1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post Occupational Health Nurse Advisor Band Band 6 Hours Location Responsible To: Full Time/Part Time Occupational Health Department, Littlemore Mental Health Centre, Oxford Head of Occupational Health JOB SUMMARY The post holder is responsible for providing comprehensive and objective occupational health advice to the Trust and other occupational health contracts. The post holder will exercise considerable initiative; work autonomously and will establish relationships with service users and other agencies from both the public and private sectors and will be a key player in this rapidly evolving occupational health service in line with current occupational health and well being initiatives. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To provide professional, objective occupational health advice 2. To provide health surveillance in accordance with current legislation 3. To provide immunisation programmes in line with Department of Health guidelines 4. To be involved in sickness absence case management. Including return to work and rehabilitation programmes 5. Undertake new starter health screening 6. To give sound advice on relevant occupational health legislation providing specialist education and training to all occupational health employees and external clients. 7. To work in partnership with other departments as required
2 8. To provide peripatetic clinics across local counties 9. To attend meetings as required providing specialist advice to managers, other health care professionals and supporting the development and delivery of the Trust s Wellbeing & Culture paper. 10. To assist the Head of Occupational Health with projects where required 11. Periodically review existing information systems, making recommendations for improvement as appropriate. 12. Support the Office Manager and Head of Occupational Health in the maintenance of high standards within the clinical environment as required. 13. Provide cover for other clinical colleagues in times of sickness and annual leave and in times of work pressure, as required. 14. Ensure that at all times the service complies with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, the Data Protection Act 1998, The Access to Medical Records Reports Act 1988 and the NMC Code of Practice on Confidentiality 15. Any other duties within the scope of the post commensurate with grade GENERAL To maintain valid and up to date registration with the NMC and comply with NMC guidelines in relation to professional issues and clinical supervision To maintain working knowledge of Trust policies and procedures and adopt these accordingly To maintain a flexible approach to the role according to professional and service needs To work in accordance with the Trust s health and safety policies To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post Promote equality of opportunity and provide an environment in which the dignity of individuals is respected and free from workplace harassment and bullying Information being handled by employees of the Trust is strictly confidential. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Post Title & Location: Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, Occupational Health Department Band: 6 Qualifications Work Experience & Attainments Knowledge Management & Development of the Team Skills and Aptitudes ESSENTIAL Registration with NMC Part 3 Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health Sound educational background including a good standard of numeracy and written English. Proven occupational health knowledge Computer literate and competent in the use of all Microsoft Office Applications e.g. , word processing and spreadsheets etc. High standard of written and spoken English Negotiation and motivational skills Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision. Able to prioritise own workload and manage own time, self motivated and capable of working flexibly and to strict deadlines using own initiative. DESIRABLE Knowledge and experience of working in NHS occupational health Working in a nurse led service A team player with the ability to plan and organise the work within the team in order to meet specified deadlines and service needs.
