2 General Information OVERVIEW Advanced Management Program for Healthcare Executives is designed to increase the ability of physician leaders and healthcare administrators to create and implement the strategies required for enhancing healthcare and strengthening organizations. Rapid changes in healthcare include new competitors and services, mergers and separation of hospitals and clinics, spin offs of specialized services, new demand for service, and decreasing reimbursement. These changes require new approaches to strategic leadership. Meeting the quality, access and cost requirements of patients, payers, and communities are global challenges. Strong leaders who understand these dynamics must design and implement strategies to help their organizations thrive in this challenging and increasingly competitive environment. Healthcare professionals are being chosen to fill key leadership positions in health care systems, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and entrepreneurial companies formed by clinics, hospitals, health plans, government health agencies, and suppliers. These professionals must fit together diverse concepts including alternative medicine, managed care, integrated systems, new technologies, networks and management. This intensive training program will offer a comprehensive study of these and many other issues facing the healthcare executive in today s dynamic healthcare marketplace. COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES By the end of this course, participants should be able to: Develop an organizational vision statement Create financial strategies to align financial resources with organizational vision Implement a planning process aligned with the organizational vision Apply effective marketing techniques in the healthcare environment Explain the impact of information systems on core healthcare delivery processes Implement personal and organizational leadership changes to achieve an organization s vision. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS An in-depth study of the contributions of finance, marketing, and information technology to strategy development and implementation is a key component of the course curriculum. Contemporary experiences that provide provocative ideas, insights, and tools will be used to assist participants in becoming more effective leaders. Learn new styles and behaviors that enable effective leadership. Presentations are interactive with the faculty. Small break-out groups and case studies achieve learning through participant discussions. CREDIT This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of Mayo Foundation and The Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Mayo Foundation is accredited by the ACCME to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Mayo Foundation designates this education activity for a maximum of 40.5 hours in category 1 credit towards the American Medical Association Physician s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
