TERM ONE Introductory project: Why learn a foreign language? UNIT 1: Bonjour! Greetings, say your name and ask someone their name. Ask how someone is and say how you are. Numbers to 20. Ask and say age. Understand simple classroom instructions and build up classroom vocabulary. Use a dictionary effectively. UNIT 2: J habite ici Find out about La Rochelle. Say where you live and ask someone where they live. Compass points. UNIT 3: Chez moi Family. Days. Rooms in a house. Say where things are. Numbers to 20. Introduction to masculine and feminine nouns and plurals. Use à or en to say in for towns and countries. Possessive adjectives: mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses. Definite articles: le, la, l, les. Prepositions, être (to be). TERM TWO Numbers to 79. UNIT 4: Les animaux Pets. Describe pets. Talk about your likes, dislikes and preferences. French alphabet. Revision of Units 1-4. Full assessment (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Avoir: to have. Adjectives: colours, size. Ask questions, how to say you appropriately.

Numbers to 100. TERM FOUR Telephone numbers. Hobbies and sports. UNIT 7: Une ville en France Buildings in a town. Ask for information at a tourist office. TERM FIVE Ask and understand directions. Say where places are and how far away they are. Revision of Units 5-7. Full assessment (listening, speaking, reading and writing). UNIT 8: Une journée scolaire Ask and understand the time. Understand and talk about a typical day. TERM SIX French school life. School subjects and opinions of subjects. UNIT 9: Un repas typique Food and drink. Give opinions of food and drink. Find out about French food and meals. Breakfast. Être: to be. Plurals of nouns and adjectives, word order. Regular er verbs (jouer). Negatives. Prepositions: au, à la, à l, aux. Aller: to go. Present tense reflexive verbs. Manger: to eat, commencer: to begin. Adjectives and adjectival agreement. Possessive adjectives: son, sa, ses, notre, nos, votre, vos, leur, leurs. Partitive articles: du, de la, de l, des (some). Prendre to take. Adjectives.

TERM ONE Introductory project: Preparing for school residential week in France (July). UNIT 1: En ville French shops and what they sell. Shop for food. Extend numbers and use questions, quantities, money, prices to shop. TERM TWO UNIT 2: On fait des projets Different countries (mainly Europe) and prepositions. Use aller + infinitive to describe what and when you are (not) going to do something. Different means of transport. Describe a village/town/city using pouvoir to say what you can( t) do. Read and write holiday postcards. TERM THREE UNIT 3: Au collège Describe your school. Talk about the school day, including travel. Talk about morning and evening routines. Give opinions about school subjects and other aspects of school life. Say what you (don t) want to do. Verbs (present tense): revise and extend use of -er verbs, -re verbs and -ir verbs. Negatives (ne pas, ne plus). Use prepositions with towns (à) and countries (au, en, aux). Verbs: irregular present tense, including venir, voir, aller, pouvoir. Irregular verbs: dire, lire, écrire, apprendre, comprendre, vouloir. Use reflexive verbs to describe daily routine.

4 UNIT 4: En famille Introduce people, including greetings. Ask and answer questions while staying in France. Perfect tense: Recognise and use to describe the recent past. Past times expressions. TERM FOUR UNIT 5: Bon appétit Buy drinks and snacks in a café. Choose ice creams. Discuss what you like to eat and drink. Order a meal in a restaurant. Describe a meal. TERM FIVE UNIT 6: En voyage Understand and talk about travel plans. Railway station signs. Buy train tickets. Travel by air, coach, boat. Describe a recent day out. TERM SIX UNIT 7: Ca va? Clothes. Describe people s appearance. Parts of the body. Say how you feel and describe what hurts. Make an appointment and go to the doctor s, use a pharmacy. Perfect tense of regular verbs with avoir. Expressions of time. Ce/cet/cette/ces (this/these) with nouns. Verb boire. Perfect tense of selected irregular verbs. Questions in the perfect tense. Negatives in the perfect tense. Present tense of verb partir. Il faut and infinitive. Perfect tense using être. Verb mettre with clothing. Extend range of adjectives. Direct object pronouns (le, la, l, les). Avoir expressions. Imperatives.
