3 Plantronics Hub software Plantronics Hub for Windows/Mac, part of the Plantronics Spokes software portfolio, is a client application that allows end users to control the settings on their Plantronics audio device. End users are provided with softphone call control, firmware updates, customization options and more. The software enhances the user experience by providing valuable information about the state of their Plantronics audio device, such as mute and battery status, which are made easily visible from the desktop. Plantronics Hub can also be used as part of an enterprise-wide deployment with Plantronics Manager Pro or Plantronics Manager. Learn more at plantronics.com/software. 4 The basics Your first look When you first open Plantronics Hub, you see one of two screens: If no Plantronics headset is connected to the computer, you see the introductory screen asking you to connect your device. If one or more devices are connected, the screen displays the About page with information about the primary device. If more than one device is connected to your system, you can select other devices from the device drop-down in the upper left corner. System tray or menu bar Plantronics Hub automatically starts up with your computer and runs in the background to provide call control functions on your headset. You can use the Plantronics Hub icon on the system tray or menu bar to easily access Plantronics Hub. It is often in the top or bottom of your desktop, near the clock and volume control icons. 1 Left or right-click the Plantronics Hub icon in your System Tray. Depending on the type of headset you are using and the state of that headset, you will see one of these icons: The headset icon for non-battery-powered devices:. The headset icon for battery-powered devices:. The headset icon can show mute, charge or connection status. 2 You will see the name of your primary device with its remaining battery life, if applicable, displayed at the top of the menu. 3 Use this menu for any of the following tasks: Determine how much battery power is remaining on your primary device headset. Click the device to open the Plantronics Hub interface. Select Mute or Unmute to toggle mute off or on. 4 Select Quit Plantronics Hub to close the Plantronics Hub process. Primary device icons The primary device icon on the menu bar provides information about the type of headset you are using and the state of that headset. Device Icon Status USB- or AC-charging device Device charging Wired device Connected and not muted Device with battery Charging status General No device detected General or Mute Change your primary device In Plantronics Hub, the primary device is the designated device for Call Control, which enables you to answer/end, hold/resume, and mute/unmute a call directly from your headset, when your headset has these capabilities. You can view and select any of the devices that you have plugged into your computer by expanding the device selector in the upper left hand corner. To change your primary device: 4

5 1 Click Change on the Primary Device row. 2 Select device from the list and then click Make Primary. Customize Check battery status Mute Use the Settings tab to customize your user experience. Select a category from the dropdown list to view settings available for the selected device. A category of settings will only display if there are one or more settings available for that category. General settings let you configure some headset and software behaviors that do not fit in the other categories. "Language" settings let you select the language you would like to use for voice prompts and alerts. Ringtones & Volume settings let you select different ringtones based on the source (desk phone, mobile phone, or PC softphone). Some devices also allow you to select the ringtone volume, or even disable the ringtone altogether. Softphones or Softphones & Media Players settings let you set a target softphone and determine the action a media player will take when a call is received or ended. The target softphone is used for initiating outgoing calls with dial tone or dialpad for supported devices and softphones. "Sensors & Presence" settings allow you to define actions that will be taken based on putting the headset on or taking it off such as Auto-Answer, Auto Mute, Auto-Pause Music, and Smart Audio Transfer. On a Windows machine, some of these actions modify your presence state in Microsoft Lync/Skype. These settings are applicable to devices that contain a smart sensor. Smart sensors detect whether or not you are wearing the headset. A sensor may be located in the headset body and speaker housing. Wireless settings let you set the bandwidth, range, and wireless connections for your wireless headset. Advanced settings are used to apply additional audio level limiting algorithms beyond the basic safety limits provided by all Plantronics headsets. These settings can be implemented to further reduce sudden loud sounds, or the audio level to your ear, based on the amount of time you spend on the phone each day. For devices with batteries, you can view the battery status from the About page of Plantronics Hub. Battery Level displays either the percentage of battery power remaining or the amount of talk time remaining for the device. Another way to check the battery status of your device is to left- or right-click the headset icon on the system tray or menu bar. Most devices have a built-in option to mute or unmute your headset, usually by pressing a button on the headset. Refer to your device s user guide for more information. You can toggle mute on and off for your headset using Plantronics Hub, too. To mute your device from Plantronics Hub, 1 Click the headset icon in the system tray and click Mute to mute your device. When the device is muted, the headset icon in the system tray displays in red. 2 Click the muted headset icon on the menu bar and click Unmute. 5

6 Advanced features Manage smart sensors options Update firmware and software Uninstall Hub Smart sensors detect whether or not you are the wearing the headset. Generally, sensors are located in the headset body and speaker housing. The Voyager series and some of the Blackwire headsets, among others, contain smart sensors. Smart sensors can optionally enable you to: Answer a call by putting on your headset. Pause streaming media (from mobile device only, not PC/Mac) by removing the headset, and resume your media by putting your headset back on. Transfer call audio back and forth between the mobile phone and headset. If you are not wearing your headset and you answer a call on your mobile phone, the audio routes to the phone. Put on the headset to transfer the active call audio to the headset. If you are already wearing your headset and answer an incoming or initiate an outgoing call, the audio will be routed to the headset. Take off the headset to transfer the audio to the mobile phone. The Sensors & Presence page of the Settings menu gives you more options for interoperability with your softphone. Some of the settings only work when your softphone is Microsoft Lync/ Skype. Use the settings on this page to have the presence or availability status in your softphone updated to reflect whether or not you are currently on a call, and what you want the presence status to display when your headset is on or off of your ear while not in a call. From time to time, updates will be available for the firmware in your headset and Plantronics Hub software. When an update is available, there will be a number in the Updates tab. Click the Updates tab to see the available updates. Click Update for each update that you want to install. We recommend installing all updates to keep your device and software functioning at its best. NOTE Not all Bluetooth devices are updated in this manner. If your Bluetooth device is listed on the Updates page, but there is no "Updates" button click on the View Details link for instructions on how to update its firmware. If you want to uninstall Hub, first quit the Hub application, then use the following steps for Windows or Mac. Windows Uninstall Plantronics Hub by going to the Control Panel > Programs and Features. Select Plantronics Hub and click Uninstall. Mac Uninstall Plantronics Hub by moving it from the Applications folder to the Trash. 6

7 Troubleshooting Audio not routing to expected device Selecting a primary device in Hub does not affect where softphone calls are routed or where audio will stream. The primary device designation is only relevant to call control. Most softphones have their own audio device settings. If softphone calls are not being routed to your primary device, change the audio device settings for your softphone. To stream audio to your primary device, set it up as the default device.
