2 ABOUT SEAANZ: SEAANZ is on the cusp of exciting times. With the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) Conference in Melbourne in 2006, a regional conference in Armidale, NSW in 2005 and this year the prospect of another successful Brisbane event, members should be encouraged by the long-term commitment by the Association to event planning. SEAANZ is also sharpening its focus on providing conferences to suit all four of its small and medium enterprise (SME) constituencies researchers, policy makers, facilitators and educators. In Brisbane, in addition to a strong research paper strand, the John Bailey Award for enterprise facilitation will be presented, best practice in entrepreneurial teaching will be addressed and there will be an SME policy forum. The scene will be set by Ivan Deveson AO, a national identity and business commentator serving on the boards of a number of growing SME gazelles. Not only will the conference be great value but of course the weather and Queensland hospitality will be an added bonus. SEAANZ was founded in 1987 with the aim of bringing together professionals in practice, education and training to promote communication and dissemination of research, ideas and information. The objectives of the Association are to advance the development and understanding of small enterprise. SEAANZ is Australasia s leading small enterprise association of professionals in practice, education, training and government. PURPOSE OF CONFERENCE: The conference is aimed at both academics and practitioners and will address SME research, policy and outcomes in the local, national and international context. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: The conference is aimed at academics, as well as small business practitioners. Those who work in the venture capital fi eld will also gain benefi t from attending the conference. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Ivan worked with General Motors in Australia, USA, Europe and Africa, Nissan Australia and the Seven Network. Ivan was named Victorian of the Year in 1991 and received an Order of Australia in the same year for service to the automotive industry and to business. Per Davidsson Per Davidsson is currently Professor of Business Administration/Entrepreneurship at Jonkoping International Business School in Sweden and will soon join the academic ranks at QUT. He also leads a major longitudinal research program, called The JIBS Program on Entrepreneurship and Growth in SMEs (PEG). Per is known for his extensive research on start-up and growth of small fi rms as well as the job creation and societal wellbeing effects of those activities. SEAANZ 2004 Cancellation Policy REGISTRATIONS Registration cancellations will not be accepted unless made in writing to the conference secretariat, either by mail, fax or . Cancellations received four weeks (27/08/04) prior to the event will be refunded less a $100 administration charge. No registration refunds will be made after this date other than in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the organisers. Student passes are non-refundable in the event of cancellation less than two weeks (10/9/04) prior to the event.
