1 JOHN A. LOGAN COLLEGE G. Bricker FL 15 MFT INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS AND PLC S 3 cr. (2-2) COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces the student to industrial robots. Included is the operation of PLCs. The student will learn ladder diagram programming of PLCs and point-to-point programming for industrial robots. The student will also write programs to integrate various equipment using the PLCs. PREREQUISITES: None COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate ability to use Rockwell 500 & 5000 Software 2. Learn overall PLC operation and control 3. Write relay ladder programs used to control various types of industrial equipment 4. Demonstrate safety concerning PLC controlled equipment and industrial robots 5. Learn overall industrial robot operation and control 6. Demonstrate ability to program industrial robots COURSE OUTLINE: Topics to be covered in this class include: (Note: The order material will be covered during this course may be different the the order of the course outline.) Integrating Equipment COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Lecture: All tests will be weighted at 100 points. The Final Exam is weighted at 200 points and will be comprehensive. All homework assignments, lab assignments, and quizzes will be included in point totals for the course. Tests may not be made up unless prior arrangements have been made. Under no circumstances will missed quizzes or homework be made up or accepted late. Lab: The exact number of labs to be completed will be determined as the semester progresses. Laboratory points will be based on the quality of the performance of individual lab tasks and the depth of understanding expressed in the written conclusion and demonstration of the individual lab project. NOTE: All labs must be completed and recorded in the students' three ring binder to pass this course. Folder: (Three ring binder) Students must keep a folder with all papers from the class. The notebook must be in order of completion of work, with sections: Test, Homework, Quiz and Handouts. A table of contents will be the first page(s) with a listing of all material under each heading with the scores received beside its item. Required Tools & Materials: Textbook 3-ring Binder & Paper Flash Drive Scientific Calculator Attendance Policy: The attendance policies as outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook will be followed. Missing any or all of a lecture or lab may be considered as an absence. Each student will be given 40 points for attendance at the beginning of the semester. For each absence recorded of one hour or more, up to one class period, 10

3 3 points will be deducted. When the 40 points is depleted, 10 points will be deducted from the student's total points for each absence as noted above. If an excused absence is granted (see JALC Attendance Policy), the time may be made-up and the points deducted will be returned to the total (when time is made up), up to 40 points maximum. *NOTE* While in class, it may be necessary to purchase other supplies or materials as the need arises. Student Success Center (Room C219). Services available for students include tutoring (both scheduled one-on-one tutoring and walk-in tutoring) and Disability Support Services. Students can drop in during the hours of operation for tutoring in the Math Help Room (C219 and C223) or the Biology Help Room (C243A). To receive one-onone tutoring, students should make a request early in the semester in the Student Success Center. The Student Success Center is also the place to arrange accommodations. John A. Logan College will make reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Contact the coordinator of Disability Support Services, Room C219B, ext. 8516, for more information. The coordinator must determine eligibility and arrange appropriate academic accommodations. However, it is the student s responsibility to register in advance of a school term with Disability Support Services and to turn in a class schedule each term to ensure accommodations are arranged. For assistance with writing assignments in any college courses, students are encouraged to visit the Writing Center in C214. English instructors are available for one-on-one tutoring each semester during hours posted at the center. Financial Aid. Students who receive financial assistance and completely withdraw from classes prior to 60% of the semester being completed (approximately 2-3 weeks after midterm) could be responsible to return a portion of their Federal Pell Grant award. Prior to withdrawing from courses, students should contact the Financial Aid Office. Course Withdrawal Information. It is expected that you will attend this class regularly. If you stop attending for any reason, you should contact your advisor and withdraw officially to avoid the posting of a failing grade (an E) to your transcript. It is also advisable to discuss the situation with your instructor before dropping. Administrative Withdrawal. A student may be withdrawn from a class for lack of attendance/participation as defined below. Logging into an online course is not sufficient to be considered participation. Participation for online courses is defined as an active process and may include posting/sending assignments to the drop box or instructor s , participating in online discussion boards, taking quizzes or exams, or otherwise communicating and/or participating in some manner that is approved by the instructor. A student who has been administratively withdrawn from class will receive

4 4 an notification from the Admissions Office. This notification will outline the student s appeal options if the student wishes to re-enroll in the course.
