3 Year 10 and 11 Ambassadors Program The GriffithBUSINESS Ambassadors Program offers students their first real look at university life, whilst providing them with a greater understanding of the business world through working with academics from Griffith University. The program provides up to ten exceptional students from each school, who are currently studying a Business subject in Years 10 or 11, with the opportunity to become a Business Ambassador for their school. Students meet up to three times per year at Griffith University to participate in a series of activities that are designed to develop students knowledge on the nominated topic and introduce them to a university environment. A Griffith University lecturer will host the day. They will conduct a presentation on the topic, followed by a panel question and answer session to determine are you smarter than an academic. Students will then complete an interactive activity based on the day s topic working with students from other schools to generate a response to the task. As part of the day, students are also provided with information about degrees at Griffith University that align with the topic, as well as other information about their tertiary study options. The program aims to develop real life enterprise skills, business knowledge and understanding through connecting Secondary Schools with Griffith University. The Ambassadors Program provides a valuable educational setting, where learning is more relevant and real, and works to create partnerships between teachers, academics and students to better prepare our future workforce. 4 Year 12 Program Course selection The transition of secondary students into university study is becoming more complex and competitive. The GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program aims to help students make the transition from the supported framework of school, to the flexible and autonomous nature of tertiary studies. The goal of this program is to encourage business students to further studies at Griffith University including studies in business through linking the curriculum of schools and universities; fostering positive relationships between students, teachers and academic staff; and exposing high school students to the tertiary environment. The GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program allows students to choose from three strands: Business Management Commerce Tourism, Hotel, Event and Sport Management When selecting a strand, students are encouraged to give consideration to the program of tertiary study that they eventually want to undertake. For example Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of International Business, Bachelor of Government and International Relations, Bachelor of Asian Studies, Bachelor of International Tourism and Hotel Management (visit griffith.edu.au/ degreefinder for a full list of programs). Business Management The Business Management strand provides an introduction to the theories and practices of management and organisations. The three-day program recognises that in the 21st century organisations exist in a global environment where the emphasis is on knowledge of how to plan, lead and control, the ability to learn, to change and to innovate. This strand will provide students with the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of management in international business, marketing, and managing and motivating people. Commerce The Commerce strand provides an opportunity to examine the elements of Accounting, Economics, Finance and Financial Planning. These areas of study are often the basis for decision-making in any organisation. The three-day program will provide students with a basic level of knowledge of modern financial and managerial accounting theory and practice so students can understand how accounting data is used to help make decisions in organisations. It will further develop their skills in analysing and interpreting financial statements and expose them to the examination of current economic issues, such as climate change. Tourism, Hotel, Event and Sport Management The Tourism, Hotel, Event and Sport Management strand provides exposure to a number of constantly evolving industries as it identifies the key management concepts related to each area in its title. The three-day program showcases the business side of tourism/hotel, event operations and sporting organisations, whilst offering an insight into the interactions between sport sectors, leadership in hospitality and event impacts on tourism. This strand will provide students with the chance to expand their knowledge from the traditional areas of business and enable them to think outside the box when it comes to careers that stem from the core idea of management.

Successful GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program students who meet the necessary achievement levels will be given the option to apply for a Guaranteed Offer of Entry into the Griffith Business School degree or double degree of their choice. Program eligibility Students are eligible to apply for participation in the GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program if: they are studying a relevant Business or History subject including Accounting, Business Communication and Technologies, Business Organisation and Management, Economics, Hospitality (Authority), Senior SOSE, Modern History or Legal Studies they are about to enter Year 12 they are a high achieving student (that is achieving at a VHA or HA level in at least one subject listed above) they are achieving 4 Sound Achievement (SA) in English, English Extension, or English for ESL Learners (not English Communication or Functional English) they have the support of their school principal, business teacher and a parent and/or caregiver. Course availability Some Year 12 Programs may have restricted numbers due to the learning experiences that are being made available therefore it is advisable to submit an application as early as possible. Applications will not be accepted unless original and relevant documentation has been sighted.

6 Professional Development for Teachers Topics Workshops on offer can include: Secondary School Teachers are recognised for the vital role they play in students transition to tertiary studies. The GriffithBUSINESS program offers a series of Professional Development workshops to support you in providing a curriculum which is up-to-date with current practice. Professional Development opportunities have been developed that have significant linkages between the Queensland High School curriculum offered by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and the tertiary environment. A selection of topics from the following list will be available to teachers each year. Accounting Economics Event Management Finance and Financial Planning Hotel Management International Relations International Business Tourism Management Sport Management Politics and Public Policy Marketing Human Resource Management. Each topic offered relates to the relevant syllabus document (Business Communication and Technologies, Business Organisation and Management, Economics, Hospitality (Authority), Senior SOSE, Modern History or Legal Studies) produced by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Please note, not all topics are available at every campus and teachers are encouraged attend any campus that suits. For key dates, visit griffith.edu.au/business-school-programs. Benefits A certificate of participation will provide you with the necessary evidence of your Professional Development and you will have the opportunity to attend a short networking session following the topic presentation. 7 Bursary As a means of recognising South-East Queensland s Year 12 students commitment to pursuing tertiary education, Griffith Business School offers the GriffithBUSINESS Transition Bursary. Programs of study To be eligible, students may choose any single or double undergraduate degree offered by Griffith Business School. Students who opt for a double degree with another faculty may be eligible for a partial payment. Value and conditions Each bursary is valued at $2,500 (paid once, at or after census date in Semester 1, 2017). Number of bursaries One bursary is available to each School that participates in the GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program (with a minimum of five students participating), in addition to participating in either the GriffithBUSINESS Ambassadors Program or GriffithBUSINESS Professional Development for Teachers. Eligibility To be eligible for this bursary, students must: be applying for university study for the first time be applying for full-time admission to a Griffith Business School undergraduate program commencing in Semester 1, 2017* be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a Humanitarian Visa. submit a personal statement explaining how the scholarship will benefit them (maximum of one A4 page) not be in receipt of any other scholarship funding submit a short CV outlining any recent academic achievements and/or work history (if applicable) submit a letter of recommendation from their principal, guidance officer or teacher have successfully completed the 2016 GriffithBUSINESS Year 12 Program. * Please note that students who defer their studies will no longer be eligible for this bursary. Selection criteria Candidates will be ranked on the basis of outstanding performance in curriculum and extra-curricular related activities, and school recommendation.
