Wilson McCaskill Congratulations This week we celebrate the success of two of our students who have achieved outstanding results competing for our school. Caitlyn competed at regional level in the girls under 12 High Jump. She won the event with a jump of 1.4 metres. An outstanding jump! Caitlyn now competes at the State Championships good luck. We had many other excellent results at the regional finals and all students should be so proud of their results we certainly are! Aleisha continued her success representing the school in dressage. Here is a report from Aleisha On Saturday the 18 th of October I competed in the Spring Inter School Dressage Together Barney and I accomplished great things. We completed two dressage tests. In the first dressage test I got first place. In my second test I came second. My two scores got me overall champion for the day. There was also a series that went throughout the whole year. I had the highest overall score in Primary Preliminary, winning! At the end of the day I won 2 ribbons, a rosette, a sash and a winner s rug for my horse, Barney. Ashleigh H also competed that day but unfortunately didn t place. She still had a great day! By Aleisha C 6A. Carpark At school Council on Monday night we discussed the ongoing issue with the car parking on the basketball court. There is an area that is clearly marked as a drop and go area, and that is being ignored by some parents/ guardians who are parking in this area. This results in traffic not flowing and causing a bottleneck. Please refrain from doing this! When I was observing the car park the other day I also noticed that when leaving the school that some cars turning right are not moving across to the right hand side, this stops the flow of traffic also as cars turning left can not get through please endeavour to move to the right allowing the better exit of cars. Thank you. Grade 3 camp I had the wonderful pleasure of attending the Year 3 camp at the Briars. The children were outstanding in both their behaviour and also the have a go attitude they all displayed with the challenging activities! I would like to thank the staff that attended camp and also the many staff that dropped in after hours to visit the children. Your dedication to the children made the camp very successful and the children really appreciated your efforts. Kids Matter Resource area Our school s Kidsmatter Team have set up a resource area near the office. There are brochures, flyers, books and even DVDs on issues ranging from Separated Families, Anxiety and Depression, Parenting, through to dealing with Head lice, Dentists and CyberSafety. We encourage any parent or carer to take whatever they need. Please let the office know if it is the last one so we can replace it! The resources may also change overtime. 5 Changes to the Education Maintenance Allowance The final payment for the 2014 EMA was made in August From 1 January 2015, the government will provide extra financial support directly to Victoria s neediest schools instead of providing the Education Maintenance Allowance directly to parents. Parents will not be able to apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance in The money will be allocated to eligible schools through schools core operational funding mechanism, with the neediest schools receiving the most funding. Not all schools will be receiving funding in This change to how the money is distributed was required by the funding agreement with Commonwealth government to make sure Victorian schools receive increased funding that will benefit all students and, in particular, those from schools with concentrated disadvantage. If you have any questions about this change, please speak to your school principal. What support is still being provided directly to parents? The end of the EMA direct payments to parents will not affect any other Centrelink direct payment you may be receiving such as the Schoolkids Bonus. If you are experiencing financial hardship, you can also speak to your principal about how you can access assistance from the State Schools Relief Committee for clothing and uniforms. Why is the EMA changing? The reason for the change stems from the 2013 School Funding Reform Agreement, signed between Victoria and the Commonwealth. The Victorian Government committed an additional $5.4 billion school funding, which included a change to the way it helps low-income families with education expenses. In order to secure Commonwealth funding, Victoria was obliged to shift as much education funding as possible into direct payments to schools. If the Victorian Government failed to adhere to this condition, the entire additional funding agreed to by the Commonwealth would have been at risk for Victoria. By redirecting EMA payments from parents direct to schools, Victoria was able to secure this increase in education funding which will benefit all students and, in particular, those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

6 Last Thursday we had several students compete in the Regional Athletics. The results were outstanding and a special CONGRATULATIONS to CAITLYN She won her High Jump and now competes at STATE Level on Monday at Albert Park Good Luck Other excellent results were Kasey J- 5 th in High Jump Finn J 5 th in High Jump Taryn 2 nd in her heat in Hurdles also 5 th in High Jump James 3 rd in this heat in Hurdles Ethan - 4 th in Shotput Charlotte - 3 rd in 100m Chloe J 7 th in 800m Elle 6 th in 800m Elishia Shotput 8th 12/13yr girls relay (Chelsea, Kasey, Caitlyn and Elle) came 7 th Thanks to Elle for filling in at the last minute as unfortunately poor Charlotte injured herself in the 100m and couldn t run relay. 10yrs girls relay (Hailee, Bianca, Taryn and Amberleigh) came 5 th Thanks again to all the wonderful parents who supported our clever athletes. 7 Divisional Girls Softball Final Yesterday we headed to Frankston to play in the Divisional Finals after being undefeated all season. What a game. We played Karingal Primary School and won convincingly. WELL DONE GIRLS. A great win. It was a real team effort with everybody doing their jobs on the field. There were a lot of big hits and a couple of excellent home runs scored. The fielding was fantastic. Awesome pitching by Kiala and Elle. We are now through to the Regional Finals on Thursday 13 th Nov. Thanks once again to those great parents for all the cheering.. Go Pearcedale!!!!!!! Rhonda Peney Running Club will be on Fridays at Lunchtime. Table Tennis Now that Basketball has finished, Table Tennis will be on Thursday at Lunchtime for Grade 5 and 6. One of our School Captains Kyle has taken on the role to organise a Table Tennis Tournament. Great initiative Kyle!

12 Congratulations to Kane Spiers on his achievement at The World Karate Championships in Sydney. Kane competed against children from 11 different countries and came 5 th in Traditional Forms. We wish him luck in the Australian Karate Championships held in Sydney in November.
