5 Dear Members of The Virginia Bar Association: On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am pleased to invite you, your family and your guests to join us for the 125th Annual Meeting of The Virginia Bar Association at the Williamsburg Lodge and Conference Center on January 22-24, While each VBA meeting is special, we are especially excited about the theme of this Annual Meeting: In Pursuit of the Rule of Law: Honoring the 800th Anniversary of the Magna Carta and the 127th Anniversary of the VBA. Throughout 2015, the anniversary of Magna Carta will be celebrated throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. The VBA is honored to launch this celebration at its Annual Meeting. Our Committee on Special Issues of National and State Importance has planned a general session program for Friday afternoon entitled Magna Carta s American Legacy. The Committee has also organized the Legacy Series Luncheon Presentation on Friday featuring renowned Magna Carta expert Sir Robert Worcester, who is Emeritus Chancellor of the University of Kent, Deputy Chairman of the Magna Carta Trust, and Chairman of the Magna Carta th Anniversary Commemoration Committee. These compelling programs will highlight not only the historical significance of the Magna Carta but also its practical application to modern jurisprudence. In keeping with tradition, our substantive law sections will present a wide variety of high quality CLE programs on Friday and Saturday. In addition, at our Friday evening banquet, we will bestow the VBA's highest honor, the Gerald L. Baliles Distinguished Service Award, on retiring Supreme Court of Virginia Chief Justice Cynthia L. Kinser in recognition of her outstanding legal career. We will also present the Robert E. Shepherd, Jr. Award to Professor Margaret E. Bacigal in honor of her advocacy on behalf of children. The post-dinner entertainment will be the terrific Bart Chucker Band. At our Saturday morning business meeting, we will welcome Harry M.
