3 1.0 Introduction This guide will show you how to do the following: Download and install Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 Service Pack 4 Edition Download and install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Service Pack 4 Edition 1.1 Installing Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 SP4 Edition 1. First you need to open up internet explorer and go to the following address. We have the latest version of Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 stored on our website Diagram 1 Softrock Website Downloads Page Page 3 of 32

4 2. Now you need to select the Microsoft SQL Express 2005 Edition SP4 Edition file to download. This includes the files for 32bit and 64bit operating system installs. Diagram 2 Select Microsoft SQL Express 2005 SP4 Edition to download Page 4 of 32

7 5. Now the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 setup should have started. You need to accept the licensing terms and conditions and select Next. Diagram 5 Accept licensing terms and conditions Page 7 of 32

9 7. Once the Installer has finished installing the prerequisites you will see two ticks next to the components. Click Next to continue. Diagram 7 Installing prerequisites completed Page 9 of 32

11 9. The Setup will run through a System Configuration Check once that has completed you need to click Next to continue. Diagram 9 System Configuration Check Page 11 of 32

13 11. Now you need to select which features you are going to install. Please select the features as shown below and click Next to continue. (a) Diagram 11 a to b Feature Selection Page 13 of 32

14 12. Now you need to select the Authentication mode you are going to use when connecting to the SQL Server. Select Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication) and enter Softr0(k as the password then click Next to continue. 15 13. Now you need to set the configuration options. Make sure only Add user to SQL Server Admin role is checked and then click Next to continue. Diagram 13 Configuration Options Page 15 of 32

19 17. Now the components should be installed. Before completing the installation to you need to go in the Surface area configuration tool and allow remote connections. Click on the Surface Area Configuration tool to continue Diagram 17 Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup completed Page 19 of 32

24 1.2 Installing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) is an easy-to-use graphical management tool for managing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services. SSMSE can also manage instances of the SQL Server Database Engine created by any edition of SQL Server First you need to open up internet explorer and go to the following address: Diagram 22 Softrock website Downloads Page Page 24 of 32

25 2. Now you need to select which operating system version of Management Studio Express to install depending on whether your operating system is a 64bit or 32bit based operating system. If you are not sure whether you are running a 32bit and 64bit based system and don t know how to check please see Diagram 23 Select 32 or 64bit versions to install Page 25 of 32
