Life Drawing and Drawing Skills Digital Inking Rough to Clean Character Development, Model Sheets, Turn Around, Hand Gestures, Head Gestures, Expressions, Props and backgrounds Storyboaing Principles of Animation including Basic Animation, Character Animation and Lip syncing Compile and present portfolios of work This course will ground your knowledge on the principals of animation with a view to Fine Art techniques. You will learn how to apply the techniques successfully to characters and inanimate objects. These skills will allow you to have a better understanding of form and movement, and also supply you with the correct tools to give your animation soul, attitude and solid performance. You will achieve this by learning how to give character weight, balance, pose, line of action, timing and animation that is believable and through the understanding of colour, composition and light. The course will supply you with the necessary nuts and bolts in the art of animation, that in turn will give you the final grounding required as an animator. Showreel Creation Image Manipulation,Editing, Sound Production Modelling Texturing Lighting Rendering Intro to Dynamics Intro to Particles Intro into Technical Animation The course is extremely comprehensive, with a focus on matching practical skill with theoretical knowledge. All the major aspects of the D work flow are covered which will give the learner a thorough understanding of the most widely used applications and the ability to use them in a production environment, with the critical thinking to apply their unique. As these applications are extensive, learners are expected to be committed to learning and not averse to doing extra homework. We teach various applications in oer to maximize our learner s Employability. The more software packages mastered, the greater the skill set the learner will have in applying their creative talent. This is a follow on year from the 1st Year 2D animation skills and anyone from another institute that has completed 2D animation. The skills here are concentrated on creating environments and understanding how lighting and texturing work in a D application. Autodesk DS Max is used for the 2nd year.

4 Animation Visual Effects and Fine Art Autodesk Certified Course Year Character Animation and Post Production 4 11 February May July September 201 VFX and Animation Lecturer Garth Mc Intosh 19 April June September December 201 R46,750 (201) Masters in D Animation Autodesk Certified Instructor (Maya) 09h00 to 1500 D Character Animation Course: The aim of the year is to hone the skills learned over the last 2 years and apply the animation to D characters and environment and modelling skills to the background and character creation. Maya UI and Modelling tools Character Modelling Rigging Tracking Lighting and Rendering Compositing Team work Dynamics The year is also a chance for each student to start to find their own strengths. Half way through the year there is a team project with requires a team attitude and a trust among fellow students to create a short film. The skills that were introduced in the 2nd year are now built on and extended. New technologies are introduced and a much higher level of technical and or artistic expertise is required. As these applications are extensive and as with the 1st and 2nd years, learners are expected to be committed to learning and not averse to doing extra work. Each finished piece must be polished and to the highest standa, always with a view to creating a showreel at the end of the course. This is the students passport into employment. This is a follow on year from the 2nd Year Introduction to Adobe production and D environments. The skills in this year are focused on character animation and compositing, using D and post production software. Autodesk Maya is used for the year.

5 Animation Visual Effects and Fine Art 4th Year Character Animation and Post Production 4 11 February May July September 201 Python Lecturer is to be appointed Each student will also receive a mentor depending on their industry or career path they decide to follow. The core staff from 1st 2nd and year will take on the mentorship. 19 April June September December 201 R46,750 (201) 14h00 to 1700 Final Year Course: The aim of the 4th year is to develop your skills ready for employment and beyond. Thesis project planning Python Programming Thesis project practical Internship Show reel Although a number of artists may be worried about the Python Programming element of the 4th year, we believe that it will be beneficial and essential to all future employment in the 2D and D Industries. The ability to streamline your own work flow and create your own tools to quicken the pace, while maximizing quality is essential to get a head of the curve. This course is open to students who have graduated from other institutions or have been employed previously and are looking to refine their talent and build new skills. The course is being registered with the department of higher education and as a requirement an Internship must be undertaken in oer to complete the study. CFAD has undergone a huge consultation with industry experts and organizations to make sure the course is of the highest quality and provides the skills they require and demand. This is a follow on year from the Year and is open to any student who has completed a year course and is looking to improve their skills. The thesis is constructed to allow the student time to fully investigate and research a particular career path. Any software can be used for the 4th year study.

It is extremely comprehensive, and all the major aspects of the software are covered on a basic level. This will give the learner a thorough understanding of the application as a whole. As these software packages are such a large applications, self study is required in oer to further the student s knowledge. Intermediate and Advanced courses can be arranged on request. Dr Nanda Soobben has developed the CFAD into a modern thriving art school where through a system of mentorship students can transform their creativity into marketable skills. CFAD offers an Integrated Fine Art, Animation and Graphic Design Diploma at the Durban campus and has recently come to Cape Town and acquired the Touchvision Training School. The Cape Town campus is an Autodesk Certified Training Centre and the program is focused on animation and fine art.
