Elect an IGR (Intergroup Representative). Suggested length of service: one year Who can serve: Any Al-Anon member who is not also a member of AA or is not currently serving as an IGR for another group. All new IGRs need to register with the Al-Anon office. Greetings, MESSAGES FROM YOUR BOARD Your San Diego Al-Anon Intergroup Board has been hard at work this summer. There have been a few changes of which we would like you to be aware. For one, the Spanish Liaison position is temporarily being placed on hold and we will cease communicating a need to fill that position while we amend the By- Laws to include a listing and job description for this position. Last year, a By-Laws committee was formed to suggest revisions for the current By-Laws and needed to pause their work due to financial constraints. The main concern was mailing costs. This year, we have asked this committee to resume their hard work so that we can see this project through. The Intergroup office is continuing its plea for financial support from our Al-Anon groups. Most of our income comes from literature sales and group contributions. It is vital to keep this office financially capable to carry on its mission. Our local office serves as an educational

2 resource to anyone seeking help in the solution of problems connected with alcoholism in a loved one. It also serves as the communications center for the member Groups with respect to matters of local district policy and public information. I thank all of you for your continued support! The office was open 20 days in June for a total of 120 hours. Volunteers covered hours during the month. The Keep it Simple group will be providing refreshments and we ask that they be delivered between 6-6:30 p.m. The location is the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center, 8450 La Mesa Blvd. at University. August 9: 9 We would love for you to join us at our San Carlos Serenity Al-Anon monthly speaker meeting (second Friday of each month) from 7-8:30 p.m. Babysitting is provided. The meeting will be located at the United Methodist Church, 6554 Cowles Mountain Blvd., Room 101, San Carlos, (corner of Navajo Road and Cowles Mountain Blvd.) August 10: The 2014 Spring Round Up committee will have its first meeting at 1 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 2696 Melbourne Drive (near Qualcomm). Committee chairs and co-chairs are needed.

4 August 10: District 69 All About Al-Anon Speaker Series, with speaker Truck, who is currently serving as the Chairperson for SCWS. 7-8:30 p.m. Carlsbad Senior Center, 799 Pine Ave. August 12: Search 4 Peace AFG monthly speaker meeting with Anne J. as the speaker. 7 8 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 6801 Easton Court, San Diego (Allied Gardens). August 20: Everyone is invited to the Downtown Lunch Bunch's 26th anniversary celebration at the First Lutheran Church, 1420 Third Ave. (at Ash; park in unmarked spots). A potluck will be held at 11:30 am, followed by a speaker's meeting at noon. Featured speaker is Alan K. ** SAVE THE DATE!** September 21: Al-Anon Spring Round-Up Ice Cream Social, presented by the Round-Up committee. In addition to ice cream with all the fixins there will be a speaker and a raffle. Raffle items needed include Conference Approved Literature, plants and gently used gifts. 50 s attire option at this event, which will be at St. Dunstan s Episcopal Church, 6556 Park Ridge Blvd. at a time TBA. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door and $5 for children under 10. October 5: District 75 & 72 are hosting the Annual Fall Workshop. This will be in the morning at St. Dunstan s Episcopal Church in San Diego. More information will be following soon! ***Spanish News**** ***ANNOUNCEMENTS*** Service Board nominations! Service Board nominations are out (see attached notice) and there are six positions to be filled. Members are elected to the board first and then given a service position, as opposed to being elected to a specific position. A full description of all the service board positions can be found at AlanonSanDiego.org and clicking on Being of Service, then Service Beyond the Group Level and then Service Board Duties. Time commitments include a meeting once a month, with additional time commitments that vary based on the position. Meeting needs support! Thursday night University Heights meeting needs your support: Working the Program; Steps, Traditions and sharing. Every week we study the Step or Tradition of the month or discuss topics from the Blueprint for Progress. All are welcome. 5 Phoenix House in Descanso has requested an Alateen meeting be brought to their facility on Sundays from 7-8 p.m. Phoenix House ( is a group home and drug rehabilitation facility for young people. They know Alateen and feel it would be of great benefit to their residents. This facility is a ranch style setting about thirty minutes east of El Cajon. We need several AMIAS (Alateen Members Involved in Alateen Service) to help us carry the message. We will most likely create a rotating team of sponsors for this location, so you can commit to what fits your schedule. If you are new to Alateen sponsorship, don t worry. We will start you out with seasoned sponsors to help show you the ropes. Double winners are eligible and encouraged for this service. You won t regret it! You do have to be a certified Alateen sponsor with Al-Anon. DISTRICT 69 NEWS ***DISTRICT NEWS** (Secretaries/GRs PLEASE read!): DISTRICT 72 NEWS: : (East & South County) Come join us as a Group Representative (GR) or Visitor at our new meeting location! We are now at the Atonement Lutheran Church, Loma Rancho Drive, Spring Valley. Our District meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. We will have light refreshments at our meetings. DISTRICT 75 NEWS Note: Total checking/savings includes $10,000 reserve.
