5 Beste zwemliefhebber, De provincie Antwerpen gelooft sterk in de voorbeeldfunctie van sport. Want sporten is meer dan een werkwoord. Het brengt mensen bij elkaar, maakt energie vrij, zorgt voor beweging en focust op waarden als fair play, respect en teambuilding. Dit is sport in zijn meest pure vorm, sport waar de provincie Antwerpen voluit voor wil gaan. Dag na dag. Daarom willen we als provinciebestuur kansen geven aan iedereen die wil sporten en dit in de meest kwalitatieve omstandigheden: jongeren, senioren, personen met een handicap, kansarmen, enz Met het Europees Kampioenschap Zwemmen krijgen we een prachtig topsportevenement te zien in onze provincie. Want ook topsport heeft een voorbeeldfunctie. Jongeren krijgen de kans om toppers van eigen bodem te ontmoeten: Kimberley Buys, Fanny Lecluyse, Kim Janssen Via dit EK Zwemmen kunnen jongeren genieten van pure topsport en krijgen ze misschien wel de kriebels om zelf ook de stap te zetten naar een zwemclub of een andere sport. En daar draait het om, want de jongeren van vandaag zijn onze toekomst en wie weet ook onze Antwerpse topsporters van morgen. Als gouverneur van de provincie Antwerpen en als gedeputeerde voor sport zijn wij ontzettend trots dat u vandaag kunt kennismaken met het Europees Kampioenschap Zwemmen in ons prachtige Sportpaleis. Wij wensen de organisatoren een succesvol evenement, de zwemmers een mooie sportieve prestatie en de toeschouwers een boeiend schouwspel. Voilà le sport sous sa forme la plus pure, le sport que la province d Anvers souhaite pleinement promouvoir. Jour après jour. C est la raison pour laquelle notre administration provinciale veut offrir des chances à tous ceux qui souhaitent pratiquer un sport et ceci sans aucune discrimination : les jeunes, les seniors, les personnes atteintes d un handicap, les personnes défavorisées, etc En accueillant les «Championnats d Europe de natation», notre province se propose de vous offrir un événement sportif dont la renommée n est plus à faire. Car le sport de haut niveau remplit également une fonction d exemple. Les jeunes se verront offrir l opportunité de rencontrer des summums sportifs de chez nous : Kimberley Buys, Fanny Lecluyse, Kim Janssen Grâce aux «Championnats d Europe de natation», les jeunes seront peut-être incités à franchir le pas vers un club de natation ou un autre sport. Et c est bien là l essence même de notre démarche, car les jeunes d aujourd hui sont notre avenir et, qui sait, nos sportifs anversois de haut niveau de demain. En tant que gouverneur de la province d Anvers et en tant que député en charge des sports pour la province d Anvers, nous avons la très grande fierté de vous permettre de découvrir les «Championnats d Europe de natation» dans notre splendide Palais des Sports. Nous souhaitons une semaine très réussie aux organisateurs, une belle performance sportive aux nageurs et un spectacle passionnant aux spectateurs. 6 Voorwoord EK zwemmen Is sport de belangrijkste bijzaak in het leven? Denken we aan de vele uren training en de minutieuze voorbereiding van de atleten, dan zijn we geneigd om ja te antwoorden. Tijdens de vele sportevenementen in Antwerpen zien we ook de supporters samen met hun sporthelden opgaan in de spanning van de wedstrijd. Deze ambiance is een troef voor Antwerpen. De mensen dragen de sfeer mee wanneer ze daarna de stad in wandelen. In afwachting van 2013, waarin Antwerpen de titel van Europese Sporthoofdstad mag dragen, zijn wij zeer trots om in 2012 een zwemhoofdstad te zijn. Wij kijken reikhalzend uit naar het EK voor senioren in mei en het EJK voor junioren in juli. Het EK zwemmen vindt plaats in het Antwerpse Sportpaleis, dat voor deze gelegenheid omgetoverd wordt tot een zwemtempel. Het EK zwemmen is één van de circa 70 grote sportevenementen die de stad jaarlijks ondersteunt. Samen met de organisatie van het EK zwemmen doen we er alles aan om het u naar uw zin te maken. We willen de initiatiefnemers dan ook graag nog eens extra bedanken voor hun inzet. We zijn blij dat onze sportstad in 2012 het decor is voor dit sfeervol tornooi en we hopen dat deelnemers én supporters achteraf kunnen terugblikken op dagen vol sportieve emoties. If we think of athletes many hours of training and meticulous preparation, then we are inclined to answer yes. During the many sporting events in Antwerp, we also see supporters immersing themselves in the tension of competition along with their sporting heroes. This ambience is an asset for Antwerp. People carry it with them when strolling round the city afterwards. In anticipation of 2013, when Antwerp will bear the title of European Capital of Sport, we are extremely proud to be a capital of swimming in We are eagerly looking forward to the Seniors European Championships in May and the Juniors European Youth Championships in July. The European Swimming Championships will be held in Antwerp s Sportpaleis, which is being transformed into a temple of swimming for the occasion. The European Swimming Championships is one of the 70 or so major sporting events supported by the city each year. Together with the organisation of the European Swimming Championships, we are doing all we can to make it to your liking. We would therefore like to thank the sponsors once again for their efforts.
