1 Manager Corporate Planning and Reporting Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) As the Government s global business agency, Trade and Investment Queensland promotes Queensland as an international supplier of choice and a preferred investment destination. Trade and Investment Queensland is the government s global business agency, assisting exporters to break into emerging and established markets, and promoting Queensland as the preferred place for an Asia-Pacific headquarters or to partner with existing businesses. Trade and Investment Queensland works with partner agencies, industry organisations and international allies to promote better access to overseas markets, to identify investment opportunities and to encourage decision makers to pursue a relationship with Queensland companies. Across the globe, you ll find Trade and Investment Queensland s representatives in 14 locations, and across the state, you ll find TIQ representatives in major regional centres. Purpose of the role As a TIQ Director, you are accountable for the delivery of your team s objectives in line with the TIQ Business Plan and you will contribute to the strategic direction of TIQ and its business outcomes. Your role will be to manage and lead the Corporate Planning and Reporting area within TIQ to develop and implement high level strategic policy, planning and corporate performance measures that will ensure resources are managed innovatively, effectively, efficiently and economically. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and forming part of the operational management of TIQ, you will plan, program manage and report on projects and activities that lead to successful outcomes and contribute to TIQ s key performance indicators. You will be required to develop and sustain key relationships with clients and other stakeholders in Queensland industries, Queensland Government, overseas and regional offices, with overseas investors, and with internal TIQ employees. You will represent TIQ at external forums and in inter-government negotiations. As the Manager, you will manage, coach and lead a competent team and inspire them with your commitment, drive, skills, and professionalism. You will use your extensive business knowledge of trade and investment in a global context to deliver key deliverables in line with TIQ s business priorities. You will identify innovative solutions to complex issues and have a focus on continuously improving your team s processes and procedures Your team is required to analyse and provide policy high level advice on major trade policy issues relevant to Queensland. Your team also assists in the coordination of activities across Trade and Investment, such as reporting, business plans, development of policies and strategy, and is responsible for the reporting of trade outcomes.

You will be expected to effectively and proactively promote the role of TIQ and to facilitate meetings and negotiations with stakeholders from industry and international and state governments.

3 What the Manager Corporate Planning and Reporting does Accountability Lead and manage your team Plan, monitor and manage programs and projects Major Activities Coach, mentor and support your team to create a high performing, flexible and supportive working environment. Understand and apply best practice financial and human resource management to create an effective team. Exemplify personal drive and integrity and take full accountability for delivering results. Ensure that the processes and practices of your operations are developed, maintained, and continuously improved. Proactively contribute to the strategic direction of TIQ Working with the Senior Management and Business area Lead and provide direction in successfully implementing complex and strategic export and investment projects based on sound policy analysis of economic and trade information and the planning, monitoring and reporting of trade outcomes required by Trade and Investment Queensland. Lead and manage the provision of high-level analysis and advice on major existing and emerging issues and provide recommendations to support the Queensland Government s trade and investment targets and objectives. Board Responsibility Appropriateness of Business Plan Interpreting results in light of the plan identifying themes and advising presenting issues for consideration to Senior Management Preparing TIQ input to the estimates process Development of CRM that is relevant to TIQ and interpreting the results Review Trends happening Internationally and identify opportunities for TIQ Oversight of TIQ s response to RTIs Review relevant press and media articles for articles that relate to TIQ s strategic direction and ensure that relevant articles are provided to relevant staff Allocate and manage financial and human resources, to ensure effective outcomes in line with TIQ s business priorities. Identify and implement business improvement initiatives and innovative approaches to increase the effectiveness of your team and instil a culture of continuous improvement. Identify international market opportunities and address issues which may have an impact on Queensland industry and business. Undertake a range of activities to assist in identifying significant emerging issues and opportunities impacting on Queensland s trade and investment performance and the competitiveness of the State s business environment and assist in developing policies, strategies and other initiatives to respond to them.

4 Develop and sustain productive stakeholder relationships External and internal communications Identify and develop stakeholder relationships with new clients and client representative groups. Sustain and improve current stakeholder relationships with industry and business clients, client representative groups, government agencies, overseas and regional TIQ representatives and investors. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with TIQ colleagues. Facilitate meetings and workshops with industry and government stakeholders. Provide written and verbal advice and communications to highlevel stakeholders including clients and client representative groups, Ministers, the TIQ Board and TIQ senior management. Represent TIQ at export and investment events when required. Provide expert advice and timely information to TIQ Senior Management and the TIQ Board and strategic partners and external clients about trade policies. Other duties Ensure that activities adhere to the relevant legislative and organisational guidelines and procedures and are delivered within the intent of TIQ s Code of Conduct. Promote team health, safety and wellbeing, maintain and promote WHS standards, and supervise employees to ensure they comply with WHS regulations. Be able to work with overseas offices and adjust working methods and times to cultural and political differences and geographical time zones. Ensure that knowledge in Trade and Investment stays current and comprehensive. Additional information A probationary period of three (3) months will apply to external appointees. The recommended applicant will be required to disclose any serious disciplinary action taken against them in public sector employment. Criminal history checks may be undertaken on preferred applicant(s). A criminal conviction or charge will not automatically exclude an applicant from consideration for appointment with TIQ. If information is received that may exclude you from further consideration, you will be given an opportunity to respond and your response will be taken into account in the evaluation process. All newly-appointed employees are obliged to provide the Chief Executive with a disclosure of employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years.
