Students learn to develop disaster recovery plans and organisational policies, create baselines, monitor performance using a system/ network monitor and log files to evaluate performance. 18 16 NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROSPECTUS ICT Diploma in Information Technology Level 6 OVERVIEW COURSE DURATION Two Academic Years This two-year programme of study focuses on the theory and practice of a range of computing systems and networks, and how these systems are used to support business practices. It aims to produce graduates with a sound technical understanding of information technology and the application of IT to business information systems. The course has an emphasis on developing skills in problem solving, interpersonal communication and addressing IT problems in a range of contexts. The programme s core is the fundamentals of information systems, hardware and software infrastructure, user applications and communication. In the second year students are able to specialise in networking or user support. 24 22 NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROSPECTUS BUSINESS New Zealand Diploma in Business Level 6 OVERVIEW COURSE DURATION Two Academic Years The aim of this diploma is to provide students with a broad base of business knowledge and skills in general areas such as accounting, law, communications or economics. This qualification also provides the opportunity to specialise in areas such as accounting, marketing or human resource management. ENTRY CRITERIA Academic Entry Criteria: Students less than 20 years old must have: A minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level one or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework; and Fifty credits at level two with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level two or above in English or Te Reo Māori; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be achieved from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards or equivalent of both of the above. English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or successful completion of NZSE s English Language Test. COURSE STRUCTURE To achieve the award of New Zealand Diploma In Business Level 6 students must pass a total of 240 credits, including: A minimum of 120 credits at Level 5; A minimum of 80 credits at Level 6; 120 credits from the Core Prescriptions; and 120 credits from the Elective List. International students must be enrolled full time and attend classes for 20 hours per week, as per New Zealand Immigration requirements. This will help develop rational and appropriate solutions in order to successfully work in the business sector of Aotearoa/New Zealand. 30 28 NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROSPECTUS DESIGN Diploma in Design (Advanced) Level 6 OVERVIEW COURSE DURATION Two Academic Years This course will help students gain a new perspective on their own abilities and creativity, and also prepare them thoroughly for entry into NZSE s Diploma in Design (Level 7). The first year of this program includes a graphic design and communication studio, drawing, design principles and colour theory, applied graphics and imaging, graphic and multimedia studio, computing for design, 21st century design and culture and the study of design research interactive systems. Year two of the programme covers the study of print media and graphic design, visual communication and imaging, online and offline multimedia environments, sustainable design, graphics for products and spaces, integrated visual systems, digital media and design, and design and its subculture. The program also covers understanding of a graphic designer s role in history, society and research. It explores the issues of culture, economics and social implications of graphic design solutions. ENTRY CRITERIA Academic Entry Criteria: Achieved NCEA Level 2 or equivalent Portfolio requirements for all design & animation applicants: Students must demonstrate the necessary ability and attitude to cope with a two year Level 6 programme, through the presentation of a portfolio of their work - six to eight representative samples of recent creative work that reflects the range of the student s creative skills and potential. These can be any media, e.g. digital images, paintings, drawings, sketches and/or workbooks. A 500-word essay outlining relevant background, experience, and interests as well as career goals must also be submitted. Students may be interviewed by the tutor if necessary. Discretionary Entrance: All applicants for discretionary entrance will be considered on a case-by-case basis. English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or successful completion of NZSE s English Language Test. It will enhance the knowledge and applied design skills of participants to the level of an independent practitioner. This will also enable participants to deepen their understanding of the social context and theoretical underpinnings of design solutions. Students will explore the fundamentals of animation and the creative process. It will equip students with the skills to use industry-standard applications such as Autodesk and Adobe software. As they progress in the programme, students will advance their skills in applications such as Autodesk Maya from pre-production design to postproduction. Proof of your English ability. This could be recent IELTS or TOEFL test results or evidence that your medium of instruction has been English. You can also sit an English language test at NZSE. An English translation of your academic records, from your highest level of study. If you are already studying in New Zealand, a copy of your most recent progress report. Details of any relevant work experience you would like us to consider, though this is not necessary. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED When you are accepted into a programme, we will send the following documents: Offer of Place (including accommodation guarantee).
