Program Description: This course is designed to meet the training needs of those individuals who plan to seek employment in the auto mechanics trades. This course is organized to provide theoretical and hands-on experience. The curriculum centers around the tasks an auto mechanic should be able to perform. *AUT PMX-100 Drive Train and Axles Reading & Writing standard: Reading Standards Writing Standards -1cde- 2ade Text, multimedia, review questions, open response questions, skills standards writing assignment II. Prerequisites: Workplace Fundamentals / 2.0 GPA in Automotive Technology III. Textbook: Automotive Excellence, Volume One, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill 2004 IV. Objectives: To develop the student in: * Safe working habits * Understanding the theories of the auto and its components * Skills necessary in auto servicing and repairing * Ability to use technical and related information * Use of repair manuals and PC for proper repair procedures *Understanding of the importance of a good employer- employee relationship * Build confidence in one s ability and pride in workmanship * Ability to recognize, properly name, maintain, and effectively use tools and equipment * Attitude for employment in the automotive field * Provide the student with information concerning opportunities for further education and employment. V. Course Requirements: The students will complete all requirements assigned by the instructor, including, but not necessarily limited to the following: A: Reading assignments, text and other assigned readings B: Problem and other written assignments C: Class attendance and participation D: Completion of lab tasks assigned E: Exams from class lectures, discussions, lab, and other assignments. F: Each Student is Required to Maintain a Class Notebook VI. Evaluation Procedures: Evaluation will be determined by grades from: A: Exams

3 B: Attendance C: Participation D: Assignments E: Midterm Exam F: Final Exam VII. Attendance: Students are expected to attend class each day to get full benefit from the course. If absent an excuse is expected on your first day returned.excessive tardiness will be addressed according to the school s Rules and Regulations. 1-4 days no loss, 4-10 days 5% loss, 10 days + 10% loss in final grade percentage VIII. Grading: Grades will be taken from exams, assignments, participation, and attendance. Structure will be as follows: Daily Grade 40% Test 30% A. Shop Work A. Test over Lectures B. Attentiveness B. Unit Goal: This course is designed to let the student explore several opportunities for a career in the automotive industry. The student will be introduced to shop and personal safety, as well as how to properly and safely use the tools and equipment of the automotive field. Next the student will be introduced to basic automotive transmissions. This course introduces the student to the principles, theories, and concepts of the automotive transmission system. All of the automotive program classes will consist of both classroom work and hands on experience in the lab. This course includes AUT 180-AUT181 and may transfer directly to any of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and/or other postsecondary institutions. O-NET code 5052.
