1 VPN User Guide For Mac System Requirements Operating System: Mac OSX. Internet Browser: Safari (Firefox and Google Chrome are NOT currently supported). Disclaimer Your computer must have the system requirements listed above to use the VPN access software. Help Desk x48889 ( ) can give suggestions on how to add needed components to your home computer; however, these may impact other applications you currently have installed. Please understand that we cannot be responsible for your home computer. If Help Desk is unable to help you set up the VPN, you may wish to have computer looked at and upgraded by a Mac specialist. Documentation on how to connect is provided, but support beyond that is not.

2 Setting Up the VPN on a Mac 1. If you have already installed Java, go to step 5, otherwise navigate to and verify you have the latest version of java by clicking on the Do I have Java Link: 2. Click on the Verify Java Version button: 3. You may be prompted to run a plug-in: 4. Make sure you have at least Version 7 Update 45 installed. If the current version is not installed then download and install the latest version. 5. If you have already installed Citrix, go to step 9, otherwise navigate to Click on the Downloads link at the top of the screen: 6. On the next page, select the option for Citrix Receiver (ICA): 7. Click on the download button that shows up on the next page: 8. You will be prompted to agree to the software license, and then download the Citrix installation file. Once downloaded, run the file, and follow the on screen prompts to install the software. If prompted to enter in a work or server address, go ahead and press Cancel on that window.

3 9. Type in the following address into the address bar: The following website should come up: If you would like to create a bookmark of the site, now is the time to do so. 10. Once you are on the Juniper SSL VPN website, you will be prompted for a username. For the username, enter in the same username you use for your or computer logon (example: jsmith). If you are on a personal Mac, leave the option for: This is a private computer selected and then press the Submit button. 11. A security window may come up, and if it does, press on the Trust button: 12. Continue past any other prompts you may receive:

4 13. The system will then send you a four digit code through either , text message, or a phone call depending on how your account is set up. The default set up is to send to your . In that case, we recommend you open a new Safari window or tab to access the . You will then enter the code on the following screen: 14. At this point, you may be prompted to log in with a password. This is the same password that you would use to log into your or your network account: 15. If everything goes well, you should then see the Juniper Networks home page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the section for Client Application Sessions. Click on the Start button to the right of Junos Pulse: 16. If a security prompt comes up, make sure to click on the Trust button: 17. On the next screen, you may be prompted to install the setup package. Click the here option to downlaod:

5 18. Open the file that is downloaded: JuniperSetupClientInstaller.dmg and double click on the installer package: JuniperSetupClientInstaller.mpkg. If you do not see the following error message, skip down to set up 20. If you do see the error message, continue at the next step: 19. On the Apple Menu at the top left of your Mac screen, select System Preferences and then open Security & Privacy. At the bottom of the General section, press the lock button to unlock the screen, and then select the Anywhere option: 20. Click on the Allow From Anywhere button and then close out the System Preferences. Go back to the JuniperSetupClientInstaller.dmg file we downloaded earlier, and run the JuniperSetupClientInstaller.mpkg. 21. Open Safari, click on the Safari option at the top left of your Mac screen, and then click on Preferences: 22. When the next window opens, select the Security tab at the top. Make sure that the option for Block pop-up windows is unchecked, and that the rest of the checkboxes are checked:

6 23. Click on the Manage Website Settings button and then select the Java option on the left: 24. To the left will be listed one or two entries for the VPN. Select the Allow button next to each one and then select the Run in Unsafe Mode. If prompted, press on the Trust button: 25. Once the software has installed, press on the here option to install the Juniper software: 26. If a security prompt comes up, click on the Continue option, and then click on Run: 27. On the next window, click on the Always option: 28. Junos Pulse will begin installing now. If prompted for a username and password, this would be the same username and password that you use to log into your Mac. Once the installation is completed, you may have a Junos Pulse window open on you screen, which you can close. It will continue to run in the backgroud. 29. If you would like to connect to your PC here at the Medical Center, you will need to scroll down to page 7 and follow the instructions there under the section titled Setting Up Remote Desktop Connection. If you need to set up access to clinical applications, continue with step 25 below.

7 30. Next, back on the Juniper page you will want to click on the Citrix nfuse link at the top of the screen: 31. You will be prompted to log in and you can use your or computer username/password: 32. Once logged in, you will be able to select your application from the list: 33. To open LLEAP, you can click on the green frog icon: 34. If the following error comes up, you can disregard it and click on Ok. LLEAP should still load properly: 35. If you would like to open PowerChart, you can still do this from the LLEMR link on the Juniper Bookmark page:

8 Setting Up Remote Desktop Connection 1. Make sure you have logged into the VPN and started the Junos Pulse client. 2. Open a new Safari window or tab and navigate to Scroll down to the bottom of the page, locate the Remote Desktop for Mac section and click on Download : 3. Once the App Store opens, click on the Free option: 4. Click the Install App to install the software: 5. Once the download has completed, navigate to the Applications folder via Launchpad or through the Macintosh HD: 6. Double click on the Microsoft Remote Desktop application. Once the application opens, click on the New button at the top:

9 7. In the Connection Name field, enter your computer s hostname. This is usually something like: MC0xxxxx. Also enter the same hostname in the PC Name field: 8. Once completed, close the Edit Remote Desktops window, and you should now see your computer listed under the My Desktops section. Double click on the computer s host name to start the connection: 9. If a Verify Certificate window comes up, click on Continue : 10. If successful, a prompt will come up asking you to log into your computer here at work. Log in like you would normally do when on site.

10 Troubleshooting FAQ ERROR: If you are seeing this you need to do one of the following This error may be caused by several different things: 1. You have not installed the Citrix ICA client. Refer to step 8 on page You are using an incompatible browser. Refer to the system requirements on page The Citrix ICA client needs to be re-installed. First go to your System folder and then your Preferences folder. Delete the Citrix ICA Client folder and then delete the Citrix client file that you originally downloaded. Once deleted, re-install Citrix by doing step 8 on page 4. ERROR: Random Java Errors. A Java error comes up when trying to open any clinical applications: 1. The Java client needs to be re-installed. Delete the Java folder on your Mac and then go to: and install the latest version. ERROR: Please wait... This error comes up when launching the Network Connect: 1. If there is a message on screen stating that the plugin is inactive, click the link that lets you activate the plugin. 2. If there is a message on screen stating that the plugin is disabled, open up the preferences within Safari. Click on the Security tab at the top and make sure that the settings except for Block pop-up windows are checked in: 3. If there is a message on screen stating that the plugin is out of date, navigate to and install the latest client. Once installed, make sure to reboot the Mac and then run the VPN again. Without the reboot, Safari will not recognize that the plugin was updated.
