1 Saints Francis and Clare Catholic School Ministry Strategic Plan: Focus Area 1: Mission and Catholic Identity Desired Outcome 1: SSFC students, school leaders, teachers, and staff understand the Mass in its fullness including its foundation, mechanics, and purpose; and understand Catholic Traditions, traditions, prayer and holy days. They also know Jesus and the lives of the saints. plan and facilitate visits for all students to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel to participate in Adoration on a monthly basis, or when appropriate for the age group. Teachers will receive a refresher on the purpose of Eucharistic adoration. Teachers will teach students about the Mass, and Jesus life and works through reading of the Gospels. Teachers will use the vocation awareness information from the diocese to elevate students knowledge of the religious life and vocations. establish a religious library with books/ebooks, and videos on saints lives and the Church. Students, teachers, and staff will attend Mass twice weekly. Teachers will integrate a celebration of the Patron Saint of the Day when their classes host the school Mass, and in their classrooms (once each week). Teachers will complete curriculum mapping on Catechetical formation. Desired Outcome 2: SSFC is a space where all members of the school community feel welcomed and valued. develop a plan (with timeline) for parent and student education to build a positive school culture and climate. Teachers will attend bullying prevention training (e.g., Bullying in the Bible program). Staff members will receive cultural competency training including how to lovingly and inclusively address student or family differences (e.g. academic ability and needs, income, race/ethnicity, language) as our Lord, Jesus Christ modeled in the Gospel. develop outreach opportunities for non- Catholic families goal of helping them better understand our Faith. Desired Outcome 3: SSFC teachers, staff, students, and families contribute to our external community
2 through local and global service projects aligned with the Church s teachings on social justice (Catholic Social Teaching) in light of the charisms of Saints Francis and Clare. Teachers, staff, and students will study Catholic Social Teaching. Students and teachers will co- design and implement service- learning projects at each grade level connected to CST and state academic standards. Desired Outcome 4: Parents lead their families through, and educate their children about the formal and informal practices of the Catholic faith (by attending Mass). Stewardship is important; implement envelopes. Acknowledge student participation in stewardship envelopes by number rather than amount. Focus Area 2: Academic Excellence Desired Outcome 5: SSFC teachers integrate technology to enhance and extend learning beyond the classroom and connect our students to the global and Catholic communities, and other learning resources. create a professional development plan (with timeline) detailing specific PD opportunities that will support teachers as they integrate technology within the context of long- term goals. School leaders will provide technology support to teachers at the start of the year and during testing windows, and seek parish/parent volunteers to work as technology back- up personnel. develop a partnership with a Catholic school in another country for projects and learning. utilize students as trainers for teachers, staff, and parents during formal technology training sessions when appropriate. Teachers will create class blogs to be used to communicate curriculum plans, projects, pictures, video, etc. Desired Outcome 6: SSFC teachers and staff respond to parents' academic and technological concerns
3 through parent education and effective communication. locate existing online resources for parents, and post them to Jupiter Grades. They will also develop a FAQ for each grade level. develop a plan (with timeline) for events to educate parents about technology integration, and other innovative instructional strategies (e.g., PBL). The Technology Subcommittee will set up social media platforms for the school to utilize on an experimental basis. School leaders will schedule a series of parent training sessions to share with parents how students are using technology in the classroom, and how they may support their students technology use at home. Some of these may be webinars. Students will create online technology resources such as webinars and instructional YouTube videos through a technology PBL; these are shared with parents as educational tools. Desired Outcome 7: The SSFC community uses technology to be better stewards of our resources, and prepare students to succeed as Catholic citizens in the 21 st Century. The Technology Director will evaluate the wireless infrastructure to determine what updates are needed. The school community will continue to reduce the use of paper over the next three years consecutively. Desired Outcome 8: The SSFC community including teachers, administrators, and parents implements policy, process, and technology to keep children safe, and facilitates safe use of technology. develop a plan (with a timeline) for parent education about keeping children safe in digital spaces, and using technology for communication. School leaders will lead training for teachers so that teachers may assist students in finding strong passwords. Focus Area 3: Governance and Leadership
4 Desired Outcome 9: School leaders, teachers, and staff communicate via clear, consistent and accessible tools of which parents are aware, and for which they understand the uses. School leaders will explore uses of Jupiter Grades in order to use it to its highest effectiveness, and train parents and teachers. School leaders will set up a way for parents to anonymously communicate concerns or offer constructive suggestions. Wolf TV will be produced once again by students and displayed in classrooms so that all students in the school are informed about daily events. Desired Outcome 10: Communication is timely (e.g., forms, sign- ups or requests for parental consent are communicated more than a few days in advance of deadlines). School leaders and teachers communicate the uses for the school website, Jupiter Grades, and other communication modalities. All deadlines, fees and payment processes will be clearly articulated in a central location so that staff members are able to direct parents who have questions. Desired Outcome 11: Student, administrator, teacher, and staff growth and special accomplishments are celebrated on a yearly basis through various modes including, but not limited to, a whole- school Mass, announcement on the Wolf Report, and announcement on the school website. The NWEA coordinator with the assistance of school leaders and teachers will provide parents with an overview of the NWEA testing process, what the results mean and how teachers utilize the results to meet students needs. Desired Outcome 12: Parents are aware of and understand the general reasons for instructional,
5 curricular, and staffing decisions so that they feel confident that their children are receiving a 21 st - century education from highly qualified teachers and school leaders. develop a plan (with corresponding timeline) for how to communicate information about the most essential macro decisions that have been made at SSFC over the last two years. School leaders utilize more opportunities for informing parents about how staff members are supported through professional development opportunities, collaboration structures (PLC and co- planning time), and staff evaluation policies and procedures so they have full confidence that every SSFC teacher is highly qualified and effective. develop a plan (with corresponding timeline) for engaging parents in more meaningful ways in the decision- making process. School leaders and staff will develop a FAQ document for each grade level, including a link to the state curriculum standards. School leaders will develop a method for parents to ask questions about macro decisions that have been made or will be made at SSFC. Desired Outcome 13: Balance communication about academic success with those elements that make the school unique including faith- based and service learning.
