(Project Safe Childhood is an initiative started by the United States Department of Justice aimed at preventing the abuse and exploitation of children through the internet.) 3 Page 3 of 4 BREAK OUT SESSIONS (SELECT ONE) 10:00 to 11:15 Workshop I: Appellate Practice Panel (Courtroom 10B, 10 th Floor) The Honorable Gerald Bard Tjoflat, United States Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit The Honorable James Hill, Senior United States Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit Sander Moody, Assistant Professor and Advisor to Moot Court Honor Board, Florida Coastal School of Law In conjunction with a series of videos in which the Justices of the United States Supreme Court discuss appellate briefing and advocacy, the panel will offer constructive advice and insight regarding effective appellate advocacy in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. This interactive breakout session will provide the opportunity for audience participation. Workshop II: An Introduction to Federal Criminal Sentencing (Courtroom 10D, 10 th Floor) The Honorable Timothy Corrigan, United States District Judge, Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division Patty Barksdale, Assistant United States Attorney, Middle District of Florida After briefly reviewing the key elements of the federal sentencing process, Judge Corrigan will conduct a mock sentencing of a white collar criminal defendant, including arguments by an Assistant United States Attorney and defendant s counsel. This program will benefit all federal court practitioners, including civil practitioners who would like practical insight into the process so as to be better prepared to advise clients who may become involved in criminal investigations. Workshop III: Streamlining and Improving Process in the Middle District (Clerk s Office, 9 th Floor) Michael Dewberry, Esquire, Partner, Rogers Towers, P.A. Jennifer Mansfield, Esquire, Partner, Holland + Knight LLP This workshop will involve discussion of various aspects of both criminal and civil federal practice in the Middle District of Florida, followed by the development of specific recommendations to streamline and improve the "federal court experience." These may include, for example, discussing successful practices in other courts, case management in criminal and civil cases, and revising and standardizing the various standing orders, etc. Without attributing them to any individual lawyer, these recommendations will be passed along to the Judges of the Middle District of Florida for their consideration.

4 Page 4 of 4 RETURN TO JURY ASSEMBLY ROOM 11:15 to 11:30 Chew Restaurant will serve box lunches (to include your choice of sandwich, salad, and dessert). 11:30 to 12:15 WHITE COLLAR IMPLICATIONS OF THE CURRENT ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRISES Michael Seigel, Professor of Law, University of Florida, Levin College of Law (Introduction by Michael Abel, Esquire, Partner, Holland + Knight) The commission and public exposure of white collar crime is cyclical, increasing during and shortly after economic downturns. The current economic crisis is no exception. Already we have seen a significant uptick in bank frauds and collapsed ponzi schemes. Other trends will likely follow. Professor Seigel will offer insight into these trends, with an emphasis on how they will affect prosecution and practice in the Middle District of Florida. 12:15 to 1:10 "DEFENDANT MOVES THIS 'HORRIBLE COURT': OBSERVATIONS ON LAWYER PROFESSIONALISM" Summey Orr, III, Esquire, Partner, Holland + Knight LLP, Atlanta, Georgia (Introduction by the Honorable Timothy Corrigan, United States District Judge, Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division) After presentations that touched on bankruptcy issues, child internet crimes, appellate advocacy, and local practice in the Middle District of Florida, frankly, by lunch time, participants in the seminar could use some comic relief. Thus, the lunchtime "professionalism" discussion, featuring Mr. Orr, promises to skip past analyzing and debating those tricky scenarios that represent the fine line between professional and unprofessional conduct, and head right for material that is so obviously unprofessional and blatantly outrageous that you'll need to see these real life examples for yourself to convince you that some lawyers actually tried to pull it off!
