3 Learning Objectives The Endocrine Nurses Society Symposium s educational sessions and workshops will include the most current national guidelines impacting endocrine nursing practice. Professional development is a major focus of our society and the annual symposium. The Endocrine Nurses Society is a collective of nursing experts and novices in adult endocrine practice thus enabling efficient and effective networking. By the Conclusion of the 2016 Symposium: At the conclusion of the educational activity, attendees will be able to explain: 1. The clinical issues related to sub-clinical hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. 2. The clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of hypopituitarism after traumatic brain injury (TBI). 3. The ovulation induction strategies for an anovulatory PCOS woman, diagnostic testing of azoospermia in a male, and adverse implications of female obesity on reproduction. 4. The recent advances in knowledge and therapies pertinent to endocrine nurses, discuss the endocrine nurse s role in research, and explore potential nurse-initiated inquiry and research. 5. The performance of the bionic pancreas in outpatients, home use studies and recognize the steps that remain in demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of a bionic pancreas. At the conclusion of these workshops, attendees will be able to explain: 1. The difference between primary and secondary osteoporosis, identify risk factors and describe appropriate therapies. 2. The management issues that can facilitate self-care for persons with complex treatment regimens for Type 2 Diabetes. 3. The management strategies and resources available for persons with endocrine disorders who are uninsured or underinsured. 4. The risks and benefits of insulin tolerance testing and a method of monitoring and mitigating the risk of hypoglycemia. Accreditation: The American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation accredits AKH, Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare, as a provider of continuing nursing education. AKH, Inc. has approved this activity for 6 contact hours. ( Disclosure Policy: The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Standards for Commercial Support mandate the disclosure of conflicts of interest by those in a position to control content in a certified continuing educational activity (CME/CE).
