2 A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIR Black Restaurant Week is a city wide celebration of Black restaurants and chefs in the Houston area. This week long event will serve as an education of local businesses and a fundraising initiative. We aim to create an event to cater to Houston s tastemakers, professionals and area foodies looking to experience delicious food and exquisite wines. Black Restaurant Week gives patrons in Houston the opportunity to experience Houston s exceptional Black owned restaurants while providing much-needed relief for families suffering from hunger. Proceeds from each Black Restaurant Week plate will benefit Change Happens! This organization assists youth with a wide range of services to motivate and empower their lives. Sponsorship donations will be the catalyst to ensure a phenomenal week of dining to raise money for this worthy cause. For Eight scrumptious days, Sunday, April 3 Sunday, April 10th foodies will be able to eat their hearts out at an ever growing list of participating Black owned restaurants featuring unbelievable price options for brunch, lunch and dinner! Diners can enjoy three-course prix-fixe dinner menus for just $35 or $45 per person, a two-course prix-fixe dinner for $20 and Brunch (where offered) for $25 per person. Nosh, is the official kickoff event featuring a showcase of Black Caterers, Executive Chefs, and Food Shops in Houston. 6 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Celebrating Houston s Black Culinary Scene Inaugural Houston Black Restaurant Week Kicks Off Houston, TX, March 10, The inaugural Houston Black Restaurant Week (#HOUBRW) kicks off April 3-10, 2016, offering Houston s local tastemakers, professionals, and area foodies a full week dedicated to highlighting Black restaurants and chefs in the city. Houston Black Restaurant Week will feature signature prix-fixe dining menus and special meals for brunch, lunch and dinner, at various dining establishments, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting local non-profit organization Change Happens!. Houston Black Restaurant Week seeks to increase the awareness, support and patronization of black restaurants and chefs in the city. Houston is now recognized as one of the leading culinary destinations in the United States; with Blacks making significant contributions to Houston s local food scene. Houston boasts a variety of well-accomplished Black restaurant owners, executive chefs, and catering companies, who have created a legacy of providing delicious food. During Houston Black Restaurant Week, Houstonians will be treated to a series of events promoting the local culinary scene such as a catering showcase, a pop-up dinner with Chef Ja Nel Witt (Season 11 Winner of FOX s Hell s Kitchen), a networking dinner, and bartending competition.
