1 Featured Ministry Position: Director of Mission and Advancement Location: Mercy Home, Brooklyn, NY Mercy Home was founded in 1862 by the Sisters of Mercy, Brooklyn (now the Mid-Atlantic Community), to serve the needs of children who experienced life s difficulties. Today, Mercy Home operates 13 group homes throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Nassau County, as well as In Home Respite; Saturday Respite for children and adults; two creative arts programs providing therapeutic art, music, dance and drama therapy; Medicaid Service Coordination; Plant, Grow and Give an urban gardening program; and a small, specialized Day Habilitation Program. Mercy Home also provides seminars and workshops for caregivers and families. Mercy Home is seeking to fill the position of director of mission and advancement with a person who is steeped in the Mercy charism. The director reports to, and works in close collaboration with, the executive director and Board of Directors in developing financial resources to maintain and expand existing programs and services, and is responsible for internal and external public relations for the agency, including oversight for all communications systems. This person must promote and facilitate the mission of the agency and the Sisters of Mercy and ensure that it is incorporated in all internal and external relationships as well as policies, procedures and decisions. The director of mission and advancement must possess an advanced degree and a minimum of five years of experience in a nonprofit with increasing responsibilities; must have excellent oral, written, computer and interpersonal skills; and possess a valid and unrestricted driver s license. 2 Featured Ministry Position: Executive Director Location: Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center, Brooklyn, NY The Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center, a small grass-roots community center founded in 1995 by the Sisters of Mercy, provides after-school services, adult education and a referral program that meets the needs of immigrant families. The executive director is responsible for the organization s consistent achievement of its mission, program goals, and financial objectives and ensures that the organization s overall operations are working effectively and efficiently. This includes staff management, program implementation, and budget allocation. S/he partners with the Board of Directors to plan and implement the Center s strategic direction. The principal is the Board s only employee and serves as the chief executive officer of the school. The principal plans and establishes policies, practices and procedures that affect the school s ability to carry out its mission. The principal oversees and directs the vice principal, directors of curriculum, religious education, development, admissions, communications, and technology, as well as the business manager and the data base manager. The principal empowers and collaborates with the vice principal and the director of curriculum in overseeing the faculty and the overall learning environment. 5 Position: Campus Minister Location: Archdiocese of Newark, Montclair, NJ The Newman Catholic Center at Montclair State University is seeking a campus minister for this extremely active and growing program in its mission to bring Jesus Christ and His Church to the campus. The successful candidate will have a commitment to collaborative ministry with members of the campus community as well as the Archdiocese of Newark laity, religious, deacons, and priests. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of serving in a secular higher education community and possess a strong commitment to educational, catechetical and social programming appropriate for collegelevel students.
