This tool is a comprehensive summary of up-to-date information on the revised first aid program. The first issue was distributed in March If you did not receive this document, please safetyservices-on@redcross.ca to request a copy. Watch for the next update which will be sent out shortly. Please Note Due to the first aid program revisions, first aid instructor courses and instructor conversion courses will no longer be offered after June 30th. This coincides with the limited stock of instructor course materials remaining in the warehouse. Please monitor your inventory of existing first aid program material to ensure that you do not maintain a high level of stock as we will not be able to accept returns. 3M, maker of Nexcare first aid products partners with Red Cross Canadian Red Cross and 3M, maker of Nexcare are pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership to promote education and training on injury prevention and minor wound care. 3M offers a wide variety of innovative consumer health care products under the Nexcare brand. They continually strive to bring new and advanced solutions to their first aid and skin care line. Red Cross will work with 3M to reach Canadians with important life saving messages. The company is involving Red Cross in as many of their promotions as possible such as Zellers instore promotions and a full-page ad that will appear in various publications across the country. 3M will also be donating a variety of Nexcare products to be used in support of Red Cross promotional events and contests. New Reception Hours Effective April 1, Ontario Zone's reception will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a change from the previous closing time of 5 p.m. Please note that the Safety Services contact centre hours remain unchanged at 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are picking up an order at any time during regular business hours, please do so at the warehouse entrance located at the rear of the building. 1.
2 Canadian Red Cross Mini Marketing Minute Designed for Authorized Providers (APs), the Mini Marketing Minute consists of a concise, practical marketing tip to help APs maximize the growth and success of their business. The ideas provided in the Mini Marketing Minute are for use at your discretion, and are intended as suggestions only. If you have any questions or feedback about the Mini Marketing Minute please contact wendy.wiles@redcross.ca. This month's marketing minute comes from a web site designed by Skyline; a company dedicated to providing customers with a professional trade show display and who offer the best trade show experience possible. Visit for more information. As Red Cross becomes more involved in various trade shows, we frequently invite authorized providers (APs) to participate. So why should APs take advantage of these opportunities? First, trade shows provide the ideal venue for face-to-face interaction with prospective customers. As shows are built around a specific theme such as the Cottage Life Show, they attract an audience that is likely to be interested in your product or service. One-onone communication with a targeted group lets you offer customized solutions to meet a client's individual needs. Trade shows are also a great way for small businesses to market themselves as they compete on a level playing field with larger companies. Exhibitors generate leads for new business opportunities and also learn about new products and services in the marketplace. Networking with fellow exhibitors and other companies allows you to acquire business contacts and build relationships. The Trade Show Trade-Off Make the most of your trade show experience with these useful tips for exhibitors: Smile. Don't cross your arms, have them in your pocket, or crossed behind your back. Hold some literature in your hand so you appear more approachable. Scan everyone regardless of whether or not they need your product now. If they pick up a flyer, it shows interest and they may contact you in the future. Don't try to sell. Take the first step by setting up a meeting or appointment. Follow-up after the show is key. Don't stand behind the booth table. Stand out in front of your booth, greet people and make eye contact. Keep a clean booth. This is your office away from the office - make it as inviting as possible. The Canadian Red Cross will be present at the upcoming Baby Time Show, May 5-7 in Toronto. In addition to national shows, look for regional trade shows in your area. 2.
3 Canadian Red Cross Get 'On Board' for Boating Season In October 2005, all On Board authorized providers (APs) were mailed a letter providing their username and password to access the AP web site at If you did not receive your letter, please call the contact centre to request your login information. APs who offer the On Board program are now able to access support tools and information on the AP site. Programming tools (exams, roster), graphic standards, a full list of exam procedures (program guide) and marketing tools are all available for download. Note: APs are encouraged to deplete their existing stock of exams before introducing the new exam as we are not accepting returns of old stock. Three easy steps to becoming an On Board AP: You'll need a proctor To become a proctor you must be 18 years of age, have a Pleasure Craft Operator (PCO) card and complete an application form through Ontario Zone. Tip: Consider having more than one proctor for your business. Make it official Add On Board to your existing authorized provider agreement at no additional cost. Exam-ine your market Promote your schedule of On Board test dates. Marketing tools can be found on the AP web site. A limited supply of promotional material can also be obtained through the contact centre. On Board exams are available for download on the AP site. APs submit payment for exams with the roster sheet. Exams are $10 each plus GST. For more information, call the contact centre at or safetyservices-on@redcross.ca. Authorized Provider Renewal 2006 All authorized provider renewal packages were mailed out in March and April. If you did not receive your package, please notify the contact centre at or safetyservices-on@redcross.ca. Remember to renew your contract by May 31 to be eligible for our special "early-bird" prize! Babysitter Hero Award The Red Cross Babysitter Hero Award honours outstanding young people who put their Red Cross Babysitting training to work and exhibit the very best in child care. Sponsored by Hbc, the award recognizes babysitters who use their skills to go above and beyond the call of duty - in many different ways. Red Cross and Hbc have named four Babysitter Heroes this year. Recipients will be presented with their award and a $500 Hbc gift card at their local Zellers store in early May Congratulations to our Babysitter Heroes! Nicki Wolfenden (New Hazelton, BC) Lucas Lauzon (Edmonton, AB) Courtney Harding (Bobcaygeon, ON) Laryssa Kartsonis (Longueuil, QC) WSIB Regulations Information on WSIB regulations can be found in the First Aid Regulations 1101 booklet.
