2 Trolleybus transport in Gdynia On 18th September 1943 the first trolleybus line was opened in Gdynia. It connected the Municipal Council building in the city centre and the railway station in Chylonia. The trolleybus system was operating regularly during the war and no earlier than in 1945 operation ceased as a result of the struggle for liberation. After II World War first post-war route was opened on 19th March Until the present time we can distinguish the following periods: 1.Period of creation and reconstruction after war ( ) 2.Period of dynamic development ( ) 3.Period of stagnation and regression ( ) 4.Second period of dynamic development ( ) the year when the trolleybus system became independent (creation of the company Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej ) Gdynia, Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej Sp. z

3 The company Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej Until 31st December 1997 the trolleybus transport system was a part of big bus-trolleybus company Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Miejskiej. Establishment of Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej on 1st January 1998 was an important stage of reconstructing of mass urban transport in Gdynia. Actually PKT has 85 trolleybuses operated on 12 lines, about 10 technical vehicles, and 41,2 km length of the traction. Annual work is less than 5 million km. 5 The project entitled Development of pro-ecological public transport in Gdynia Based on the programme for public transport for years the project entitled Development of pro-ecological public transport in Gdynia was created. It was assumed that it would be co-founded in 50% from the EU Integrated Regional Development Operational Programme. Tasks for the period of in the project: - building a new trolleybus depot in Grabówek area along with a covered car park for 90 trolleybuses - opening 10,6 km of new trolleybus routes to Dąbrowa, Dąbrówka, Kacze Buki and a route along Zakręt do Oksywia to the new depot - building a new trolleybus loop in Kacze Buki - purchasing 10 low floor trolleybuses Gdynia, Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej Sp. z

10 The second project - Development of pro-ecological public transport in Tricity Metropolitan Area The same as before, during first project co-financed by EU, the second project was based on the programme for public transport for years The project entitled Development of pro-ecological public transport in Tricity Metropolitan Area was co-founded in 70% from the European Regional Development Fund as a part of the Regional Operational Programme for Pomorskie Voivodship. Total value of the project was over 98 mln złoty. Main objective of the project was to: - modernize the traction network along Zwycięstwa Street in Gdynia and Niepodległości Street in Sopot with the loop in Reja Street - construct 4 new substations, modernize 5 existing traction substations, build a susbstation remote control centre - purchase 25 new loow floor trolleybuses Gdynia, Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej Sp. z
