3 1 Overview This document provides installation instructions and general release information related to the Plantronics Smart Presence application for Microsoft Lync This software will provide presence related features in addition to the already existing remote call control features provided by Plantronics Spokes for Windows software. The following sections present in detail the supported Windows versions, installation instructions and supported software features. 2 Supported platforms 2.1 Platform and Operating System Requirements Plantronics Smart Presence app for Lync 2013 software runs on the same platforms as Plantronics Spokes for Windows software, i.e., Intel[R] x86 and x64 platform (including compatible CPUs from other manufacturers) running Windows 7 or Windows Supported Plantronics devices Same set of Plantronics devices are supported by this application as are supported by Plantronics Spokes for Windows. Refer to the Install Notes document ( for Spokes for Windows for details. 3 Installation Steps 3.1 Pre-requisites The following pre-requisite pieces of software must be installed before you install this application: 1. Plantronics Spokes software for Windows version 2.8 or higher 2. Microsoft.NET Framework Microsoft Lync Installing the Plantronics Smart Presence app Run the setup file provided in the same download page as Plantronics Spokes for Windows software (accessed from and complete the installation. If.NET Framework 4.0 or Plantronics Spokes for Windows pre-requisites are not installed, you will be presented with a CONTINUE option which will take you to the download page of that pre-requisite. However, at the end of the installation of the pre-requisite software, installation will not resume and you must re-launch the installer for the Plantronics Smart Presence app. Plantronics Smart Presence for Lync 2013 Page 3 of 6 March 26, 2013

4 3.3 Starting Plantronics Smart Presence for Lync 2013 app Following the installation, this application software starts automatically at each system restart. 4 Software Features Plantronics Smart Presence app for Microsoft Lync 2013 provides the following presence status related features. All these features assume that you have the following pieces of software installed and running on your system: 1. Microsoft Lync Plantronics Spokes for Windows version 2.8 or higher 3. Plantronics Smart Presence application for Lync 2013 version 1.0 or higher 4.1 On a mobile phone call If you are using a multi-interface Plantronics headset that can connect or pair with multiple devices, e.g., a mobile phone as well as your PC for softphone calls, this feature will automatically set Microsoft Lync 2013 presence status to IN A CALL * when you are on a mobile call. 4.2 On a deskphone call If you are using a multi-interface Plantronics headset that can connect or pair with multiple devices, e.g., your deskphone as well as your PC for softphone calls, this feature will automatically set Microsoft Lync 2013 presence status to IN A CALL * when you are on a call using your deskphone. 4.3 On another Softphone call If you use other softphones in addition to Microsoft Lync 2013, this feature will automatically set Microsoft Lync 2013 presence status to IN A CALL * when you are on a call using the other softphone. 6 6 Known issues/limitations 1. The following two Smart Sensor related features are not supported by this software: o Wearing State where Microsoft Lync presence status can be customized to a chosen value when the headset is simply put on or removed. o Escalate-IM-to-Voice where an IM session on Lync is advanced to a voice call when the user puts on the Plantronics headset with Smart Sensors. 2. Disabling the Plantronics Control Panel parameter named Enable auto presence update on Microsoft OC/Lync and Skype has no effect on the operation of this application: Plantronics Smart Presence for Lync 2013 Page 6 of 6 March 26, 2013
