2 HEADLONG THEATRE JOB DESCRIPTION ASSOCIATE PRODUCER Responsible to: Administrative Producer - AP (direct report) Executive Director - ED Objectives of Post To act as line producer for Headlong s projects either on national or international tour, in London or in regional consortia. In the case of projects that are co-produced with Headlong but managed by a partner theatre, to play a co-ordinating role between the two organisations. The main focus of this role will be the forthcoming national and international tour of 1984, but the post-holder will be expected to provide support across other Headlong projects including a concurrent UK tour, a partnership with the National Theatre, and contribute to the planning of productions that will take place in 2016 and beyond. Responsibilities include: Line producing To liaise with the AP and ED to schedule projects and drive the delivery process forward once the AP and ED have set up the producing context and financial/partnership structure. To be responsible for creating production budgets alongside the AP and ED. To work closely with the freelance Production Manager to manage complex production budgets dynamically and responsible, working alongside the creative team to realize their vision within budgetary constraints. To liaise day to day with the Finance Manager and AP on all aspects of production accounting In conversation with the Director and Artistic Director, source and recruit creative, production and stage management teams. To check availabilities, negotiate deals and issue contracts. To support the casting process, negotiate deals and draft contracts. To lead on international travel, visa and taxation arrangements. To be the first contact with the Production Manager and Company Manager for any issues arising during production or performances, maintaining a constructive, professional and safe environment for the teams Headlong employs.

3 To visit productions on tour in the UK and internationally, forming a first point of contact with theatres, managing any issues that arise and supporting the creative team and company to maintain quality and good morale. To support any education or talent development strategies around productions insofar as creatives and actors are involved. To support the Marketing Consultant on show marketing as required, with the support of the Administrator, including overseeing mail outs. To manage the Administrator in the compilation of show programmes and playtexts. To manage the Administrator in the organization of press nights and special events. To manage a review meeting at the end of each production where members of the team can evaluate successes and failures. Where Headlong is co-general managing any West End transfers to be responsible for cast and creative deals, consult on production budgets and advise on marketing and press campaigns as well as attending marketing meetings to represent Headlong s interest. As appropriate, to support the ED in planning future life for productions. Project co-ordination When projects are co-produced by Headlong but managed by a partner venue, to be responsible for co-ordinating activities between the two organisations, and offering support to the partner theatre as necessary. Brand development and income generation To ensure that the company achieves maximum brand visibility across all activity and projects. To contribute to income generation by leading on project-specific opportunities and proactively seeking new sources of funding. Other To support the organization of special events as required. To participate in Headlong strategic and planning discussions, away-days etc. To keep abreast of industry trends by attending shows and events and by following news items and reviews.

4 To undertake any other tasks as may be appropriate to the post as required by the AP. Person specification Essential At least three years experience working in professional theatre in a producing role. Experience working on multi-partner national and international touring projects. Experience of commercial producing, working with West End producers and general managers. Good financial management skills, including budget setting and management. Experience of managing freelance staff. Experience of partnership working and a working knowledge of co-production arrangements with various types of partner organization. Good knowledge of UK Theatre subsidized repertory or SOLT agreements for actors, stage management and creative freelancers. A thoughtful approach and a demonstrable understanding of wider trends within the industry. Excellent administrative skills, with an organized and methodical approach. Ability to process and summarise complex information quickly. An energetic manner, an ability to drive projects to completion and to be selfsupporting administratively. Excellent communication skills with a clear and authoritative style both in person and over the phone/by . A natural collaborator who will fit into a close knit company with ease, humour and confidence. A keen eye for detail. Desirable Good networks within the theatre industry. Experience of contributing to marketing campaigns across all platforms (print, online, social).

5 Knowledge and networks in fundraising. Knowledge of Health and Safety protocols, insurance and legal issues, and best practice in equal opportunities and diversity policies. Term and Conditions Hours and place of work 40 hours per week (including a 1 hour lunch break) based at the office in Southwark. Headlong office hours are 10am-6pm Monday to Friday, but some evening and weekend work will be required. No overtime will be paid. Please note this role will require some international travel. Contract and salary The post is offered on a one year fixed-term contract to start in June Salary is 28,000 per annum. Holiday 25 days holiday per year.
