2 PROGRAMME OVERVIEW The IMI Luzern MBA is an intensive three semester, hospitality-focused MBA, offering four different pathways of study. In addition to the ten core modules you can choose to specialise in either Swiss Hotel Operations, Sustainable Hotel and Tourism, Social Media Marketing or Luxury Brands and Services. The first semester is a 22 week intensive residential programme taught on campus in Kastanienbaum, Luzern. The second semester is a 22 week professional practice where you may opt to work in a hospitality business either in Switzerland or abroad allowing you to develop your professional skills. The type of placements are dependent on previous experience and language skills. If you have considerable work experience already you may be entitled to move directly to semester 3. During your time in the industry you will be expected to complete a written assignment. The final semester, also, is for your Dissertation or Field Consulting Project. This is the nonresidential part of the programme but you will be assigned a tutor who will guide you through concept, planning and execution. If you are not able to commit to the full MBA programme you have two options: Postgraduate Certificate Programme You can choose to take the Postgraduate Certificate Programme which is awarded to students successfully completing term 1 of semester 1. This must be a combination of mandatory and pathway units. Postgraduate Diploma Programme The second option is the Postgraduate Diploma Programme which is awarded to students successfully completing all of semester 1. As with all IMI programmes our Career and Internship Services Department will source industry opportunities related to your pathway and provide you with information and advice on job applications after graduation. Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma Programmes validated by YOUR PROFILE You should already hold a first degree or equivalent qualification in a related or unrelated field awarded by a recognised institution. The Registrar will also consider applications from students who have a combination of qualifications and experience that demonstrate to the Programme Leader that the required intellectual and communication skills are met. If your first language is not English you will be expected to provide evidence of an English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0. WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE? This programme prepares you to be a future industry leader. You will learn how management has developed in its relationship to hospitality and have an in-depth understanding of international business and the services industry. You will gain confidence through your academic and practical training in areas such as marketing, finance, strategy, e-commerce and human resources management. Your educational experience at IMI will prepare you to excel in your chosen sector, whether in general business or in the hospitality, tourism, retail and events industries.
