Specifically, we: Help Australian companies to grow their business in international markets, including through administration of the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme and the TradeStart program. Provide coordinated government assistance to attract and facilitate productive foreign direct investment (FDI) into Australia. Promote the Australian education sector in international markets and assist Australian education providers with market information. Provide advice to the Australian Government on its trade, tourism and investment policy agenda. Develop policy, manage programs and provide research to strengthen Australia's tourism industry and to grow Australia's tourism market share. Deliver Australian consular, passport and other government services in designated overseas locations. Manage the Building Brand Australia program to enhance awareness of contemporary Australian skills and capability and enrich Australia's global reputation. 2 Position Description Title: Business Development Associate Position Number: 1075 Division, Unit, Location: International Operations, Growth and Emerging Markets, Sao Paulo Level: Austrade Overseas Performance Level (AOPL) 3 Term: Ongoing Reporting to: Senior Trade Commissioner, Sao Paulo 80% of the position is responsible to the Post Manager for the provision of market entry and marketing advisory services to Austrade and its clients. 20% is responsible for the provision of business practice expertise to the team in general. Role: Business Development Associate Duties: Broad Functions Under the direct supervision of the Post Manager, work predominately on assisting Exporter clients to enter the Brazil market in order to assist in achieving the post s KPI targets. Duties and Responsibilities As directed by the Post Manager and/or in collaboration with Business Development Managers: Proactively contribute to the development of new customer contacts / networks in existing and new market segments and deliver quality opportunities to exporters, with a particular emphasis on the health and medical sector Prepare short profiles, rapid advice reports and/or larger research reports on the market potential for Australian products in Brazil based on analysis of in-market interviews and other forms of primary and secondary market research and statistical data Arrange appointments and visit programs for visiting Australian business people Participate and assist in the execution of post marketing initiatives, including buyer missions, video conferencing, mini-showcases and/or virtual trade fairs Other duties as directed Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade Business Systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice and development opportunities Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles Page 2 of 6

3 Allocation of Effort Austrade Marketing Duties... 80% Business Practice Duties... 20% Authority The Business Development Associate will have authority to carry out the assigned tasks and responsibilities under the overall direction of the Post Manager. Performance Measurement The performance of the duties of the position will be assessed through a Performance Agreement between the employee and the Post Manager. It may incorporate individual and / or team-based Key Performance Measures, as well as other quantitative and qualitative objectives. Page 3 of 6

4 Assessment Selection Criteria The selection criteria highlight the essential components (skills, experience and qualities) that are required to perform in the role effectively. Tertiary degree in commerce, business, law or a related discipline (or equivalent sales and marketing experience). 2. Demonstrated high quality research, analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to use the internet for research and to synthesise information effectively into concise, easy-toread documents. 3. Demonstrated commitment to high levels of client service and problem solving. Experience in the health and medical business sector, would be an advantage. 4. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, act under minimal supervision and proactively achieve sales outcomes within the organisation s business and ethical guidelines. 5. Well-developed project management skills, involvement in trade exhibitions or seminars, product launches, or other similar events would be an advantage. 6. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and verbal). Experience in developing customer databases, contacts or networks and/or cold calling would be an advantage. 7. Demonstrated capabilities with the full Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Exposure and experience with client contact/management systems would be an advantage. 5 Employment Terms General Information This is a locally-engaged position governed by Austrade s Overseas Engaged Employees terms and conditions and Brazilian labour law. Ongoing employment with Austrade will be offered for this position. Salary This position is at Austrade Overseas Performance Level (AOPL) 3. APOL3 Commencement salary is $ 92,273 BRL gross per annum. Salary advancement to APOL3 Standard Salary level ($ 97,129 REL gross per annum) can be approved after six months of service, subject to a positive performance appraisal. Mandatory Requirements: Education/experience: - A tertiary degree in commerce, business, law or a related discipline (or equivalent sales and marketing experience). - Minimum of 3 years marketing, promotional or business development experience. Language Proficiency: - Applicants must be fluent both in written and spoken English and Portuguese. Shortlisted applicants may be first tested by telephone prior to Austrade committing to interview. Residency and Work Permit: - Applicants must currently hold proof of rights of residency and employment in Brazil, i.e. currently have the right to live and legally work in Brazil. Desirable: - Experience in working either within the Australian or Brazilian government agencies, and in particular, industry knowledge in the Health and Medical sectors would be highly regarded.
