1 Field Data workflows with Collector for ArcGIS Workshop Fall NEARC 2105 In this workshop, you will learn how to use Collector for ArcGIS to capture locations, information, and photos of assets inside and around the conference facility. An ArcGIS Online Organization has been provisioned for use with the workshop, and your instructor will give you an identity to use for the workshop. This account will remain active for 5 days after the conference, then will be deleted. Your instructor will show you the process of creating a geodatabase and map document, publishing a feature layer, and creating/sharing a web map. An overview of using Collector will follow, and this guide will serve as a reference for you while you collect assets. You can split into teams, share a device, or go solo. After, we will review the results in an Operational Dashboard. The agenda for this exercise include the following: Review: Create a geodatabase for data collection. Review: Publish a feature layer from ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. Review: Create a web map for use in Collector. Review: Quick tutorial on using Collector in Online mode. Review: Quick tutorial on using Collector in Offline mode. Exercise: Collect assets in and around the hotel using Collector. Review: Examine the results in an Operations Dashboard. Wrap: Questions & Answers Review the process of setting up the feature service, and web map with your instructor. Review the use of Collector with your instructor.

2 Install Collector for ArcGIS, and log in to the Workshop Organization. From your device, go to the appropriate app store (App Store for ios devices, or the Google Play Store for Android). 3 Select Open to start Collector. Your instructor will provide you with a login and a password for the ArcGIS Online Workshop. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 3 of 22

7 You may see some assets already collected. Slide the panel on the right side open by swiping it to the left. You have been assigned to a virtual team as shown by the subtype on the map features. To create a new asset, tap the team badge. These teams are named after 5 Premier League Football clubs. Sorry Tottenham fans! Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 7 of 22

8 Fill out the form with information about what you are collecting. For example, Asset_Type will present you with a list of assets like chairs, desks, plants, etc. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 8 of 22

9 After selecting a value, use the Done button to move to the next field. Some fields have lists, others, like Asset_Desc, require you to type in something. Tap a location on the map to place the asset. If you do not like the location, you can tap another location to change it. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 9 of 22

10 Tap the camera icon to take a picture. Tap Add. If you have pictures on your device, you can use them, or you can take a new photo. After taking the photo, tap Use Photo, or Retake to try again. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 10 of 22

12 If you want, try switching basemaps to something like the Imagery basemap, by tapping the Basemap button. You can always switch it back, if you find the World Topo Map more useful. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 12 of 22

13 Collect more assets. Wander around the hotel, take some pictures. Take a video, if you want! When using your photo app, put it into video mode instead. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 13 of 22

14 Workflow: Offline collection Tap Maps to return to the map list. Locate your workshop map. Tap the download button. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 14 of 22

15 You now will select an area for your work that will encompass the hotel and the surrounding buildings. Zoom out by pinching in on the map. Tap Map Detail, zoom in as close as you like. This will be the largest scale downloaded to the device. Zoom in by pinching out on the map. Now select Download. 16 Tap On Device, to show only the maps that are locally on your device. Select your map. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 16 of 22

17 Note now that the basemap ends at the extent you specified, and when you zoom in, you can only go as far as the detail scale you specified. Now, regardless of your connectivity status, you can collect features. Go ahead and collect a feature like before. When you select Submit, you will get a message that the feature is being stored on the device. Collect a few more. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 17 of 22

18 Tap Maps when you are finished. Note how the download icon now has arrows in both directions, and notes a feature count. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 18 of 22

19 When you are back in connectivity range, you can tap that icon to sync the data up to your portal. You will get a message as to the sync progress. 20 Learn how to delete the map from your device. Tap the options button and select Manage. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 20 of 22

21 Tap Remove to take the map off your device. This will not affect the online web map, only the temporary copy you created to go out and collect data offline. You can optionally keep the basemap, and only delete the offline features. Note how the map is gone, but if you tap Basemaps, you see the downloaded tiles are still there for you use later. Tap Done, then tap All to see that your online map is still there. If you were to tap the download button again, you would now have an option to re-use the downloaded portion of the basemap. This can be a timesaver, if you plan on revisiting this area again, but it does take up space on your device. Introduction to Using ArcGIS Web Application Templates Page 21 of 22

22 Workshop End, Q&A. In this workshop, you learned how to set up a service to use with Collector, and publish a web map. You then used Collector to consume the web map in both an online and offline mode. Then you viewed the results in an Operations Dashboard.
