1 CURRICULUM GUIDE French 2 and 2 Honors LAYF05 / LAYFO7 Course Description The course treats all language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students learn to manipulate structural patterns of French with the primary goal being the understanding and production of the written and spoken language. Class activities include preparation of dialogues, question/answer exchanges, oral proficiency sessions, and the completion of written exercises. Audio-visual materials and computer software reinforce the linguistic and culture outcomes of the course. Cultural topics focus both on Latin America and Spain. 4 LEARNING TARGETS French 2/2Honors 1 st Semester I Over-arching Reading Target: I can comprehend (at a literal level) a passage of fiction or non-fiction containing structures and vocabulary presented in the course. I can preview and extract meaning from graphics in French. I can skim and scan a text for information using contextual clues. I can distinguish details from the general meaning of a text. II Over-arching Vocabulary Target: I can recognize and use vocabulary contained in Discovering French 2. I can recognize and use vocabulary from Unité 1. I can recognize and use vocabulary from Unité 2. I can recognize and use vocabulary from Unité 3. III IV Over-arching Verb Target : I can recognize and use a variety of verbs. I can recognize and use present tense regular er, -ir and re verbs. I can recognize and use the following verbs: venir, faire, être, avoir, voir, boire and connaître. I can recognize and use the verbs conjugated like sortir and partir I can recognize and use the verbs that require infinitive constructions such as pouvoir, vouloir, devoir, and aller. I can recognize and use verbs conjugated like mettre and prendre Over-arching Usage Target: I can recognize and use a variety of structures. I can recognize and use subject pronouns. I can recognize and use articles: definite and indefinite. I can recognize and use gender and number of nouns. I can maintain agreement and correct placement of nouns and adjectives (regular and irregular. I can recognize and use expressions with être, faire and avoir. I can recognize and use the passé composé of regular and irregular avoir and étre verbs. I can recognize and use quelqu'un and quelquechose. I can recognize and use negative words with the present indicative tense and the passé composé. I can recognize and use the partives in affirmative and negative statements.
