2 About this Course: This qualification has been designed for workers who complete a wide range of administrative tasks, under direct or indirect supervision. These functions can be carried out in a range of settings, including hospitals, community health centres, private practice, etc. Entry Requirement: There are no stated entry requirements for this qualification, nor are there any prerequisite competencies for units within this qualification. Course Structure Attainment of this qualification requires the successful completion of 15 units of competency: 5 core units 10 elective units In addition, at the commencement of the course, students are required to complete a sustainability module. This module covers the sustainability requirements which are present in many of the units making up this program. An overview of each unit can be found on the following pages. If there is a specific training need you would like addressed which is not covered, please speak with the Training & Development Coordinator. Duration This course has a nominal duration of 9 months. The program is however workplace based, so depending on your existing skills and experience and current work role, it may be shorter, or longer. Dates for each unit will be set with your trainer and in conjunction with your workplace supervisor upon enrolment Delivery and Assessment Delivery and assessment will occur in the workplace to ensure application of the skills and knowledge you learn. Units of Competency HLT32912 Certificate III in Health Administration HLTHIR301C Communicate and work effectively in health This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a health setting with clients, staff, visitors, suppliers and others to meet established work requirements. BSBMED301B Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; and to use appropriate advanced medical terminology. HLTIN301C Comply with infection control policies and procedures This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to comply with infection control policies and procedures. All procedures must be carried out in accordance with current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards for maintaining infection control and the policies and procedures of the organisation This unit acknowledges the importance of complying with an effective infection control strategy that ensures the safety of the client (or end-user of healthrelated products/services), maintains personal protection and prevents the transmission of infections from person to person All tasks must be carried out in accordance with State or Territory legislative requirements that affect work practices of the organisation and/or worker. HLTWHS200A Participate in WHS processes This unit specifies the workplace performance required for an entry level worker to participate in work health and safety (WHS) processes in the workplace in order to ensure their own health and safety at work as well as that of others in the workplace who may be affected by their actions. BSBMED302B Prepare and process medical accounts knowledge required to provide advice to patients regarding fee structures and process referrals, and to prepare and process medical accounts for a range of patients. BSBMED303B Maintain patient records knowledge required to maintain patient records within an existing medical records management system, under supervision. BSBMED304B Assist in controlling stocks and supplies knowledge required to provide assistance in stock control processes within a medical environment. This involves assisting in maintaining stock levels, storing stock, stocktaking and disposing of out of date stock. BSBMED305B Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment knowledge required to apply principles and requirements relating to confidentiality, privacy and security to own work within the medical environment. BSBMED401B Manage patient record keeping system knowledge required to manage a patient record system within a medical environment and to supervise others.
