1 Job Description Job title: Senior Accountant Reports to: Head of Finance & Investments Location: Salary: Creative Skillet, London 45,000 pro rata Contract Type: Fixed Term to 30 th June 2017 Job context: Creative Skillset is the Creative Industries skills development partner. We work with and for industry to improve productivity, creativity and employability primarily across TV, film, VFX, animation and games through targeted skills development from education to executive level. Our success in achieving our priorities for our industries depends critically on our people, the funding we obtain, and our ability to manage our own delivery. We need to diversify our income streams and increase the proportion of our income from non-government funding in order that our organisation is more self-reliant and sustainable. We need to fully recover the costs of all overheads and support staff against the activities we undertake as well as develop and maintain sufficient cash reserves to fund business development for the future. Job purpose: The Senior Accountant will provide technical expertise in finance and accounting matters and cover transaction processing, reporting and treasury management. They will be responsible for adherence to, review and implementation of financial controls and for providing high quality financial and management information. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) to support the Head of Finance & Investments with major initiatives/projects/change (e.g. Transition) along with the day to day running of the Finance Department. We re looking for a well organised individual with good practical skills and the ability to deal with all aspects of the finance role. You will be a positive, confident communicator who can take ownership of this exciting and varied role. You will be comfortable liaising with colleagues at all levels across the organisation and able to manage competing priorities. You are able to work well in a participative team environment, possess a high level of professionalism, trust and integrity and are able to adopt a flexible approach in a quickly developing organisation. 1

2 Candidates need to be available to start early August 2016 Key responsibilities: Support the Head of Finance & Investments in providing high quality financial support to the organisation. Lead on the production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts including budgeting, forecasting, report writing, and journal postings as required. Manage expenditure budgets to ensure delivery of priorities liaising with other managers and budget holders as required. Provide advice and support to budget holders throughout the organisation as required, with the aim of developing understanding of budgetary management and financial reporting issues. Prepare draft accounts for statutory audit and lead liaison with external auditors Prepare financial reporting information required by internal and external committees as required including, but not limited to, the Finance and Audit Committee and external stakeholders. Lead the provision of financial information required by Companies House, Charity Commission and HMRC (Quarterly VAT returns). Provide Treasury Management- oversee banking arrangements, cash flow forecasting and maintaining treasury positions. Undertake internal audit work as agreed with the Head of Finance and implement identified improvements. Ensure that the resources of the organisation are deployed efficiently and in compliance with contractual and statutory obligations. Ensure adequacy of and adherence to financial controls. Ensure all systems and procedures are as responsive, timely, flexible, streamlined and as customer focussed as possible. Work with the wider finance and operational teams as required, including ad hoc analysis and projects. Support the organisation with financial information for new funding bids, legacy income, and grant income streams. Contribute to business planning and strategy formulation through project reviews and cost analysis. Work with HR to manage the accuracy and timeliness of payroll. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW TO TEST EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Proven experience of working in a role involving managing, leading, building and maintaining effective internal and external partnerships and relationships. Excellent diplomacy and well developed negotiation and persuasion skills combined with sound judgement and decision making processes. Planning skills, with the ability to complete and finish tasks on time, to high standards and to budget. Experience of producing reports and other formal professional documentation. Excellent management and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team of people. Demonstrable understanding and practical application of financial controls Ability and experience of working hands-on as well as overseeing and taking an overview as a senior team member Financial/budget management skills and experience of resource allocation including performance measurements and value for money; Experience of the not for profit sector. Practical knowledge of public sector accounting and financial management. Excellent written and verbal communication and persuasion skills, including presentation skills and the ability to interpret and convey complex quantitative and qualitative intelligence to a range of audiences. First class interpersonal skills and ability to deal sensitively with a variety of audiences and apply appropriate judgements. Ability to weigh arguments and substantiate judgements. Ability to write clearly and lucidly, with excellent report writing skills, including the drafting of formal documents and guidance. Ability to work on multiple strands of activity simultaneously and to be able to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Good eye for detail Good technical knowledge and experience of applying accounting standards Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability and willingness to use and implement new techniques and/or tackle new challenges effectively.
