Setup Blink setup is easy, but please follow these steps in order. Now let s get started! Step 1: Installing the Blink App a) Download the Blink Home Monitor App by clicking here, or navigate to the App Store on your mobile device and search Blink Home Monitor. b) Launch the Blink App and tap on Create a New Account. Enter a valid address and create a password. Select Create Account. Tap Begin Setup and the App will proceed to Step 2 on the next page. 3
Step 2: Setting up the Sync Module Thanks to Blink s wire-free design, the Sync Module is the only part of the system that will need to be plugged in! a) Insert the larger end of the provided USB cable into the included power adapter. Insert the smaller end into the power port on your Sync Module. b) Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet within range of your home Wi- Fi network. Note: If feasible, please place the Sync Module near your router. c) Wait for the blue Wi-Fi light on the Sync Module to turn on and begin blinking. Once it begins blinking, proceed to Step 3 by tapping Continue. 4
Step 3: Connecting the Sync Module to Your Wi-Fi The Blink Sync Module uses your Wi-Fi network to communicate with your Blink camera(s) and the Blink servers so that you can control your system from anywhere. First, you will connect your mobile device to the Sync Module, and then you will use your mobile device to connect the Sync Module to your home Wi-Fi network. a) Press the home button on your mobile device to access your device s Settings. b) In Settings, select Wi-Fi. You will see an option for Blink-####. This 4-digit number corresponds to the last 4-digits of your Sync Module s serial number (found on the back of the case). c) Tap Blink-#### under Choose a Network and wait for it to connect. A will appear in the top left corner of your screen your mobile device is now connected to the Sync Module. See page 19 if Blink-#### does not appear in your list of Network options. 5
Step 3: Connecting the Sync Module to Your Wi-Fi (Continued) d) Return to the Blink App and tap Continue. See page 18 if your mobile device was unable to connect to the Sync Module. e) You will be directed to a list of Wi-Fi networks select your desired Wi-Fi and carefully enter the Wi-Fi network password. Tap Connect to WiFi. See page 19 or 20 if Wi-Fi connection fails. f) Congratulations! Your Sync Module is now connected to your Wi-Fi network! Tap Go to Blink and the App will proceed to its main screen so that you can begin adding your camera(s) (Step 4). 6
Step 4: Adding Your Camera(s) You will add your camera(s) one at a time. However, with Blink s simple setup and multi-camera compatibility, you can easily add cameras to your system at any point down the road should you choose to start with one or purchase more later. a) Tap the camera icon on the main screen of the App. You will be prompted to insert the batteries; to do so, remove the back cover of the camera by sliding the toggle located at the bottom to the left. Insert the two AA lithium batteries provided and the red light on the front of the camera will turn on. Tap Continue and proceed to part b. If the orange light does not turn on, the batteries may have been inserted incorrectly. Try again, making sure they are positioned correctly based on the case markings. b) On the following screen, enter the 9-digit serial number located in between the batterycompartments within the camera. Tap Continue and re-attach the back cover to the camera. 7
Step 5: Positioning Your Camera(s) Because Blink cameras are battery-powered, you have the flexibility to place and position them nearly anywhere within your home! Follow these steps to ensure that your camera(s) operates properly in your chosen location(s). a) Bring your camera to your desired location (keeping it within 100 ft of your Sync Module), and tap Signal Strength to see if both the Wi-Fi signal and the Sync Module signal have at least two bars in strength (three or more bars is ideal). Note: If Wi-Fi signal strength is low (one or two bars), please place your Blink camera closer to your router. If Sync Module signal strength is low (one or two bars), please place your Blink camera closer to your Sync Module. Tap Signal Strength again to verify that the signal strength has improved. b) Once you have found your location, tap to turn on the camera and get a preview of what it will be capturing. If you are happy with its placement, tap Done to exit Live View and then tap Continue. Note: Live View during setup is defaulted to mute. Tap to un-mute and watch Live View with audio. 8
Step 5: Positioning Your Camera(s) (Continued) c) Now please name your camera (e.g. Living Room, Front Door, etc.) and tap Continue. d) Tap to take a picture of your camera s view. This image will be displayed on the main screen of the App and can be updated at any time. Tap Continue once you are happy with your picture. e) Congratulations, your Blink system is now ready to start monitoring your home! Tap Return to Blink to start using your system. Note: Tap Add Another Camera and repeat steps 4 and 5 if you wish to setup your second camera now. 9
Use Blink allows you to arm your system, receive motion alerts, watch motion clips and Live View, adjust your settings, and save your recordings all directly from the Blink app. This way you can see, hear, and secure your home from wherever you are. 12 How to Arm and Disarm Your System By arming your system, you set the enabled camera(s) to detect motion and send motion alerts for further clarification, please see Figure 1 below. By disarming your system, you set all cameras to not detect motion however, the cameras can still be turned on at any time to use Live View. To arm and disarm your system: a) Simply slide the toggle on the bottom of the main screen to the right to arm it, and to the left to disarm it. If the system is armed and your camera is enabled, you will see a appear on the right above that camera s main screen image (see below). If the system is disarmed, no icon will appear. Note: Arming the system will arm all enabled cameras in your system see page 12 for how to enable. If the system is armed and the camera is disabled, a will appear instead of. Enabled Camera Disabled Camera Figure 1 Arm System Camera will detect motion and record clips Camera will not detect motion or record clips 11
How to Enable Your Camera(s) for Arming You must enable your camera(s) to set it to detect motion when the system is armed the camera(s) will only detect motion when it is enabled and the system is armed. By disabling your camera(s), you are preventing it from arming with the system so that it will not detect motion. To enable and disable your camera(s): a) On the main screen, tap the Settings icon ( ) to the left of the name of the camera you want to enable for system arming. b) In camera settings, slide the Enable toggle right to enable that camera for motion detection when the system is armed. Slide this toggle left to disable it and prevent it from detecting motion. 12
How to Access and Watch Motion Clips There are two ways you can access your motion clips: When you receive an alert on your mobile device, swipe right on the alert and you will automatically be directed to the motion clip in the Blink Home Monitor App. On the main screen of the App, select the clip list icon ( ) in the upper right-hand corner. The most recent clips will be located at the top of this list. Tap any clip you wish to view. Note: If there are unwatched clips in your clip list, this is noted with a blue dot (as shown above). Unwatched clips within the list are then marked with the same blue dot. 13
How to Access Blink s Live View There are two ways you can access Live View: Tap the button on the camera s picture on the main screen of the Blink App. While watching a motion clip (with your mobile device is in portrait mode), you can instantly switch to Live View by tapping on the bottom center of the screen. 14
How to Adjust Camera Settings You can adjust camera settings by selecting the Settings icon ( screen of the App. The settings you can adjust include: ) on the left-hand side of a camera s name on the main Delay controls the time between consecutive motion alerts (when motion is ongoing); this can be set to anywhere between 10 and 60 seconds. Sensitivity controls the sensitivity of the motion sensor; low sensitivity means it will not detect small changes in motion (i.e. from a pet), high sensitivity means it will detect nearly all motion. Clip Length controls the length of the motion clips recorded; this can be set to anywhere between 1 and 10 seconds. Illuminator Intensity controls the brightness of the LED illuminator used in night vision; can be set to Low, Medium, or High. Note: You can also set the Illuminator to Off (never turns on), On (is always on), or Auto (turns on automatically in low-light conditions). 15
How to Adjust Camera Settings - Continued Audio enable audio to turn on the microphone in the camera and record sound along with video. Note: The system does not offer audio detection and you will not receive audio-triggered alerts. Status tap Update to receive the latest temperature reading, Wi-Fi signal strength, Sync Module signal strength, and battery strength. Delete Camera tap Delete Camera if you wish to remove a camera from your system. Note: This will not remove the clips recorded by that camera from your clip list. You can re-add this camera at any time by resuming setup at Step 4 (page 7). 16
How to Position and Mount Your Camera(s) To ensure the best viewing angle and performance of your camera(s), follow these positioning and mounting tips: a) Make sure signals are strong in position mode, you can monitor your Wi-Fi and LFR signal strengths as you position your camera; make sure these are at four or five bars before mounting. You can also check signal strength at any time in the camera s settings. For how to access camera settings, see page 15. b) Use Live View to position your camera(s) this will allow you to quickly and more accurately position your camera to ensure you are seeing what you need in your field of view. c) Be sure motion crosses its view the motion sensor is best at detecting movement across its field of view as opposed to directly at or away from it. Note: To best guarantee reliable motion detection, we also recommend placing your camera at least 6 ft away from any microwave ovens, for these can interfere with the motion sensor when on. d) Mount it mount the camera directly to the wall or click the included mount into the back of the camera and use the included adhesive (or you can instead use screws) to secure its position. 17
Troubleshooting Oh shoot, you re having trouble the good news is that there is usually a simple solution! If you cannot find a solution here, please tap the curtain menu in the upper left-hand corner of the Blink App s main screen, and select Contact Customer Service for support. Sync Module Setup Issues 19 System Unable to Locate the Sync Module 20 Blink-#### Did Not Appear in Device s Wi-Fi Networks List 20 My Home Wi-Fi Did Not Appear in App s Networks List 21 Sync Module Unable to Connect to My Home Wi-Fi Camera Addition Issues 22 Camera Could Not Be Added Regular Use Issues 22 Camera Has Stopped Detecting Motion 24 No Longer Receiving Motion Alerts 25 Live View Is Not Working Customer Support Info 18
Sync Module Setup Issues System Unable to Locate the Sync Module You received an error that your system was unable to locate the Sync Module during setup. To resolve this issue, you will reset the Sync Module and resume the setup process. To reset the Sync Module: a) Leave the Sync Module plugged into the wall outlet. Insert a paper clip (or other similarly-sized tool) into the small hole in the back of the Sync Module (next to the USB port). Press the reset button until the green power light on the Sync Module turns off. Release the reset button. b) The blue will turn on. Wait approximately 30 seconds for the blue light to start blinking this means reset has completed. Resume setup at Step 3 (page 5). 19
Blink-#### Did Not Appear in Device s Wi-Fi Networks List a) Be patient sometimes it can take a minute to appear. Try refreshing your networks list to see if it becomes an option. b) If it still hasn t appeared, try switching your mobile device s Wi-Fi off and back on. c) If it still doesn t appear, reset your Sync Module (see System Unable to locate the Sync Module on page 18 for how). My Home Wi-Fi Did Not Appear in the Blink App s Networks List a) Close out of the Blink App. Unplug your router, wait 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. Re-open the Blink App, sign in using the account you previously created, and resume setup at Step 3 on page 5. If your home Wi-Fi still does not appear, proceed to part b. below. b) Close out of the Blink App and unplug your Sync Module. Re-open the Blink App and begin setup again, starting with Step 2 on page 4. This time, plug your Sync Module within 10 ft of your router. If your home Wi-Fi still does not appear, proceed to part c. below. c) The inability to still see your Wi-Fi network is most likely because it uses a 5 GHz band (we only accommodate 2.4 GHz). To resolve this, close out of the Blink App and contact your router manufacturer. Notify them that you would like to be able to use 2.4 GHz and they should walk you through the steps. Once resolved, re-open the Blink App, sign in using the account you previously created, and resume setup at Step 2 on page 4. 20
Sync Module Unable to Connect to My Home Wi-Fi You received an error that the Sync Module failed to connect to your Wi-Fi network. This is most likely due to a password mis-entry. To enter your Wi-Fi password again: a) Tap Continue and insert a paperclip (or other similarly-sized tool) into the small hole next to the power port on the Sync Module. Use the tool to hold down the reset button until the Sync Module begins blinking. Release the button and wait for the light to turn solid. b) You will now be prompted to resume setup, starting with Step 3 on page 5. Once you reach the password entry screen, be sure to enter your password carefully in order to proceed with setup. If you mis-enter your password again, re-start this process (beginning with part a. directly above). c) If connection is still unsuccessful, this may be due to an issue with your router. Close out of the app, unplug your router, wait 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. Re-open the Blink App, sign in using the account you previously created, and resume setup at Step 3 on page 5. If issue persists, please contact us and we will be happy to help! 21
Camera Addition Issues Camera Could Not Be Added To retry adding your camera, tap Cancel to return to the Blink App s main screen and repeat steps 4 and 5 (pages 7-9) of this guide (including re-inserting the batteries). As you go through these steps, please double-check the following: a) The batteries were correctly inserted the positive end should be facing downward on the left and upward on the right (as marked on the camera s case). b) You entered the camera s nine-digit serial number correctly. c) Your Sync Module is still plugged in and your Wi-Fi connection is still strong. Regular Use Issues Camera Has Stopped Detecting Motion There are a few different ways this could happen: a) Your system is disarmed. Simply slide the toggle on the main screen of the Blink App to the right to arm all enabled cameras motion sensors. b) The individual camera is disabled for motion detection. This is indicated by a above the camera s main screen image. To enable the camera for arming, select its Settings icon ( ) on the main screen and slide the Enable toggle to the right. 22
Camera Has Stopped Detecting Motion - Continued c) The camera s battery is dead. To check this, test the batteries in another device. If replacement is necessary, remove the back of the camera and insert two new AA lithium batteries. Note: It is very important that you use lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries are not suitable substitutes. d) Your Wi-Fi or home s power is down. To check this, try using your Wi-Fi on your mobile device or try switching the lights in your home off and back on. If your power is out, your system will automatically come back online once power is restored. If your Wi-Fi is down for several minutes, you may have to try unplugging your router, waiting 15 seconds, and then plugging it back in. e) The Sync Module can t communicate with our servers. If your camera is still not detecting motion after trying each of the above solutions, please follow the steps below to troubleshoot this problem: 1) Unplug the power cord of your Sync Module from the power outlet and then plug it back in. Wait 30 seconds for the light to stop blinking and turn solid, indicating that the Sync Module has booted. If the Sync Module successfully connects to our servers, both the Wi-Fi and power lights on the front of the Sync Module will turn on. Now try arming your system again by sliding the Arm toggle on the main screen of the Blink App to the right. If your system successfully arms, you are good to go. If the error remains, remove the AA batteries from each of your camera(s) and then insert them again. This will cause your camera(s) to reboot and can resolve many issues. 23
No Longer Receiving Motion Alerts This could happen for the following reasons: a) Your camera(s) has stopped detecting motion. See Camera Has Stopped Detecting Motion (pages 21-22) for reasons and solutions. 1) b) You turned off the push notifications on the Blink App. Select Settings on your mobile device, tap Notifications, select Blink Home Monitor, and slide the toggle right to Allow Notifications. c) Your mobile device may be set to not receive notifications. Check to see if your device is in Airplane or Do Not Disturb modes. Turn off these modes and you should receive all notifications that occurred. d) Your mobile device may have no service or data access. You will receive all notifications once you regain service and/or data. 24
Live View Is Not Working This could happen for the following reasons: a) Someone else in your account is currently accessing that same camera s Live View. The system only allows for one mobile device to use an individual camera s Live View at a time. 1) b) The camera s battery is dead. To check this, test the batteries in another device. If replacement is necessary, remove the back of the camera and insert two new AA lithium batteries. c) Your Wi-Fi or home s power is down. To check this, try using your Wi-Fi on your mobile device or try switching the lights in your home off and back on. If your power is out, your system will automatically come back online once power is restored. If your Wi-Fi is down for several minutes, you may have to try unplugging your router, waiting 15 seconds, and then plugging it back in. c) d) The Sync Module can t communicate with our servers. If your camera is still not detecting motion after trying each of the above solutions, please see part e. of Camera Has Stopped Detecting Motion (page 22) for how to troubleshoot this problem. 25
