1 Key Vocabulary for Year 6 French This is a list of the key vocabulary that will be covered over the course of the year. As language learning is a cumulative process there may be some minor differences between this list and the vocabulary covered in class. For example, in some topics, the list of words may be shortened or extra words may be added, depending on the ability of each group. Descriptions J ai les yeux... 6 Agreement and position of adjectives Agreement Adjectives need to agree in number and gender with the thing(s) they describe. If the object is feminine (e.g. starts with la or une ) you usually add an e to the end of the adjective. e.g. un garage bleu = a blue garage une chambre bleue = a blue bedroom Position of adjectives Adjectives of size such as grand = big and petit = small go before the object they describe, and other adjectives such as colours go after the object. e.g. une grande salle à manger = a big dining room une salle à manger verte = a green dining room un petit jardin = a small garden un jardin vert = a green garden The weather Quel temps fait-il aujourd hui? What is the weather like today? il fait chaud il fait froid il fait beau il fait mauvais il pleut il neige il y a du brouillard il y a des orages it is hot it is cold it is good weather it is bad weather it is raining it is snowing it is foggy it is stormy 6
