1 COURSE NUMBER: ITMT 2451 XA7 COLLIN COLLEGE COURSE SYLLABUS COURSE TITLE: WINDOWS SERVER 2008 ADMINISTRATOR COURSE DESCRIPTION: Knowledge and skills for the entry-level server administration or information technology (IT) professional to implement, monitor and maintain Windows Server 2008 servers. (MS ). COURSE CREDIT HOURS: 4 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 3 PREREQUISITE: ITMT 2401 STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Plan server deployment, server management, application and data provisioning, business continuity and high availability: and monitor and maintain servers. In Collin s workforce programs, the SCANS skills are developed and reinforced throughout the curriculum to provide students with an opportunity to hone these skills/competencies in the context of their education. Over the course of an entire degree program, the successful student is expected to demonstrate all of the SCANS skills and competencies as part of their education. COURSE RESOURCES: TEXTBOOK: Microsoft Official Academic Course (MOAC), Windows Server 2008 Administrator, Microsoft Certified IT Professional Exam , ISBN SUPPLIES: N/A ATTENDANCE POLICY: Each student is expected to attend every class period unless prior arrangement is made with the instructor. In the event of an unexpected emergency, the student is expected to notify the instructor by within 24 hours of the missed class period (or as soon as possible if unable to provide notification within 24 hours). Attendance and participation are essential components of the learning experience, and all students are expected to participate in discussions during class as part of their learning experience. METHOD OF EVALUATION: The student will complete all readings, lab assignments, exams, and learning activities within a specified time frame. A midterm and a comprehensive final exam will be given. The exams are open notes and open book. Midterm will consist of 50 multiple choice questions final will be You are expected to complete all requirements individually and to turn them in by the assigned date. End of Lesson Knowledge Assessments will be due at the beginning of class following the last day that lesson is discussed in class. There are 12 online labs for the course. You are expected to turn in a one page write up for 10 out of the 12 labs. The lab assignments are expected to be completed using the provided format. Lab assignments must be turned in on the assigned night. For lab assignments, group collaboration is encouraged but individually turned in. For exams, each student is expected to work individually.

3 WINDOWS SERVER 2008 ADMINISTRATOR (70-646) CERTIFICATION EXAM: If the student takes and passes the certification exam before the end of the course, this will grant the student a 100% as a replacement for one in-class exam. Your grade is comprised of the following: Participation 20% Exams (2) 60% Lab Assignments 20% The following scale will be used for grading: A: >= 90% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: < 60% PARTICIPATION: Each student is expected to attend every class and to actively participate in class discussion and in-class activities. EXAMS: There will be a mid-term and a final exam for the course. Exams will be in-class and will consist of multiple choice questions. They will be taken on the Wednesday of exam week. The final exam will be comprehensive. The breakdown of each exam is as follows: Mid-Term: Lessons 1-6 Final: Lessons 8-12 ASSIGNMENTS: Throughout the text, there are multiple online labs. Students are expected to work through each lab to develop a better understanding of the material, and are required to provide a one page write-up of each lab. Students are only required to turn in 10 write-ups (with each being worth 2 point, for a total of 20 possible points toward your final grade). Students may pick which 10 labs they wish to turn in.
