1 Role Economics and Legal Studies Teacher (Years 11 and 12) Terms Part-time permanent (0.6 FTE) Commencement Date 25 January 2016 Responsible to Humanities Learning Area Leader 7-12 About Loreto Loreto College is an independent Catholic Day and Boarding School for girls from Early Learning to Year 12. It is one of many schools throughout the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary IBVM (also known as the Loreto Sisters). To work in a Loreto school is to be part of a vibrant tradition reaching back to 1609 when Mary Ward established her first school for girls in Europe. A strong belief in the capacity and responsibility of women to contribute significantly to society and to the Church underlies the emphasis in Loreto s education tradition. This is based on Mary Ward s conviction that Women in time to come will do much. In 1905, Loreto in Adelaide opened in Sydenham Road at Norwood. The present site, The Acacias, on Portrush Road was opened in 1921 with 100 students. Today, there are some 700 students from Reception to Year 12 including 58 boarders. The Loreto Schools of Australia Mission Statement embodies this vision: Loreto schools offer a Catholic education which liberates, empowers and motivates students to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity in loving and responsible service. Loreto College is an authorised school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Program.
2 Position Overview The teaching staff s primary responsibility is to utilise appropriate teaching and assessment strategies which provides a learning environment that enables each girl to achieve her potential. Loreto's educational philosophy is centred upon a commitment to the development of each individual student, so that she may be someone who realises her potential academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Key Accountabilities Responsibilities and Expectations Key Performance Indicators Teaching Practice prepare and deliver a comprehensive learning program; evidence of detailed program documentation use a range of strategies to address students varying intellectual, emotional and physical abilities in teaching practice; identify individual learning needs and styles and plan learning experiences that inspire in students a love of learning; evidence of adoption of appropriate strategies evidence of specific learning experiences evidence of specific methodologies adopted provide teaching methodologies which support critical thinking and problem solving skills and facilitate independent learning; evidence of how ICT is embedded in teaching and learning through program documentation actively incorporate ICT in teaching and learning; develop and use appropriate evaluation and assessment strategies and procedures; participation in the College s co-curricular program evidence that assessment strategies used are in accordance with Assessment Policy evidence of participation in the co-curricular program for the required number of hours Administrative Responsibilities maintain accurate and up to date records of student assessment and progress; provide parents and students with detailed, accurate and informative written and oral reports at appropriate times, as required by the College; evidence of maintenance of student assessment records evidence of skill development in the delivery of written and oral reports use a variety of assessment and reporting methods to regularly monitor learning progress; evidence that assessment strategies used are in accordance with Assessment Policy provide students with positive feedback on performance that reinforces student achievement and focuses on improvement; be involved in relevant College activities at special events e.g. Mission Day, competitions, etc; evidence of regular feedback to students evidence of attendance and leading of events evidence of attendance attend relevant meetings and functions; evidence of compliance adhere to all College policies and procedures;
3 Pastoral Care assume responsibility and genuine interest for student welfare; evidence of pastorally caring for each student communicate effectively with all members of the year level group about students needs; evidence of participation and contribution at year level and pastoral care meetings engage in appropriate communication with parents to assist them in supporting their daughter s development and well-being; evidence of a range of communication strategies and examples of issues discussed structure learning so as to best accommodate individual student learning needs and the diversity of student backgrounds; evidence of reporting to parents on individual student learning needs being addressed Communication communicate effectively with all members of the year level/pastoral care team about student needs; evidence of a range of communication strategies and examples of issues discussed contribute to the activities of the faculty/team/year level; communicate effectively with colleagues; establish effective relationships with students; contribute, as appropriate, articles for the newsletter and other publications; evidence of contribution and responsibility taken for specific projects evidence of interpersonal skills in use evidence of publication of articles Continuous Learning engage in professional development opportunities or associations in relevant subject/year level areas which are external to the College; attend external curriculum forums and share the learning with faculty staff take responsibility for achieving challenging personal professional goals; engage in reflective reviews with your Line Manager; undertake reflective evaluation and goal setting to assist professional growth as a teacher; demonstrate commitment to your own ongoing professional learning; aim to strive for excellence through the use of reflective practices; evidence of participation in personal/professional initiatives Mission and Ethos incorporate Loreto s Mission Statement, its principles and values into teaching and learning programs and practices; evidence that programs reflect the values outlined in the Mission Statement role model Christian values in all dealings with students, staff and parents; evidence of how values are exhibited evidence of attendance

5 Person Specification Knowledge and Skills Required Demonstrated relevant contemporary curriculum knowledge A high level of competency in teaching Economics and Legal Studies in Years 11 and 12 Exemplary teaching practices, with proven classroom management practices An understanding of the ethos of a Catholic school and in particular, one that operates according to the charism of Mary Ward (Loreto) Personal Qualities Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, that can be used effectively with staff, students and parents Excellent interpersonal skills underpinned by the Loreto values Willingness to contribute to the co-curricula program Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience related to the teaching responsibility required by the position Be registered to teach in South Australia and hold a current South Australian Teacher s Registration Board Certificate Desirable Characteristics Knowledge and experience of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
