1 Connecting to the Internet Connecting the Gateway to the Internet Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol Installing the USB Drivers Connecting Ethernet Network Devices Connecting USB Network Devices Connecting Wireless Network Devices Connecting Home Phoneline Network Devices Note: Before performing an installation of the DPR362, the following should be taken into consideration: The layout of the customer s home. Place the Gateway & Modem near an AC power outlet. Position the Gateway & Modem so that it is located near an existing cable input connection to eliminate the need for an additional cable outlet. There should be plenty of room to guide the cable away from the gateway without straining or crimping it. If planning to connect the Gateway & Modem to the home telephone wiring for home networking to other devices, choose a location close to a telephone jack. If planning to connect Ethernet cables, USB cables, or the home telephone wiring to the Gateway & Modem, run cables from the Gateway & Modem to these devices. Consider the distance from the Gateway & Modem to the other devices and connection points and the logistics for running the cables. If planning to use the Gateway & Modem for wireless devices, consider the line-of-sight distances between the Gateway & Modem and the wireless devices. The distance from the Gateway & Modem to the wireless devices should not exceed 100 feet. Choose a location that protects the modem from accidental disturbance or harm. Airflow around the Gateway & Modem should not be restricted. Connecting the Gateway to the Internet This section details the instructions for connecting the Scientific Atlantic Wireless Gateway & Modem to Time Warner Cable s coaxial cable line and to the computers in the customer s home. Note: Make sure that all the devices that are being worked with are powered down, including the PCs and the Gateway.

2 To install the Gateway & Modem, complete the following steps: 1. Power off all devices that are connecting to the Gateway & Modem and unplug them from all power sources. 2. Connect the devices being connecting to the Gateway & Modem to the correct port using the appropriate data cable(s). 3. Insert the AC power adapter cord into the DC power connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem, and plug the power adapter into an AC power source. 4. Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE IN connector on the back of the gateway. The Gateway & Modem will then begin an automatic search to locate and sign on to the broadband data network. Note: The CABLE indicator on the front panel stops blinking and illuminates continuously when the gateway is ready. 5. Plug in and power on the networked devices. 6. Configure the Internet devices for Internet access by choosing one of the following options: If using Ethernet connections on the customer s networking system, configure the TCP/IP protocol. Refer to Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol for step-by-step instructions. If USB is best suited for the customer s network, install the USB drivers. Refer to Installing the USB Drivers for step-by-step instructions. Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol The instructions in this section will help to configure each of the customer s computers to be able to communicate with the Gateway. To do this, the PC s network settings need to be configured to obtain an IP (or TCP/IP) address automatically (called DHCP). Computers use IP addresses to communicate with each other across a local network or the Internet. Follow these instructions to install the TCP/IP protocol on one of the PCs only after a network card has been successfully installed inside the PC. Note: Before installing the Gateway & Modem, either an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) with TCP/IP communications protocol, or a USB network interface installed on the system TCP/IP protocol in a Windows environment is needed.

3 Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol on Windows /98/98SE/ME To configure TCP/IP on Windows /98/98SE/ME, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Start button, select Settings, and choose Control Panel. 2. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Network icon. 3. Under the Configuration tab, read the list of installed network components to verify the PC contains the TCP/IP protocol. 4. Is TCP/IP protocol listed in the installed network components list? a. If yes, go to step 7. b. If no, click the Add button, click the Protocol button, click the Add button, and then go to step In the Manufacturers list, click Microsoft. 6. In the Network Protocols list, click TCP/IP, and then click the OK button. 7. Click the TCP/IP Ethernet Adapter protocol, and then choose Properties. 8. Click the IP Address tab, and then select Obtain an IP address automatically. 9. Click the Gateway tab and verify that these fields are empty. If they are not empty, highlight and delete all information from the fields. 10. Click the DNS Configuration tab, and then select Disable DNS. 11. Click the OK button. 12. When the system finishes copying the files, click the OK button and then close all networking windows. 13. When the System Settings Change dialog box opens, click the Yes button to restart the computer. The computer should restart. The TCP/IP protocol is now configured on the PC and the Ethernet devices are ready for use. 14. Try to access the Internet. Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol on Windows 2000 To configure TCP/IP on Windows 2000, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Start button, select Settings, and choose Network and Dial-up Connections.

4 2. In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, double-click the Local Area Connection icon. 3. In the Local Area Connection Status window, click the Properties button. 4. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click the Properties button. 5. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window select both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically; then, click the OK button. 6. When the Local Network window opens, click the Yes button to restart the computer. The computer should restart. The TCP/IP protocol is now configured on the PC and the Ethernet devices are ready for use. 7. Try to access the Internet. Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol on Windows XP To configure TCP/IP on Windows XP, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Start button, select Connect to, and choose Show all connections. 2. In the LAN or High-Speed Internet section of the Network Connections window, double-click the Local Area Connection icon. 3. In the Local Area Connection Status window, click the Properties button. 4. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click the Properties button. 5. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window select both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically; then, click the OK button. 6. When the Local Network window opens, click the Yes button to restart the computer. The computer should restart. The TCP/IP protocol is now configured on the PC and the Ethernet devices are ready for use. 7. Try to access the Internet. Configuration of TCP/IP Protocol on Macintosh To configure TCP/IP on Macintosh, complete the following steps:

5 1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder. Scroll down to Control Panels, and then click TCP/IP. 2. Click Edit on the Finder (gray bar) at the top of the screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu, and then click User Mode. 3. Click the Advanced button in the User Mode window, and then click the OK button. 4. Click the Up/Down selector arrows located to the right of the Connect Via section of the TCP/IP window, and then click Using DHCP Server. 5. Click Options in the TCP/IP window, and then click Active in the TCP/IP Options window. Note: In some cases, the Load only when needed option will not appear. If it appears, select the option. A check mark appears in the option. 6. Verify that the Use option located in the upper right-hand corner of the TCP/IP window is unchecked. If there is a check mark in the option, deselect the option, and then click Info in the lower left-hand corner. 7. Is there a Hardware Address listed in this window? a. If yes, click the OK button. To close the TCP/IP Control Panel window, click File, and then scroll down to click the Close button. This procedure is now complete. b. If no, power down the Macintosh. 8. With the power off, simultaneously press and hold down the Command (Apple), Option, P, and R keys on the keyboard. Keeping those keys pressed down, power on the Macintosh. The computer will start, and you will hear the Apple chime; do not release these keys. 9. Continue pressing these keys for up to three chimes, then release the keys and allow the computer to restart. 10. When the computer fully reboots, repeat steps 1 through 7 to verify that all TCP/IP settings are correct. If the computer still does not have a Hardware Address, contact the Tier III Support Desk or Apple technical support center for further assistance. Installing the USB Drivers Installing the USB Drivers on Windows 98SE and ME To install the USB Drivers on Windows 98SE and ME, complete the following steps:

6 1. Insert the USB Cable Modem Driver Installation Disk into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. 2. Wait until the Power and Cable indicators on the cable modem illuminate solid green. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens. 3. In the Add New Hardware Wizard window, click the Next button, select Search for the best driver for the device (Recommended), then click the Next button. 4. Select CD-ROM drive, and then click the Next button (recommended), and then click the Next button again. 5. Select The updated driver, then click the Next button. The Copying Files window opens. After 10 to 20 seconds have passed, the Add New Hardware Wizard window reopens. 6. Click Finish. The USB driver installation is complete. 7. In the System Settings Change window, click the Yes button to restart the computer. The computer restarts. The USB drivers are now installed on the PC and the USB devices are ready for use. 8. Try to access the Internet. Installing the USB Drivers on Windows 2000 To install the USB Drivers on Windows 2000, complete the following steps: 1. Insert the USB Cable Modem Driver Installation Disk into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. 2. Wait until the Power and Cable indicators on the cable modem illuminate solid green. 3. In the Found New Hardware Wizard window, click the Next button, then, select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), then click the Next button. 4. Select CD-ROM drives, and then click the Next button twice. The system searches for the driver file for the hardware device. 5. After the system finds the USB driver, the Digital Signature Not Found window opens displaying a confirmation message to continue the installation. 6. Click the Yes button to continue the installation. The Found New Hardware Wizard window reopens with a message that the installation is complete.

7 7. Click the Finish button to close the Found New Hardware Wizard window. The USB drivers are installed on the PC and the USB devices are ready for use. 8. Try to access the Internet. Installing the USB Drivers on Windows XP To install the USB Drivers on Windows XP, complete the following steps: 1. Insert the USB Cable Modem Driver Installation Disk into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. 2. Wait until the Power and Cable indicators on the cable modem illuminate solid green. 3. In the Found New Hardware Wizard window, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click the Next button. 4. Select Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM), and then click the Next button. 5. Click the Continue Anyway button to continue the installation. The Found New Hardware Wizard window reopens with a message that the installation has finished. 6. Click the Finish button to close the Found New Hardware Wizard window. Connecting Ethernet Network Devices The following diagram illustrates one of the various Ethernet network connection options available:

8 To connect Ethernet Network Devices, complete the following steps: 1. Select locations for Ethernet network devices. 2. Connect an Ethernet port on the Gateway & Modem to the PC. 3. Connect additional Ethernet network devices using the other Ethernet ports on the Gateway & Modem, or by connecting an Ethernet hub or router to the Gateway & Modem. 4. Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE IN connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem. Note: Use an optional cable signal splitter to add a TV, a DHCT or set-top converter, or a VCR. 5. After all connections are complete, insert the AC power adapter cord into the DC power connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem, and then plug the power adapter into an AC power source. 6. The Gateway & Modem begins an automatic search to locate and sign on to the network. Note: This process may take up to 5 minutes. The Gateway & Modem is ready for use when the CABLE status indicator on the front panel stops blinking and illuminates continuously. 7. Verify that all Ethernet network devices are working properly. Note: The Ethernet front panel status indicators on the Gateway & Modem will not be able to be checked until after two or more Ethernet network devices are connected to the Gateway & Modem.

9 Connecting USB Network Devices The following are requirements for USB Network Devices: How Many USB Devices Can I Connect? The Gateway & Modem can support numerous USB network devices using a USB hub that must be purchased separately. Contact the cable service provider for more information on the maximum number of USB network devices to connect to the Gateway & Modem in order to maintain optimal network performance. What are the Wiring Requirements? Several factors can impact the practical limit of the network. Use correct USB cables. Do I Need to Install USB Drivers on My Computer? To use USB network devices, you must have the correct USB drivers install on the PC. You can use a large variety of USB network devices with the Gateway & Modem. These include desktop computers, laptop computers, devices with USB ports, USB adapters. What is the Best Location for My USB Network Devices? Consider the following recommendations: Location of two-way coaxial cable outlets. Distance of the USB network devices from the Gateway & Modem. Location of computers and other equipment from AC power outlets. Ease of running USB cable to the USB network devices. The following diagram illustrates one of the various USB network connection options available:

10 To connect USB Network Devices, complete the following steps: 1. Select locations for USB network devices. 2. Connect the USB port on the Gateway & Modem to the computer. 3. Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE IN connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem. Note: Use an optional cable signal splitter to add a TV, a DHCT or set-top converter, or a VCR. 4. After all connections are complete, insert the AC power adapter cord into the DC power connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem, and then plug the power adapter into an AC power source. 5. The Gateway & Modem begins an automatic search to locate and sign on to the network that provides the telephone service. Note: This process may take up to 5 minutes. The Gateway & Modem is ready for use when the CABLE status indicator on the front panel stops blinking and illuminates continuously. 6. Verify that all USB devices are working properly. Note: The USB front panel status indicators on the Gateway & Modem will not be able to be checked until after one USB network devices is connected and operating on the network. Connecting Wireless Network Devices The following are requirements for Wireless Network Devices:

11 How Many Wireless Devices Can Connect? The Gateway & Modem serves as a wireless access point (WAP). The WAP on the Gateway & Modem provides wireless network service to multiple wireless network devices. What are the Requirements for Wireless Networking? It is important to view the characteristics of the entire network and not just each individual node. The theoretical distance between wireless network devices is 100 feet inside of a building, and 300 feet outdoors. A number of factors can impact the practical limit of the network. What s the Best Location for the Wireless Network Devices? Distance from the Gateway & Modem to the wireless network devices. Do not place the Gateway & Modem near metallic surfaces that may block the wireless communications path. Note: Wireless communication is line-of-sight through non-metallic walls. However, the more structures (walls) the signal must pass through, the weaker the received signal. Do not place wireless network devices near a microwave oven. Microwave ovens can occasionally interfere with wireless transmissions. The following diagram illustrates one of the various Wireless network connection options available: To connect Wireless Network Devices, complete the following steps:

12 1. Select locations for wireless network devices. 2. Connect and install the wireless network device(s). 3. Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE IN connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem. Note: Use an optional cable signal splitter to add a TV, a DHCT or set-top converter, or a VCR. 4. After all connections are complete, insert the AC power adapter cord into the DC power connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem, and then plug the power adapter into an AC power source. Note: Some cordless telephones can interfere with wireless signals. Unplug and disconnect any cordless phones until the wireless network is operating properly. 5. The Gateway & Modem begins an automatic search to locate and sign on to the network that provides the telephone service. Note: This process may take up to 5 minutes. The Gateway & Modem is ready for use when the CABLE status indicator on the front panel stops blinking and illuminates continuously. 6. Verify that all wireless network devices are working properly. Note: The Wireless front panel status indicators on the Gateway & Modem will not be able to be checked until after one or more Wireless network devices are communicating with the Gateway & Modem. Connecting Home Phoneline Network Devices The following are requirements for Home Phoneline Devices: How Many HPNA Devices can be Connected? The RJ-11 telephone-style HPNA connection on the Gateway & Modem can provide home networking service to multiple HPNA devices when properly connected to the telephone wiring. The theoretical maximum number of devices supported is 253. However, under normal circumstances, the number of devices connected should be a much lower number refer to your division s guidelines. What are the Telephone Wiring Requirements?

13 The Gateway & Modem is designed to support interior telephone wiring. It is important to view the characteristics of the entire network and not just each individual node. The maximum recommended distance between any two nodes is 1000 feet, and the maximum recommended length of the entire network is 1000 feet. The theoretical maximum number of nodes is 25. Use 26-gauge twisted-pair, or larger, telephone wiring. A number of factors can impact the practical limit of the network. Home phoneline networking is also known as HPNA. HPNA service allows all the components of a home network to interact over the home s existing telephone wiring without disturbing the existing voice or fax services. Note: This section does not provide all of the information required to install specific HPNA devices, but instead provides a general overview. For specifics, please consult the documentation provided by the manufacturer of the HPNA device(s). How do I Select a HPNA Device? You can use a large variety of HPNA devices with the Gateway & Modem. These include NIC cards, USB adapters, routers, and bridges. On the HPNA network, all devices impact the characteristics of the network because each device requires a certain amount of bandwidth to operate. What s the Best Location for the HPNA Devices? Work with the cable service provider to choose the best location for the HPNA devices. Consider the following recommendations: Not all homes are wired the same. It is very important to ensure that the wall telephone jack is wired and functioning correctly to support a HPNAcertified device. Test the telephone wiring using a simple phone line tester available at a variety of retailers. All HPNA devices must be connected to a single telephone line. Some home have more than one telephone line for a fax machine or a second voice line. The phone line used does not have to be an active telephone line with a telephone number. A spare telephone wiring pair may be used, however, all HPNA devices must be connected to the same telephone wiring pair. The following diagram illustrates one of the various Home Phoneline network connection options available:

14 To connect Home Phoneline Network Devices, complete the following steps: 1. Select locations for the HPNA devices. 2. Connect the HPNA port on the Gateway & Modem to the wall telephone jack. 3. Connect the HPNA device(s). 4. Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE IN connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem. Note: Use an optional cable signal splitter to add a TV, a DHCT or set-top converter, or a VCR. 5. After all connections are complete, insert the AC power adapter cord into the DC power connector on the back of the Gateway & Modem, and then plug the power adapter into an AC power source. 6. The Gateway & Modem begins an automatic search to locate and sign on to the network that provides the telephone service. Note: This process may take up to 5 minutes.
