How to Install and Set up a Jabra Go 6400 and Pro9400 Series Headset with an Avaya 96x1 Series IP Phone Note: The EHS (Electronic Hook Switch) link is used with all Jabra Headsets sold by CNS/NI&S. For installing and setting up your Jabra headset to work with your Avaya 96x1 phone, you ll be working with two components (aside from your Avaya phone): Jabra EHS (Electronic Hook Switch): The Jabra EHS provides a solution that enables remote operation: e.g., one can answer and end calls, adjust volume, mute the microphone, and hear ring tones through the headset while away from one s desk. Jabra GO Headset Base and Cradle: The Jabra base and headset cradle are where your headset is recharged and docked when not in use. There is also a touchscreen used to set up the phone and specify the device to receive incoming calls. 1 P a g e
The Jabra Pro 9400/6400 series headsets all have the same connection points on the back of the headset base. The ports are color-coded to ensure proper connection: The following connectors are used on the back of the Jabra Pro headset base: Yellow symbol is the power connector to wall outlet (PLUG POWER IN LAST) White symbol to the right of the yellow power connector is USB cable to PC Red AUX is the fat phone type connector that connects to red AUX port on EHS Link 35 adapter Blue Telephone symbol is the connection to blue telephone symbol on EHS Link35 adapter Note: You DO NOT use the connector from the base to the EHS: this connector is not needed when using a Link 35 EHS. 2 P a g e
Out of the box, the EHS Link 35 adapter has the necessary cables already connected (shown on the bottom right of Figure 1): Figure 1 Figure 2 You will connect the Red AUX from the EHS to the Red Aux on the headset base, and the Blue Telephone from EHS to Blue Telephone on headset base as shown above. The cable with the White tab on either end connects to the Avaya phone in the headset port as shown here: 3 P a g e
The last cable that you need to connect is the ring detector, which looks like this: To install the ring detector, remove the handset from the Avaya phone so you can see the speaker grate, peel off the red plastic circle, and place the ring detector on the speaker grate, applying a little pressure: Once you have all of the connections correct as described above, plug the power adapter in, and the base will boot up. 4 P a g e
For the Jabra Pro 9450, you DO NOT need to complete the steps below. You just need to put your headset on the base to allow it to charge, and it will work. For the Jabra Pro 9460/Duo/9470 and Jabra Go 6470, you will need to complete the following steps to set up the base: To determine the model of your Jabra device, check the underside of the headset base. Step 1: To begin the setup in English, tap English: Step 2: Tap the right arrow > to connect/configure your headset: 5 P a g e
Step 3: When prompted to do so, place your headset on the charging dock connector: Step 4: Tap Yes to connect to a desk phone: 6 P a g e
Step 5: Tap Manual: Step 6: Under Select Adapter, tap DHSG, which is used for the EHS adapters: 7 P a g e
Step 7: Verify the clear dial-tone switch is set to option A (tap minus or plus + to adjust to A if needed) then tap the right arrow >: Step 8: Set the microphone level to the recommended level of 6 by tapping the minus button on the screen until it reads 6, then tap the right arrow >: 8 P a g e
Step 9: Tap the right arrow > to complete the setup: Step 10: If you want the headset to connect to a soft phone (PC), tap Yes: this allows the headset to work as an Audio Device in Windows; if you do not want to connect to a soft phone or use the headset with Windows, tap No and skip to step 15: 9 P a g e
Step 11: Tap the right arrow > to begin the soft phone setup: Step 12: To set up the headset for use with Avaya One-X Communicator, tap Avaya: Note: You can change this option within the Jabra PC Suite software for use with other soft phone clients, such as Skype. 10 P a g e
Step 13: Tap the right arrow > to confirm the Jabra PC Suite reminder: Step 14: Tap the right arrow > to confirm the message about more information on soft phone setup: 11 P a g e
Step 15: If you want the headset to connect to a Mobile Phone, tap Yes. This allows the headset to sync as a Bluetooth device on your mobile phone. If you do not want to connect to a mobile phone, tap No and skip to step 20: Note: Only the Jabra Go 6470 has Bluetooth in the actual headset, the Pro 9460 and 9470 have Bluetooth in the base, so your mobile phone would have to be placed next to the base to answer a call to your mobile phone with the headset. Step 16: Tap the right arrow > when prompted to find the Bluetooth menu on your mobile phone: 12 P a g e
Step 17: At the Activate Bluetooth pairing screen, you will need to go into your mobile phone and make your device discoverable to continue to the next screen. If prompted for a pin, use 0000 as shown on the left below. If you see Pairing Failed, tap Retry as shown on the right: Step 18: Confirm the connection on your mobile phone and then tap the right arrow > to proceed with the setup: 13 P a g e
Step 19: Tap the right arrow > to complete the Mobile Phone setup: Step 20: When asked to set up Personal Preferences, tap Yes: 14 P a g e
Step 21: To adjust screen brightness, leave the default or select the setting of your choice, then tap the right arrow >: Step 22: For screen dimmer timeout, leave the default as 60 sec or select the setting of your choice, then tap the right arrow >: 15 P a g e
Step 23: Set the base-speaker volume for Mobile phone ringtones to Off by tapping the minus key until the yellow tick is under Off as shown below, then tap the right arrow > (if you did not set up a mobile phone, skip to step 24) Step 24: Set the base-speaker volume for desk phone ringtones to Off by tapping the minus key until the yellow tick is under Off as shown below, then tap the right arrow >: 16 P a g e
Step 25: Set the base-speaker volume for soft phone ringtones to Off by tapping the minus key until the yellow tick is under Off as shown below, then tap the right arrow > (if you did not set up a soft phone, skip to step 26): Step 26: Set the base-speaker click volume for touchscreen operations to Low or Off by tapping minus or plus + to adjust to your preferred setting, then tap the right arrow >: 17 P a g e
Step 27: When prompted about Target indication, tap the right arrow >: Step 28: Tap English voice so you see a green check mark, and then tap the right arrow >: 18 P a g e
Step 29: After reading about how to change settings using the tool icon, tap the right arrow >: Step 30: Tap the right arrow > after reading about the features of Jabra PC Suite: 19 P a g e
Step 31: Tap Yes to go through the introduction to the headset controls: Step 32: Notice the Answer/End button on the headset used for answering and ending calls: Note: If you have the auto-answer on undock set, when you take the headset off of the base, you will automatically be answering the call. 20 P a g e
Step 33: Notice volume is adjusted by sliding your finger up or down on the side of the headset: Step 34: Notice you can double tap the touch sensor to mute and un-mute the call: 21 P a g e
Step 35: Notice the optimal wearing position for the headset is with the microphone as close to the mouth as possible (applicable only in Pro 9460/9470 setup): Step 36: Notice you can rotate the docking cradle to a preferred position (applicable only in Pro 9460/9470 setup only): 22 P a g e
Step 37: At the Congratulations, setup complete. The base will restart to apply settings. prompt, tap x to complete setup: You will see the base restart, and the headset is now ready for use. It is recommended to install Jabra PC Suite on your machine to manage your device settings as well as upgrade the device firmware. For the Pro 9450 headset, this is the only way to manage the device settings.
