Tosin has a breadth of perspectives of working at UWS. He started as a technical officer in February 2010 and he has been promoted to Engineering and Facility Manager at School of Computing Engineering and Mathematics. Tosin s desire to contribute to staff wellbeing is evident. He volunteered to serve in the UWS Central and Penrith, Work Health and Safety committees. He is doing a good job in the committee. Tosin is a comprehensible and autonomous thinker, who listens well, ask logical questions, exercise equality and strive to do what's right for staff, students and the University as an establishment. Tosin has the open mentality and neutrality necessary to perform all of the functions of a UWS board member. MURRAY AUSTIN B App Science (Clinical Laboratory), MBA I joined UWS in 2008 as School Manager for the School of Natural Sciences and am currently the Technical Operations Coordinator for the School of Science and Health, based at Hawkesbury. This role includes oversight of a range of functions for the School including Animal Care and Ethics, Workplace Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Quality Systems, Engagement and Student Recruitment. My career includes more than 25 years of management roles in scientific and educational organizations. I started this career as a Pathology Scientist and fairly quickly moved into leadership roles I have extensive management experience in organizations ranging from tiny rural laboratories through to a large, highly complex medical, research and educational institutions. I Chair the Hawkesbury WHS Committee and am a member of the UWS Central WHS Committee. I have contributed to some major UWS projects including the Education Infrastructure Fund project that led to the re-development of large parts of Hawkesbury campus with new Science Laboratories, the Solar Research Facility and the facilities that support the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment. I am proudly an Alumni of UWS, having completed a Masters of Business Administration here and have lived in Western Sydney for over 50 years. I have experience applicable to a role on the Board as I have sat on numerous State and Commonwealth committees and working parties and currently am a member of the NSW Health Pathology Board, advising the NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research. As an outcome focused person I believe that the key to success in any role is first and foremost personal integrity and hard work. I believe that organizational success requires 1

quality decision making and good strategic planning. This is predicated on effective and considered communication. JENNY PURCELL Jenny commenced with UWS in 1995 through a temporary agency, employed as Personal Assistant to a Head of School on the Hawkesbury campus, securing the role as a UWS staff member in Jenny moved to the Academic Registrar s portfolio in 2001 as a Timetable Officer. GLENN COOPER Commencing at Hawkesbury campus as a Security Officer 20 years ago I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunities to work my way into a position now as a Senior Manager of Campus Safety and Security. I have worked extremely hard with both Senior Management and our team to ensure the safety of staff, students and visitors, as well as the protection of the University s assets. One area where Campus Safety and Security has succeeded is the overall service we provided to the University community. A prime example of this direction is the work I have carried out to ensure UWS is equipped to effectively manage issues impacting on the safety of our students and staff. I continuously strive to contribute further to the UWS community by providing strong leadership and personal experience, and believe I have a unique perspective gained through regular contact with a wide range of staff and students across the University, and being privy to their varied concerns and views. I seek election to the Board of Trustees because I am eager to see the University continue to grow and prosper, and if elected will work tirelessly to 2

ensure the continued development and success of the University, bringing to the role a solid general staff perspective. I am a proud member of the CSPU and have represented my unit in negotiating with the University Senior Management in working through situations that have had outcomes that have been a win for both the University and our staff. If empowered with the trust of the University community, I will work tirelessly to promote and assist the Board to make designs that improve our overall strategic outlook and in doing so, make UWS a better place to study, work and reside. RORY WARREN Rory has a long standing connection and commitment to the University of Western Sydney (UWS) with experience as both a student and professional staff member. Having graduated from UWS with a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance), Rory has worked in strategic roles in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and Office of Engagement, Strategy and Quality. Rory has worked successfully in Australia and internationally beginning with a career in corporate banking with National Australia Bank and roles in private equity, venture capital and private banking in Japan and Singapore. This domestic and international work experience provides a breadth of experience and insight which can only aid strong representation on the Board of Trustees (BOT). Along with his undergraduate degree from UWS, Rory holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as well as Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (now known as the Financial Services Institute of Australia - FINSIA). With even stronger challenges to be faced from further domestic and international competition, having experienced life as a student in both Australia and overseas will assist in the role on the BOT. With strong roots in Western Sydney and the work and educational experience and credentials outlined above, Rory has the skills, knowledge and experiences to provide a valuable contribution to the strategic, policy setting and oversight of UWS to enable the University to face the challenges ahead. Vote 1- Rory Warren NOEL BURGESS I am employed as a full time Technical Officer for the Music program within the School of Humanities and Communication Arts on Kingswood campus. I commenced my employment with UWS as a casual academic and have been working in a general staff position since In my role as technical staff, I interface directly with undergraduate/post-graduate students, academic staff and university wide units. This nexus of student cohort and working bodies, places me in a unique position to have a diverse perspective of UWS core business of education and research. My role requires a good understanding of student requirements and processes, as well as the ability to positively engage with larger operational units and policies. 3

I strive for a strong sense of collegiality and work consistently to improve both the student and fellow staff experience where possible. As a member of the Kingswood Campus Life Committee, I understand the role of consulting committees within an executive framework and the positive effect they can have. I am also a member of CPSU. In addition to my employment at UWS I am a current PhD candidate in my field of Music and Communication Arts; an invited founding member of the Katoomba Rotary Club community funding endorsement committee - Building Inclusive Communities (BIC); Treasurer of the Management Committee for the Woodford Academy (c.1834), a National Trust property; and a father of 2. It is my belief in the positive role of consultative committees and boards, my interaction between students, academics and operational units and my local community experience, which motivates me to nominate as General Staff Member for the Board of Trustees. I will contribute a broad understanding of the general staff perspective to the forward strategic planning of the University without an executive agenda. RICHARD MARTINO My name is Richard Martino and I have been walking the halls of UWS for almost twenty years, first starting as a student in the mid 90 s, and then as a staff member since Consequently, UWS is a huge part of my life and I feel a real commitment to its mission, particularly having grown up and lived in Western Sydney. I believe that a university experience is extremely important to the members of our community, having experienced firsthand the way in which it can shape your values and provide you with opportunities. For this reason I was involved in student representation in the late 90 s, and was elected as the President of the Student Union and undergraduate member of the Board of Trustees where I played a key role providing a student voice in University decision making. Some of the key issues which I advocated for during this period included: Democratic and inclusive decision making processes with a focus on staff and students Student to teaching ratios A University culture which embraces equity groups Affordable and accessible education for all; and Adequate resources and services for staff and students Given the recent change in Federal leadership, and the changing higher education policy environment, we need strong representation on the Board to ensure that the core values and mission of UWS are not lost, and that the key stakeholders of staff and students play a central role in decision making. ROBERT DANIELS I have been a professional staff member with UWS since July 2007 and as such have been employed in the capacity of the Purchasing & Assets Supervisor. During this time I have had the opportunity to work with and for some very talented individuals within the UWS family. My active memberships include being a member of The Australian Universities Procurement Network and a standing member of The Australian Universities Procurement Network Sustainability committee. 4

My decision to nominate for the General staff Member position on the Board of Trustees is driven by a desire to give back to the organisation and my firm belief that my input will be in the best interests of all UWS staff members. UWS is a dynamic environment and I believe that with my optimism and desire to progress we will be able to achieve a flexible and equitable work environment for Academics and General Staff. On a personal note I am married with 4 children and have resided in the local area (Emu Plains) for the past 30 years and I am a Penrith Panther supporter. STEVE MARSH Steve is the School Manager, School of Science and Health and has been with the University for over 2 years. Steve previously worked with UWS from , as a Business Development Manager. Steve has substantial experience in the public and private sector, having held a number of senior positions including, CEO/Executive Director of a Registered Training Organisation, providing employment and education opportunities for people with a disadvantage or disability, and migrants and refugees, particularly with non English speaking backgrounds. He has held the position of Divisional Manager Infrastructure of a large regional city council, where he was part of the council s executive management team and responsible for the council s road network, stormwater networks, and for flood mitigation management. Steve was a regional/state manager with Red Cross where he worked on the early development of Red Cross College. Steve has run his own consulting business working with a number of Universities and local councils across a broad range of activities including international offshore education, business reviews of commercial activities and research centres, and business, financial and operational improvement projects. He has held company secretary roles with several UWS entities and undertaken the Australian Institute of Company Director s course. Steve has a strong belief in the focus and direction of the University particularly around providing engaged learning opportunities, being at the forefront of world class research and maintaining organisational and financial strength. Steve has a passion for empowering people, and is equally as passionate about providing education opportunities for all. Steve s spare time is spent sports coaching and volunteering. He has coached at the NSW Institute of Sport, Football NSW, and several Greater Western Sydney soccer clubs. Steve is presently volunteering his time as an active member of an executive committee and coach for a local GWS gridiron club. 5
