5 Les Articles définis et indéfinis I. Definite articles. In French, the definite articles are used to refer to something specific. There are four different forms of the definite article: le, la, l and les (the) Masculine singular: le bureau the desk Feminine singular : la chaise the chair Masculine or feminine singular before a vowel: l élève (m) the student l école (f) the school Masculine or feminine plural: les élèves (m) les chaises (f) the students the chairs II. Indefinite articles. In French, the indefinite articles are used to refer to something general. 7 The BAGS Adjectives 1. Most adjectives come after the noun in French. Example : La maison blanche (the white house) noun adjective The BAGS adjectives are an exception to this rule. Example : La jolie fille (the pretty girl) adjective noun 2. ALL adjectives must agree with the nouns they describe in number and gender.
