4 Mayor s Preschool Message & Children s Programs Stay active this season! Welcome Welcome to the Resort Municipality of Whistler s (RMOW) Recreation Program Guide. We are fortunate to live in Whistler, an active community with a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The fall is a beautiful time in our community, with fresh mountain air, crystal clear lakes, beautiful fall colours and abundant activities such as worldclass golf, hiking and mountain biking. This fall/winter guide provides a wide range of activities for all interests, ages and abilities. From preschool programming to tai chi, swimming, skating, squash, cross-country skiing, and hockey, there is something for everyone. One of the things that drew me to Whistler was the yearround recreational opportunities. In the fall and winter, I run and walk with our dog frequently through the Emerald Forest to the Valley Trail and on to Rainbow Park. Early fall hikes with friends and family along the Flank Trail are a personal favourite. Whistler features two majestic mountains for epic winter skiing and snowboarding; cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails; and an outdoor skating rink located right in the heart of the Village. In the winter, I personally enjoy downhill and crosscountry skiing, snowshoeing and an occasional spin on the new ice sheet in Whistler Olympic Plaza. I encourage you to get outdoors and explore the Lost Lake cross-country trails and experience winter in Whistler from an entirely different perspective. With approximately 25 kilometres of groomed and track set trails, maintained by the municipality, Lost Lake offers incredible views of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Enjoy the new amenities with family and friends at the Lost Lake PassivHaus and have fun on the trails! If you re looking for a quick outdoor activity right in the heart of the Village, why not rent some skates and hit the ice at Whistler Olympic Plaza? In 2011, the RMOW transformed part of Whistler Olympic Plaza s Great Lawn and Pavilion into a skating amenity for the winter season. Visitors and residents loved it and in 2011, we welcomed close to 15,000 skaters to the plaza. If you re looking for a break from the outdoors, visit the Meadow Park Sports Centre (MPSC), Whistler s community hub for sports, recreation and more. The multipurpose facility provides residents and visitors with a services and amenities including fitness programs, swimming lessons, public skating, a six-lane pool, kids pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The facility also houses an arena, squash courts, weight room, and a fitness studio. After thirty-nine years of living in Whistler, I continue to be grateful for all the great things there are to do here. Stay active this season and I ll see you on the trails! 4 Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden Toll Free Municipal Hall, 4325 Blackcomb Way, Whistler, BC, VON 1B4
