innovative and dedicated classroom teacher at the elementary level. Recipients should have a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. Grace & Mildred Roberts Education Scholarship To be awarded to graduates of Nelsonville-York High School who are enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education. Within the College of Arts and Sciences, only those students majoring in the traditional professional humanities, defined as pre-med, pre-law and ministry will be considered. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 and have financial need. *James E. Rodgers Memorial Scholarship Recipients must have at least 30 hours of credit toward a master's degree or the educational specialist certificate or must have passed the comprehensive examination in the doctoral program. For a graduate student studying educational administration. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic success, commitment to a career in public school administration and demonstrated potential as an effective leader in education. Hestor South Memorial Scholarship To be awarded to a student majoring in primary education. State Teachers Retirement System Inc. Scholarship The purpose of this scholarship is to assist in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students in the education profession. The funds from this scholarship will be used to support full-time, undergraduate minority students enrolled in the College of Education. The funds may be used to assist students with expenses such as tuition, room and board, and or books.
6 Ron & Calista Strickmaker Scholarship Donated by Ron and Calista Strickmaker, the parents of Stacey Strickmaker, who was born with Down's Syndrome in 1979 and has had a positive impact on her family and the Athens community. For full-time juniors and seniors enrolled in the College of Education and majoring in special education. *Jane & Seldon Strother Instructional Technology Scholarship For graduate students who intend to pursue careers in instructional media. A minimum 3.5 g.p.a. is required. Selection made by the OSFAS based on recommendations from the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Mary Ellin Weinberg Education Scholarship Recipient(s) must be graduates of Grandview Heights High School. First preference is for students majoring in Early Childhood Education, second preference is given to Middle Childhood Education majors and third preference is given to Young Adolescent Education majors. Incoming freshmen recipients must be ranked in the top 25% of their high school class. Upperclass recipients must maintain a 3.0 in their major as well as overall. The scholarship is renewable provided the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the specified programs in the College of Education. Harold & Sarah Welker Scholarship All recipients should demonstrate a true commitment to teaching and service to children - this will be left to the discretion of the college's scholarship committee. First preference is to be given to graduates of Vermillion or Sandusky High Schools. Second preference is to be given to graduates of Erie County High Schools. If there are no eligible students from these geographic areas then the award should go to a student who exhibits a high degree of potential as a classroom teacher. NOTE: As a last preference, students enrolled in the College of Health and Human Services who are majoring in Early Childhood Education may also be considered if there are no other eligible candidates who meet the other criteria. George E. Wood Scholarship Preference goes to elementary education majors who are Athens High School graduates. Selection made by the OSFAS based on academic achievement. Harry & Helen Woodruff Scholarship This scholarship is awarded by the College of Education to freshman and upperclass students. Thom Wright II Memorial Scholarship
