4 Floor gullies Installation guidelines 1. Where applicable, screw threaded pipework adaptor into the body outlet using a suitable sealant to ensure the joint is watertight. Finished floor level 6. Where applicable, dress the membrane over the flange and into the sump of the body, ensuring that the membrane does not restrict the outlet; bolt the membrane clamping collar to the body certain collars are reversible to increase height adjustability. Note In some cases the membrane clamping collar serves to connect the grating or cover to the body, so it must be fitted even where a membrane is not used. In installations without a below-floor membrane and/or using sheet floor covering such as vinyl, the membrane clamping collar should be sealed to the body using the supplied gasket and, where supplied, fibre washers beneath the screw heads. 2. Measure the distance between the top of the connecting pipework and finished floor level. 3. Check that this distance will enable the complete gully (with extensions, if applicable) to be installed with the top face of the grating or cover flush and level with the finished floor. Note Where a damp-proof membrane is used, the body must be installed with the top of the flange at or below membrane level. 7. Fit grating, cover, or funnel with extensions, frame or collar as applicable; set top face flush and level with the finished floor using height adjustability features. Use a suitable, good quality sealant on all threaded joints to ensure a watertight assembly. All joints need to be sealed to ensure that leaks do not occur in the event of water backing up in the gully, e.g. if a downstream pipe blockage occurs. The exception is gully assemblies specified with weepholes, which are designed to provide supplementary drainage from above the membrane; these weepholes should not generally be sealed. Level 4. Connect body (with threaded pipework adaptor if applicable) to pipework. 5. Infill as required. 8. Infill or lay floor screed and apply final floor finish (e.g. tiles, marble, paviors, terrazzo) around the grating or cover. Note Installation of gratings and covers for use with sheet floor covering, such as vinyl, is illustrated in a separate brochure. 4

9 Floor gullies Side inlets For typical installation illustrations, see pages 5 and 27 Side inlets in a gully permit the underfloor connection of pipes from fixtures such as sinks and wash basins, from drainage channels and from other gullies. Side inlets in Wade trapped gullies are located completely above the water level, except in G102, H102 and GD series where the inlets are partially below the water level. The illustrations represent typical gully bodies, viewed from above, and show the s for all possible combinations of locations. Unless otherwise requested, side inlets in cast iron gully bodies will be supplied as BSP female threads (specify thread ); stainless steel bodies have BSP female threads up to 2"; above 2", spigot inlets are supplied to suit BS 416 pipework. GP1104 plastic gully body has three side inlets moulded-in that will connect to 50mm plastic pipework; these inlets are usable by removing knock-outs from the body on site. 36 Roof outlets Installation guidelines The design of the layout of roof outlets should be in accordance with the recommendations given in BS EN 12056:3. Wade offers a range of roof outlets with versions for use with different types of roof construction (warm, cold, inverted, no fines screed) for installation in different types of deck (concrete, metal, wood) with different types of waterproofing membrane (mastic asphalt, built-up felt roofing, single ply), as shown on following pages. Cast iron bodies are available with medium sump or deep sump with choice of outlet and connection type, with polycarbonate dome or sherardized cast or ductile iron flat grating. Bodies with spigot outlet are for direct connection to pipework; versions with threaded outlet are for connection to pipework by means of a threaded pipework adaptor. Roof outlets should be placed at the roof low points to allow efficient flow of water to the outlets. Position body in roof deck and ensure outlet is accessible for pipework connection. 5. Install insulation Install body such that flange is flush or sub-flush with roof deck. Ensure body is fixed securely, either bonded or clamped to the deck if not cast-in. Use a suitable sealant on any threaded joints e.g. extension flange, to ensure a water-tight assembly. Note flange level is determined by roof build up. 6. Fit grating, apply finish Refer to membrane manufacturer s instructions. Prepare flange of body with suitable primer and apply membrane, dressing over flange and into sump of body. Position membrane clamping collar and secure to body using fixings supplied. Install any intermediate roof build-up (e.g. insulation) around outlets. Fit dome/grating using height adjustment where applicable to ensure grating is flush with roof finish. 42 Linear drainage Installation guidelines This is general information only, when installing in concrete; channel-specific instructions are supplied with the goods for use by the installer 1. Remove any gratings and clamping frames from channel. 2. Taking care not to twist, turn the channel upside down (base uppermost). 3. If there is more than one section to the channel, apply silicone sealant to jointing flange faces or fit rubber gaskets if supplied, and securely bolt sections together. 4. If connecting to a Wade gully, follow the instructions supplied. 8. lf not supplied, provide and insert spacer bars across channel at approx. 500mm centres. Spacer bars prevent channel being squeezed while backfill is being compacted and must not be removed until backfill is set. 9. Fix the channel into position by first grouting build-in ties and any adjustment legs firmly in place. 10. Taking care not to damage show surfaces, place heavy weights on top of the channel prior to pouring backfill to prevent any lift or movement. 11. Using concrete class C30/37 backfill around the channel ensuring that the concrete flows evenly under and around the channel such that no voids are formed. 5. Taking care not to twist, turn the channel the correct way up and lower it into the trench and into any installed gullies: ensure top edge of channel is flush with finished floor level, use the adjustment legs when supplied. 6. Bend the build-in ties as necessary. 7. Make the pipework joints below the channel. Note After positioning the channel it is recommended that a water test be undertaken to check that height is correct, that, where applicable the fall in the channel works effectively, that there are no leakages from the channel system and that there are no signs of deformation or damage to the channel which may have occured during installation. At this stage it may still be possible for any necessary rectification work to take place. Please consult our Technical Services Department if this situation arises. 12. Remove immediately any material which falls into the channel. 13. When concrete is set, remove spacer bars. 14. Fit gratings. 15. Clean channels and gratings with water and a suitable cleaning agent where necessary. Under no circumstances use metal scouring pads or wire wool as these will contaminate surfaces. Note Load classes given are based on channel being set in concrete class C30/37, to a level that fully supports the grating seat. For a lower load rating, lesser amounts and class of concrete may be suitable consult a structural engineer if advice is needed. 42

Drainage channels with perimeter angle frame The following additional notes/procedures apply: 1. The gap between the outside edge of the channel and the angle frame is covered with an adhesive tape to prevent debris filling up the gap during installation. Do not remove the tape until installation is complete. 2. When the channel is installed, lay the floor into the perimeter angle frame. 3. Once the floor is set, carefully remove the spacer bars between the angle frame and the channel using an angle grinder or similar. Note Do not remove the spacer bars before fitting the channel, as it would then be impossible to maintain the position of the frame relative to the channel. 4. Thoroughly clean the gap between the channel and angle frame, degrease and fill with a permanently elastic expansion joint sealant. 51 Non-freeze water points and interceptors Water Points provide an external water source for plant watering, area cleaning, vehicle wash down and similar activities. The product is designed to be installed with the valve seal located inside a building, whilst the on/off control mechanism and hose connections are outside; when the valve is turned off, water drains out from the unit so that freezing cannot occur. 52 Stainless steel grease converters Installation A Wade Actimatic Grease Converter provides a natural, safe and environmentally friendly means of permanently converting grease to bio-degradable products. Types of installation In powder or liquid form, Wade Actimatic is a bacterial product (not enzyme), which maintains a micro-biological culture within the grease converter to deal with kitchen effluent. Floor standing (standard and low profile models) Fully recessed in ground floor (standard invert models) Fully recessed in ground floor (deep invert models) Fully recessed in intermediate floor (hanger type) Installation guidelines Wade Actimatic Grease Converters are designed to be installed in existing or new kitchens, at restaurants, canteens, hotels, hospitals, etc., and also at commercial or industrial premises where food is cooked, prepared or processed. They are not suitable for use with dedicated chicken rotisserie ovens unless special housekeeping measures are taken, including the introduction of water. There is no optimum distance between the last fixture and the converter; it is generally accepted that pipework longer than 8 metres may allow grease to solidify before it reaches the converter. Waste disposal units may discharge into a grease converter, but this practice is not advisable because frequent cleaning out will be necessary. Waste from vegetable peelers must be filtered before discharging. Certain cleaning agents (Chlorine, strong caustics, bleach etc.) in concentrated form, have a detrimental effect, and should not be discharged into a grease converter. Installations may require prior approval from the Local Authority Environmental Health Department. Wade Actimatic Grease Converters satisfy current Building Regulations/Standards in the U.K., and meet requirements of drainage systems designed in accordance with BS EN : Threaded pipework adaptors for connecting to different types and s of pipework are shown on page 26. Note Do not reduce the stated inlet or outlet otherwise blockages could occur. Independent product assessment In 1989 Wade became the first manufacturer of grease converters to be awarded an Agrément Certificate. Grade 316 stainless steel Add suffix M to ; a plain cover is supplied with grade 316 versions, if anti-slip cover is required add suffix MAS (anti-slip cover grade 304). Note 6200 series models have covers with no dosing plug or rodding access. 52

Automatic dosing system A mains powered dispenser unit is available for use with Actimatic Liquid. The unit automatically doses the converter with diluted Actimatic Liquid once daily at a time selected by the user. The system, once set, requires only monthly attention to replenish the liquid supply, and is suitable for use in most new and existing drainage systems. A warning light and audible alarm indicates low level of liquid. N.B. In practice fixtures do not all discharge at the full rate simultaneously. This has been allowed for and the table enables the correct grease converter to be selected. In abnormally high or dump situations contact our Technical Services Department. 54 Materials and maintenance Materials and finish of Wade products, described below, are selected to provide lasting performance and to blend with surroundings. The products require the minimum of maintenance, but periodic inspection should be carried out to ensure absence of matter which could impede drainage. Measures set out below will sustain appearance and prolong service life. ABS Used for bodies, dip tubes, extensions and spigot adaptors. A cost effective material. Maximum continuous operating temperature of 75 C. Cast aluminium BS EN 1706 Used for parapet and channel gratings. An alloy chosen for its chemical resistance and durability. Cast iron BS EN 1561 Used for bodies, membrane clamping collars, spigot adaptors and accessories such as extensions. A widely used metal in the drainage industry, its resistance to corrosion permits extended use under extreme conditions. Castings are coated with a high grade lacquer paint applied by full immersion dip to provide internal and external surface coverage. Paint will gradually wear off and is replaceable; oxidisation (surface rusting) is a natural process which does not weaken the material. A zinc anti-corrosion coating is applied to certain castings by sherardizing. Ductile iron BS EN 1563 and BS EN 1564 Used only for gratings. A casting with the ductility of steel, yet with more than twice the tensile strength of cast iron. A zinc anti-corrosion coating is applied by sherardizing. Mild steel Used for adjustable bearing pans and raising tubes. A cost effective material to which a zinc anti-corrosion material is applied by galvanising or sherardizing. Nickel bronze BS EN 1982 Satin finish Used for gratings, covers and funnels. A cast alloy with a fine grain effect which blends well with most floor finishes. The satin finish is generally maintained by the slight abrasive action of passing traffic. In unused areas the material will gradually tarnish. To restore lustre, apply a plain nylon scouring pad (not soap-filled) in the direction of the grain. Note Avoid covering nickel bronze items with plastic sheeting after installation, otherwise blackening may occur. Nylon 6 Used for bottle trap and filter bucket. Chosen for its toughness and durability. Maximum continuous operating temperature of 180 C. Polished bronze BS EN 1982 Used for gratings, covers and funnels. A cast alloy suited for finished floors where the rich, bronze colour complements the decor. The mirror finish is produced by polishing. If left alone polished bronze will gradually tarnish. To restore lustre, use metal polish and buff with a cloth. The mirror finish must not be treated with any abrasive cleaning material otherwise the surface will be permanently scratched. Polycarbonate Used for roof outlet domes. A polycarbonate/abs blend which offers durability, high impact strength and long term resistance to ultraviolet light. Polypropylene Used for the removable trap in stainless steel gullies. Maximum continuous operating temperature of 100 C. PVC Used for roof outlet body versions for use with PVC single ply membranes. This material enables a waterproof joint to be produced on site. Stainless steel Austenitic grade 304 and 316 Used for bodies, gratings, funnels, access covers, filter buckets and fixings. A corrosion-resistant metal containing significant amounts of nickel and chromium; AISI grade 304 stainless steel is used as standard, which is suitable for general use in and around buildings including most coastal locations. In applications such as swimming pools or having an aggressive atmosphere, grade 316 is recommended and is available on request. An even higher grade may be required for applications in highly corrosive environments including where exposure to seawater may be anticipated. Clean with soap and warm water rinse and wipe dry. Gratings may also be cleaned in certain dishwashers. Under no circumstances treat with metal scouring pads, metal scrapers or wire wool as these will contaminate surfaces leaving rust spots. 54
